This is it guys. I just learned this. They are to charge 50 dollars for the game see 50 Euro's for Season Pass. So all who pay the game $60 or $70 must pay another extra almost the entire game price 50 USD/EUR just for Season Pass DLC.

"THANKS" EA. Worst of all GREEDY , Companies that force people only Multiplayer games and ASK big 1 month Salary for their games 1 time pay for the game then second time pay for the ability to play Online .... SHAME!

Announcing DLC content before game is even out is like telling people
" Pay us 60 USD/EUR for for the game, we will give you half of it, now pay 50USD/EUR more and we will give you the other half"

I wouldn't have complained if companies wait for the game to be released , let the people say what they want added, take their feedback and then announce DLC or Season Passes and stuff like that.
But announcing DLC pre-release and it costing almost the game's price is disgusting and Greedy act not only from EA but from other companies as well.

Unfortunately it's not just with EA... but many other companies. They are robbing people to pay for game then pay again for "DLC" stuff.

most dlc's are bad. i guess we all agree on that. you seem to think i will buy the season pass. well, i already explained that i won't buy it. i will buy the base game, and nothing else. because the base game is the main content. the season pass is not half the game. it's just some additional stuff, and i don't need it. the base game will already be many, many hours of fun. and if you have any interest in the game (i assume you do, since you are so upset about the SP), you should think about whether you really need a few extra maps to enjoy the game. maybe you can just have fun with the base game and forget the rest, like me.

The reason they do this is because people PAY FOR IT.
Yes, people will happily pay double the price of a regular game regardless of content aslong as its hyped enough.

To cap it all off its priced using a physical product scheme - and I'm willing to bet that the game is digital distributed primarily through their own Origin platform. Even if you get a box copy it'll simply send you to Origin to download the game through there or something along those lines.
Which means that they get to cut roughly 30~50% off the costs since all those digital sales do not involve physical production costs, logistics fees or retailer involvement.

Meaning that they essentially get to make a ton of extra cash. Granted its a Star Wars title, so the licence fees are probably pretty hefty.
But if the season pass is indeed required to play online then we're talking about a game that flatout costs $100~120?
And probably delivers less content than your average $20 title these days does.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's not required to play online obviously. The OP is just exaggerating. But since this is a $60 multiplayer only game, they could perfectly include the extra content in the base game and make the $60 price tag a bit more justifiable.

lol, please don't believe the OP. of course you don't need to buy anything but the base game in order to play online. the season pass is just some expansion packs (probably a few maps, and maybe one or two new modes...). you get the full online experience with the base game.

Looking at Battlefield - the premium isn't required. However if you don't have the maps that come with the premium access you don't get access to half the game modes (or more) that everyone is playing.

Not paying for a "season pass" means you do infact lose access to the majority of the game as very few people that are active are playing the "base game" - most active players will have gotten the DLC/premium/season pass as they want the newer content.
Think on that... Just because you can "play online" - does not mean that there will be people playing the old content still as new content releases.

Simply put, you're paying $60 for a game with a hefty expiration date. And they're asking you to pay another $60 to "extend" that date to keep it "fresh".

I didn't play the old Star Wars Battlefront a lot but wasn't the heart of the game a mode where you have 2 fleets, board a ship from your hangar have a space battle and decimate the enemy fleet until you manage to board the enemy hangar and then ground battle for controll points start ? From what I've heard this time ships are power-up pickups and you can turn into Darth Vader or Obi Wan and other heroes with power-ups. I have to admit I didn't follow the game closely and I'm sure the Space Battle mode will be included in the full version but doesn't sound promising to me.

I may be Mistaken if we can't play online without season pass.
But $50 just for the sake to play other modes/maps is too much anyway.
I remember Star Wars Battlefront 2 when we get it we got all the modes/maps in the game at once. Now to get all the maps/modes you need to pay double the price....

Like some people said as long as there are supporters the more the greedy EA/DICE or any other company doing shit like this will be.

I remember when Battlefront 2 came out, the average cost to produce a game was between 6 and 10 million dollars.
10 years later, that cost has increased to between 60 and 100 million.

That there's one of the main reason why AAA games that sell "only" 3.5 million copies in the first month are considered a business disappointment, or why you end up paying more for less nowadays.
Revenue has to come from somewhere, because if it doesn't come in fast enough to cover your costs in a decent timeframe, you're not staying in business.

If that was all people did, skyrim would still have paid mods and deus ex would still have that horrendous preorder scheme.

A lot of people who would otherwise buy the game, won't not because they think it's bad value for money but because of all the net infamy it has. While that may seem unfair, a lot of people who otherwise WOULDN'T buy the game, only buy it because of all the hype. The counter-hype this type of thread creates is important for balance.

If game companies and fanboys could constantly hype up games while the detractors just shut up, all games would seem disproportionately lauded, which wouldn't really be fair or good for the consumer.

Damn and I thought that living in this "right, traditional, catholic, intollerant" country is one-way ticket to hell. It looks like I was mistaken.

And I don't like these corporations policies at all. But it's enought to NOT buy these games. Like I'd like to play in Dragon Age: Inquisition, but $60 for base game and maybe another $60 for pack of DLCs is too much for me. So I'm waiting for "right" price for me. Sure, most of people already played it and I see tons of memes from it on the internet that I don't understand. But who cares about it?

And EVERY major game company works like this - EA, Ubi, 2K, Square Enix (they announced that they will have normal microtransaction in single player Tomb Raider. I just hope it won't take ridiculous amount of time without paying extra to craft best weapons) and so on. Your post would be more reliable if it'd cover all these areas, not just one multiplayer game (which for very long time works like this - base game + season pass. But even so game is completely playable without paying extra for those few extra maps).

There's no way you will have to buy Season Pass to play online. It's gonna be the same as Battlefield games.

