Instead of talking about points overhauls, how about, I don't know, not reopening registration? Maybe actually moderating fake giveaways? - I know of several that are currently active (but I can't link to them because witch hunts). Getting rid of Humble Bundles and Dirt 3 from the pull-down list because, uh, too many people have points on the site where you're supposed to have points? Something?
The probability of winning a game whether you're conservative with your points or not is no different - one person will always win. An invite to this site isn't a guarantee that you'll win something and it's not a guarantee, no matter how much kijib would love to strongarm them into doing so, that winners will supply the site with a giveaway. And if that was the case, well fuck me silly, I'll go back to the Steam Trading thread on SA because I thought this site was something different.

I've seen giveaways disappear, is cg the only one with this ability? Why?

I don't like this. Cost to entry should be based on the price of a giveaway, and most wanted games should cost even more points to enter.
With this "10 entries per day system" we'll have Skyrim giveaways with thousands of entries and almost zero chance to win, because, well, you'll lose nothing when you enter such Skyrim giveaway. But what if you must pay 300p in current point system to enter a single Skyrim giveaway, and you'll have to ignore any other giveways, and you'll not be able to restore these 300p in 24 hours? So, you can sacrifice the ability to enter X giveaways, but instead you'll get the higher chance to win Skyrim.
Sorry if my English is not fluent, but I think its still understandable.

Rather than changing the basis of everything (points to entries) wouldn't it be easier (and more fluid) to make the point generation more dynamic? What I mean by that is simply this. Allow the point generation to be affected by site activity, much as the new invite costs are.
If there are already 6 copies of Dirt 3 on the site, they don't need to generate as many points. And if one user is trying to run up a lot of giveaways ending about the same time, just to generate points, why not automatically combine them into one giveaway?
If being the 407th person in a week to put up a humble bundle generates no points, and the 26th copy of Dirt 3 only one point, then it gives people an incentive to space out those gifts. Obviously people are still entering them, so there is a reason to put them up. But if people are looking to generate any points, they'll have to space out those giveaways, or be more creative in their choices of giveaways.
Your big point, kijib, is getting people to be more selective with their entries, right? Well, the easiest way to cause that selectivity is to increase the overall selection. Then people start using their (now more slowly gained during the sale weeks just by the dynamic system) points, rather than having them pile up while the site is flooded with duplicate pointfarming entries.

i'm glad, CG doesn't like this idea, because it's nonsense. it does not solve a single problem, but it makes new problems
also i see CG telling, it's impossible to freely look through people's inventories anymore. But is there a way to trade games already? isn't it possible to start a trade procedure and show, you have a game without actually finishing a trade?

God forbid he just posts a comment in the other thread. I deal with this shit on reddit. I'd rather not have to do it here.

I'd be curious to know if kijib is the same attention whore with an urbandictionary article to his name. Certainly sounds like our man.

Can't say I like this as it eliminates giving out serial keys, and it makes people have to buy the game before they gift it.

I still hate kijib, regardless of that fact, I still like points better.

Alright everyone! Listen Up!
After posting many wild ideas for fixing the points system, Cult has shown me perhaps the best way is to remove the points method all together.
What could possibly prevent people entering for games they aren't really interested in or people who make fake giveaways to generate points?
I'm glad you asked.
This is what we came up with
Everyone gets 10 entries
Each of these 10 entries can be used to enter for a single giveaway
Once a giveaway ends, that entry begins to regenerate and will be back after eaxactly 24 hours. Which means noone can enter for games that won't end until a week later and then withdraw it so they get more entries than anyone else
Preventing Fakers
"If someone makes an one day long giveaway and then someone else notice that giveaway and makes a 12 hours fake giveaway for a high rated game. I have one entry point and I use it on the fake one. How is this new system going to solve the problem with fakers?" -Sharkinu
Answer: "If the person doesn't have it in their giftable inventory, they can't make a giveaway." -Cult
Also Only Mods can invite new people!
And:
Mods will have to do what they're doing now with fakers but people who enter should wise up and see what games the person already has who is gifting and their previous feedback. Each fake giveaway would be a ban so someone who makes a free game only count or just humble bundle only account can be easily spotted because the guy who has 156 games won't be the account trying to fake people out even though it will get him banned
What does this mean?
Everyone has 10 entries that they can spend on games. You have to be a lot more selective for the games you really want.
Some of you may whine and say that means you can't enter for that many games.
Well I have news for you.
TOO BAD
The way the site is growing it is getting harder and harder to win because of so many entries.
Don't forget this site is a priveliege and you never earned anything to be here for a chance to benefit from the genrousity of gifters.
You may now begin applauding
