Hm, this might be touchy topic and might even piss some people off. But I'm pretty sure everyone has played games before that most people seem to like, yet you thought they absolutely sucked.

Mine would be:
Tomb Raider 2013 - 96% overwhelmingly positive. Finished the game from start to finish 2 times to get all achievements, and didn't enjoy at all. Repetitive gameplay consisting mostly of shoot-out segments and QTE. Close to zero variety topped by dumbed down puzzles.

Bioshock Infinite - I wouldn't say it was bad, but it felt quite repetitive, despite the intriguing story. What do you think worth finishing?

And since the other topic is getting less attention, the GA link from that topic is here:

Bioshock Infinite. Great visual design. Shitty gameplay and nonsense story with more plot holes than enemies.

Dark Souls 2. Movement in such a skill based game is shit. I cant even navigate through that tutorial area without falling off several times.

Borderlands Series

kek, I could agree with Gears of War, Halo, or even Witcher... But borderlands? Awesome, fresh style of graphics (some other games look similiar as well), storyline... good, but devs forgot about it and didn't even explain much, every part had too short main quest and without DLC's it would not be the same, cause story is also explained in them, I don't like that but it is... Physics, it was good, I can't say bad about them. Second wind was a disappointment in Border 1, in 2 it was better, but only Pre-Sequel made it right... Maybe it is overrated, but it is good, and solid. When I haven't played it, and only watched gameplays I was like meh, but when I got in game I fell in love :)

Team Fortress, Counter-Strike, Dota and every other moba - these games are bad but their communities are the worst happened in the world of video games. I tried to enjoy them but I find out that there are basically 3 groups of people who play these games: elites, kids and retards. Definitelly not recommended for casual players.
Also sports games like bastketball and football, never understood why these games are so popular when you can go outside and play. Unless you are paralyzed or don't have any limbs.

I'm the exact opposite. I loved the atmosphere and the gameplay but the story was a bit boring. The setting was nice, but the story was lacking.

Fallout New Vegas. 24 hours in and still nothing interesting or believable happened. Fallout 3 wasn't all that great either.

The Walking Dead: Season Two and pretty much every Telltale game after that.

I remember when Telltale made actual games, games which required thinking, games which had puzzles to them, games in which you had to explore, collect items and figure out what to do with them. I always found that satisfying. Now, they relocated to this whole choice gimmick, and it does not work whatsoever. For one, the choices do not mean jack shit. You think they do at first, but then you go into a second playthrough and you realize just how much your choices do not matter. There are no significant changes to the story, nor does it feel like you're building up a relationship with the characters, the choices are there just so you can call these experiences "interactive".

And speaking of meaningless things, the fact that you can move around in the game is even more pointless. Because of the complete and utter lack of puzzles, the hardest thing you're gonna do in these types of games is point and click at things. And while that's the genre's name, to make the genre more interesting, you gotta think. Hence puzzles. Telltale's latest games completely forget the meaning of puzzles,

TWD S2 presents you with an extremely difficult challenge where you have to find something flammable in order to heat up the campfire. There's a fucking huge log literally to the right of the campfire, and the companion we have with us just wandered off to get herself killed because she went to go look for wood. I just realized that happens. God damn it.

And often, what Telltale games like to do, is throw you into a huge choice-infested cutscene, then they give you control for only a few tiny seconds. There's even a objective at the top telling you what to do, for example "Sneak up to the abandoned car." Holding the W key for a few seconds is all you gotta do in order to achieve that goal. And that kind of thing happens way too often. But..why do that? What's the point? A baby could find that a challenge.

It's a movie. That's all it is, and including all this interaction just prolongs the experience for completely unecessary reasons. We play games to have fun. I don't have fun holding down one key for a few seconds until the next cutscene happens. I don't have fun moving towards this direction and clicking on this object, only to find out my character has absolutely nothing to say about it and just looks at it like it's the most depressing thing ever.

Now, granted, i do enjoy the story. Except the story of TWD S2, it hurts just how bad the writing for that game is. But Tales From the Borderlands, The Wolf Among Us, TWD S1, i do like the way those games are presented, but the interaction is so forced in, i'd rather have it not be called a game, and just have it be a movie of some sort, made through a game engine. Then i wouldn't bitch as much.

Phew. Sorry about the huge post, i just assumed if i just said "This game sucks.", people would wanna question why do i think that. And well, i do have a lot to say about the topic.

Nice, you wrote the explanation so I didnt have to :) I for one also like story, but only story doesnt equal a good game, or for that even being called a game, interactive story would be a better name for it. IF Telltale would put in some actual challanging puzzles or gameplay mechanics in their productions I would probably be all over them. QTE's and as your example campfire challange is not enough for me. I still have to give them some love for the writing in many of their games. But back that up with something more, else they are better of making short films.

They are great 1-time stories. But they lack gameplay to make me want to return to them - easier and faster to just run youtube :P

Playing witcher without reading books is kinda stupid for me... I hope you did read any of them, it's not necessary, but surely helps ingame :) Every title based on book should have something like ''first read the book'' lock :D I don't mean you gotta know every comma in book and every single guy or town, but as myself I would prefer to first read books :P Same with Metro.

I once played it tournament style against a bunch of friends (2 vs 2)on playstation, that was hilarious and fun. Since that I can't play it on single mode or online. Imho it has it strength as a party game with lots of friends, drinks and snacks.

Most FPS games post-Halo, I feel like it ruined the genre. Specifically every FPS game made for both console and PC. Still some decent PC-only FPS games being made.

Starcraft 2, DOTA 2, most MOBAs in general.

I like competitive games, but after some time it becomes boring, no way to stop that. Except you have any benefits from it, in CSGO you can drop skins and sell for other games, but that's not a big deal, only if you drop a Dragon Lore from the match or case, then it is :D