The basic game will come with like 6 maps, there will be DLCs for like $20 which will include like 4 maps.

And there will be Season Pass that will get you access to all DLCs for like $40.

You should first learn about those games before you start to flame.

This reallly sucks to be honest.

I've played a ton of the beta, and I really enjoyed it. I was looking forward to the 17th of next month when it fully comes out... then I read how much money they're extorting people to play through all the content. And now, I won't be playing it at all. Another good game ruined by EA's pricing. ..and companies wonder why people pirate games..

What sucks even more, is all the DLC and Season Pass (which won't have ALL the DLC in.. they never do) are likely already created and ready to be released a little after the game comes out. They're charging double the money for the same content that should be all released at the same time. And they get away with that crap because people still flock to it and buy the game, DLC and Season Pass.

You pay a AAA price for the main content. Which is plenty hours of fun I think.
If you need more you'll have to cough up the extra bucks.

If you liked the beta so much I dont understand why you dont just buy the base game.
And if you have put 100+ hours into it I wouldnt mind buying dlc. With that mount of hours its always nice to have some new maps to play and discover. I've paid more for games I played less.....

Friend. It's not the DLC problem here.
Companies Announce DLC pre-release. This is greedy.
Instead of releasing the game, Wait for people to post what they want to have added in the game, then take their feedback and do their wishes they announce DLC before game is even out and at the price of the game. This is like telling all " Fuck you, you are screwed we will give you half-game then pay extra for the other part"

Now tell me seriously Am I not right.
I really like it but ... these acts from companies are ruining everything .

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Exactly.

Where I live, the base game will be around £40 ($60), then the Season Pass will be another £40. The fact that I can preorder DLC before the game is even out is manic. DLC was created to add new content to an already released game. Now AAA game companies just use it to charge you for stuff that could easily have been in the base game (and would have if DLC was never a thing), but instead make you pay for it BEFORE THE BASE GAME IS EVEN RELEASED.

And the other problem is that this, I can promise, will not cover all the DLC released for this game. Within 6 months I can bet they'll release new DLC that isn't covered under the season pass. And that's be likely another $20.

I'm not paying $140+ for a full game. If people keep buying in this way (which they do and will) game companies will just keep boosting the amount of pre-release DLC, the amount of money the base and DLC game costs and will be happy to lower game quality because people still buy it.

people will always complain.

if they publish info about dlc early, people start complaining that they sell the game incomplete (which is not necessarily true).

if they wait until after release, people will scream "why the hell did you not tell us earlier, that we have to pay extra?! if i had known this before, i would not have bought the game!!"

honestly, a company like EA can't do anything to prevent internet rage. even if they do something nice, people will find a way to interpret it in a bad way somehow.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It isn't so much that they published information about the DLC early. By all means, do that! Get people hyped up for what's to come for the game.

That isn't what EA have done though. They're selling the DLC. Before the game has even been released. People shouldn't be preordering base games as it is (because you can never know the quality of a game until it has been released and fully reviewed), let alone DLC, that should honestly be either released with the base game (as it's clearly finished and ready to go already if they're already selling it pre-game launch) or wait until the games actually been out awhile.

DLC was created to add new content to a game. What they're doing is adding 'new' content to a game that hasn't been released yet. And will be available day of base-game release. That isn't DLC. That's selling off parts as 'extras'.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

i don't know on what facts you base your assumption that the dlc is finished and ready to go already. sure, for you it's "clearly" the fact, because they already sell it. that's just illogical. good example: you could already buy the Witcher 3 season pass, before the base game was released. well, and no one believes they already finished both dlc's at the point when the sales started. no one does that. they just finished the first one, and the second one will come next year. they even changed the release from first quarter to first half of 2016. that all really sounds like they didn't finish it yet, right? like they are still working on it. and no one has a problem believing that. but here comes EA, does the exact same thing (selling the dlc before release of the base game), and everybody automatically assumes they have all the dlc ready to go and all that prevents you from getting it is their evil plan to rip the game apart and sell it in pieces.

well, i hope you see the flaws in your* logic. the same action causes different assumptions, based on what company executes it. maybe EA doesn't sell you a half game. maybe they don't have all that extra content ready and wait for months and months to sell it, so it looks like they were still working on it. maybe the truth is much simpler - maybe they are really still working on it. don't get me wrong, both is possible, if you ask me. but whatever the case, you can't know.

*by that i don't necessarily mean you personally, but all "EA flamers". and i think you will agree that the vast majority of them don't think the worst, when CD Project sells a dlc. but they automatically do, when EA does it.

Comment has been collapsed.

I understand where you're coming from. But say it isn't ready yet.

Say that it isn't ready yet. Fair assumption. But same thing goes for the base game, since it isn't to be released until mid next month.

Why then, release the DLC on the first day of launch along with the base game? The Season Pass will be available to everyone who preordered it on day of release. That isn't DLC, that is a dismantlement of content and making it purchasable. That literally isn't what DLC was created for.

I know I won't change your mind here, and that's fine. It's just a shame that they're really asking people to pay so much for 'DLC', may it be first-day release DLC or not, and having people happily buy it and continue on a bad trend.

(and I'm not saying all this because it's EA. I dislike any company who uses first-day DLC to split a games content up for more cash. I'd have the same issues if it were any other company who had made this game)

Oh yes, youre right about companies being greedy. No doubt about that. They act like any other big business though.
The days of community feedback, customised servers and free extra content are long gone. They will listen to the community and use that for their NEXT game, if it's financially beneficial.

I stopped being mad after the x'th COD failure and buying premium for BF3 and BF4. I made a couple of mistakes and might be making another one for preordering Battlefront. Time will tell.
I'm not gonna ban a game or company. If I like a game I buy it.
