Nice! And thanks for the train :)
BTW this reminded me that I should probably check if my desktop PC actually died or not a couple of weeks ago when it turned off on its own all of a sudden and then refused to turn on again, I just didn't felt like dealing with it then so I've been exclusively using my laptop and telling myself I'd do it later but I actually need to make sure if the thing finally gave up after a decade of use or it's something I can work around and bring it back to life.

you totally should! modern hardware actually has a lot of protections in place so it's likely that something felt in danger and just preventatively shut everything down. It might then need to cool down a little before booting up again. Worst case scenario it might be just a busted PSU and everthing else is still fine and dandy. In all likelyhood if anything died it's just a one component. It's only a matter of finding out which one it is which can be difficult if you don't have a couple of PCs worth of spare parts lying around and hoping it's something cheap and easy to repair/replace. I'll cross my fingers for it coming back to life :)

My suspicion is that it was the GPU that went kaput, after all it had a bit of a freak out the last time I updated the drivers to the point that I had to downgrade them to an slightly older version or it wouldn't recognize the second monitor. The thing is that if it is the GPU I only have one spare, and it's a decade old GT 620 that has spent many years in a box, so not only is it ancient and crappy but also it's a bit of a gamble if it still works :P
If it's the PSU I have at least two spares laying around somewhere. I'll probably get around to it this weekend, it's just that I really haven't felt in the mood to deal with any sort of problem recently.
Thanks for the encouragement and suggestions :)

and don't forget to play the less demanding games as well. Can recommend Void Bastards, if you like that type of games

Oh, no doubt I will. Less damanding, indie games are consistanly way better gaming experiences for me than big budget blockbuster AAAs. Anyway with mere 24 hours in a day and most of it occupied by work and maintaining a functioning body most of my gaming is dedicated to Path of Exile and wahtever PAGYWOSG throws at me each month 😅 Man, how I wish days'd 30hrs long so I could game more...

Have no idea how from being someone who had Thermaltake mid tower case packing everything inside himself and making at least one update of the system every six months I became the person who have no idea how everything works or should work :D
So no useful info in my comment :) Just happy you have a a mostly brand new PC. Hope the day I will need to do same is very, very far from me. For "heavy" work tasks I have machines in office, but most of the work tasks can be done on a toaster (like HONOR MagicBook 14).
And for gaming... my ultimate gaming rig is: Steam Deck :D

Hi!
Due to recent events I had to do some changes to my gaming rig and in the process of deliberate decision making i.e. I've had a few beers, it's a middle of the night and I've spent past few hoyrs browsing online shops and second hand marketplaces I've arrived at building a mostly brand new PC!
The long and short of it is I had to replace my mobo. Since keeping my old-ass socket CPU was pain in the male donkey I also went with a new one. The new CPU + mobo combo required new RAM I'm DDR5 now, baby!!!. And at the last minute I realised my PSU wouldn't handle the new board. I threw 1TB NVMe SSD to the mix just for the sake of it and now here I am. My wallet bleeds...
Anywho now it's your chances to partake in this frabjous day as I've prepared a little Ouroboros train just to hurt my sad wallet a little more! And there's a little extra Dredge for my 💙
On top of that I'd like to ask y'all what'd you recommend I go ahead and blast on my new creation to fully enjoy all the glorious FPS I can achieve now? You don't have to limit your suggestions to my library, I might as well run my financial situation to the ground since I'm at it...
A second question concerns my performance. I haven't done much testing yet, but I did run Heaven a couple o' times results below and I have my concerns. 1. is the drop in min FPS of 11 in the first run something bad? 2. What about the termals? the CPU stays mostly under 70C but the GPU went right over 80 in both tests, spending most time around 85 with fans going all crazy and occasionally going almost to 90C with fans hitting I believe 100%. Is this expected bahaviour? NGL it's my first time with that class of hardware. I've built a bunch of PCs in the past but typically more low-end and or old systems. This is like the closest to "current-gen" as I've ever been. Is there any way to get those temps and fan speeds down?
man, making trains is so tedious...
If nothing went wrong train's lvl2+ running till the end of the month.
