Hi!
Due to recent events I had to do some changes to my gaming rig and in the process of deliberate decision making i.e. I've had a few beers, it's a middle of the night and I've spent past few hoyrs browsing online shops and second hand marketplaces I've arrived at building a mostly brand new PC!
The long and short of it is I had to replace my mobo. Since keeping my old-ass socket CPU was pain in the male donkey I also went with a new one. The new CPU + mobo combo required new RAM I'm DDR5 now, baby!!!. And at the last minute I realised my PSU wouldn't handle the new board. I threw 1TB NVMe SSD to the mix just for the sake of it and now here I am. My wallet bleeds...
Anywho now it's your chances to partake in this frabjous day as I've prepared a little Ouroboros train just to hurt my sad wallet a little more! And there's a little extra Dredge for my 💙
On top of that I'd like to ask y'all what'd you recommend I go ahead and blast on my new creation to fully enjoy all the glorious FPS I can achieve now? You don't have to limit your suggestions to my library, I might as well run my financial situation to the ground since I'm at it...
A second question concerns my performance. I haven't done much testing yet, but I did run Heaven a couple o' times results below and I have my concerns. 1. is the drop in min FPS of 11 in the first run something bad? 2. What about the termals? the CPU stays mostly under 70C but the GPU went right over 80 in both tests, spending most time around 85 with fans going all crazy and occasionally going almost to 90C with fans hitting I believe 100%. Is this expected bahaviour? NGL it's my first time with that class of hardware. I've built a bunch of PCs in the past but typically more low-end and or old systems. This is like the closest to "current-gen" as I've ever been. Is there any way to get those temps and fan speeds down?

man, making trains is so tedious...
If nothing went wrong train's lvl2+ running till the end of the month.

Congrats on the new PC.I haven't played CyberPunk 2077 but think you might give it a go and check the FPS. OR I dunno how to say this,Do the traditional thing/custom.Ask yourself:"Can it run Crysis(Remastered with good FPS)?" and then get your answer. The choice is yours.I dunno about your 4GB GPU being able to handle all the Glamour n Beauty of the Ultimate Requirements Benchmark (Crysis) but just came up in my mind.

I'm not too worried about the VRAM situation as I'm still running 1440x900p panel and it's with the higher resolutions that memory matters the most besides I used to happily run a 2GB card with no issues so moving up to 8GB is like a lightyears long leap!
HEY! What do you mean 4GB?! I mean, I see it says 4095MB in the benchmarks, but that's supposed to be an 8GB card! The box says 8GB. Task manager says it's 8GB! WTF is going on here?

I might as well run my financial situation to the ground since I'm at it...

Well, OK then. Why not pick up a copy of Escape from Tarkov, and you will of course choose the Edge of Darkness Edition for the brilliant running-financial-situations-into-the-ground-facilitating price of € 109,99.
It will not only make your wallet bleed, it will make your brain bleed too, because that price is for a game that has been in BETA since 2017 and is not ready still. It is gooooooooooood, it gets better (slowly), and more content is poured in at irregular intervals, but still nowhere near going gold yet.
Oh and yes; The learning curve is a wall (a high wall), the time needed to spend to get anywhere is massive, and you will die. A lot. A LOT a lot.

Have fun and good luck.
Unless of course if we meet in-game, then I wish you all kinds of horrible bad luck, and weapon jams, and no ammo, and severe bleeds, and broken limbs, and no stamina, and stutters, and poor armor, and slight bleeds, and poor ammo, and netcode packet loss, and of course death of hunger and thirst too. For starters.

no pre-orders

Doesn't sound like my type of game tho. Besides 1st it's not on steam. Yuck. Stay away. 2nd I would totally be up to toss such money at a game and I did, at least similar, but it'd had to be a collectors edition with some bad-ass physical stuff thrown in, like figurines and whatnot. Either way, I already have a game that consumes most of my life and I don't think I could fit another one in...

But you canh buy soooooooooo much nerdy stuff from their merch shop!!! Expensive, shiny stuff!!!
That way you can sit alone at home all days of the week suffering from being murdered on the screen and therfore not progressing at all, while suffering from all the BETA-issues the game still contends with, while suffering from a major case of the nerdies, sitting there in your game-merch military outfit (that likely won't fit good either). It's a win-win-win!

And this is absolutely not a pre-order. It's paying extreme sums of your hard-earned money to be a beta tester of an unreleased game (something which usually is free).
HUUUUUGE difference. Massive. Almost not same at all. Almost....

I hate that I know directly what you mean here, I wish I could take your words and shove them right back up your arse in defence of my beloved (in spite of everything) Tarkov.
But, alas, I cannot.

Every syllable makes sense, and is true down to the most contended meanings of the word. Damn.

Really great train and a fun ride, cheers! I hope your PC build goes fine and you have alot of fun pushing your new gaming boundaries, for me it's always the best part of putting together a new build, pushing games you previously had trouble with to their limits with gleeful abandon 😄....before realising there's still plenty of games that can whoop your arse 🤣.

Are you using Windows 8? (NT 6.2)

nope. Win 10 here. No idea what that means, but apparently there's something sus about these benchmarks...

NT 6.2 is Windows 8, like Windows 7 was NT 6.1 and so on until windows 10 which is NT 10.

Windows NT Releases

I asked because your CPU is very new and it would perform a lot worse on Windows 8, so that could be related with your performance problem.

That Unigine Benchmark is not detecting neither your hardware nor your OS well:

Nice system! I was curious to see how my old geezer cpu might compare so I ran the same bench and it blows mine away by about 7600 score. 😞 I am running on higher res of 1080p though, I don't know if that gets factored in or not.

I'm on a i7 3930k with a GTX 1660 Super and 32Gb quad channel ddr3. Perhaps I'll end up skipping over the whole ddr4 generation like you did the next time I upgrade...

85C for GPU is normal. Higher is not so. Because it is an old GPU a new paste and thermal padding are recommended

I'd say 85 C is on the higher end under load playing games. As OP is sporting a 2070 a re-paste and eventual change of thermal pads might be in order. Careful though, use only thermal pads with the exact same thickness as the original ones as contact to GPU core might be compromised otherwise.
To monitor temps and other measurements I recommend HWiNFO64.
For comparison my 3080 is in the low 70's when playing Dead Space Remastered or The Last Of Us in 4K. 85 C is only reached when running Furmark with 365 Watts consumed by GPU. But not all graphics card are created equal. A huge impact on temps is dependent on the GPU cooler obviously. A 4 slot design like mine generates lower temps than a 2 slot generally.

yeah, new paste might be in order, but I probably wouldn't fiddle with pads. too much hassle sourcing correct ones and then I'd be worried I'd mess something up anyway 😅 I'm using Afterburner w/ RTSS. No idea if that matters...

my 3080 is in the low 70's when playing

see, now that's reasonable. If I was running under 80 I wouldn't bat an eye...

It shouldn't data being data. I'm using HWiNFO as you get the whole shebang of measurements you could ever wish for.

I'd say 85C is normal for spikes, not for constant load...

I see why the upgrade, but a cheaper 12th gen cpu with used 3070 or 3080 would be much better fps. Most AAA games are gpu bound anyway
