Omg, I've been waiting for soooo long for this to happen and this game is not even a bit overrated. Serves every cent for me. IMHO, sure.

If you're fan of Diablo series you'll buy it no matter , i find game quite addicting and i love it.

Played the beta, wasn't too grabbed by it. Never played any other Diablo, so I'm guessing I didn't get hooked because I wasn't getting a nostalgia vibe like many others were. It's an OK game, certainly not a bad one, yet not too amazing in my opinion either. I'd pay 30 bucks for it, no way in hell 60. I would wait before buying it if I were you. With Torchlight 2 and Path of Exile coming out, you may like those games more than D3. I played the PoE beta and had more fun in it than I did with D3 (and PoE will be free, which is a huge plus). Since you have yet to buy the game, I'd say hold off on buying the game until you've played PoE and Torchlight 2, cause D3 isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
Comment has been collapsed.
Just what the hell were you doing if you didn't try Diablo 1/2 ?
Comment has been collapsed.
PoE is boring as hell and torchlight 2 has no release date announced.
Comment has been collapsed.
You say that like Diablo 3 isn't boring ah hell either.

D3 is $60, Torchlight 2 is $20 and probably coming out soon. Yep.

The price of D3 will drop, you don't have to be the first one to complete it (and you won't be, too late lol). It might be better to just enjoy other things in the meantime. I haven't played it, but one thing is obvious from the reviews and opinions I read online... This game wouldn't be anywhere as popular if it wasn't for the fame Diablo saga (and Blizzard as whole) already had. It's definitely overhyped and some people will ridiculously defend everything about it saying how it's the best game ever, so I suggest reading some honest reviews instead. I'm sure it's not a bad game and it's worth giving it a try, but getting so emotional about it as some people do is just idiotic.

If I recall correctly, Starcraft 2 was discounted the following winter after it first came out. I'm sure you'll find deals for it eventually via Amazon and such as well. Amazon has been pretty hot with the sales as of late.

c) Err what?

Yeh, W3 was the shiznit
In regards to c) it was a big login issue when the game launched, fans flipped pancakes over it. Relevant picture

Oh... I actually liked Diablo 1 much more than Diablo 2. It had a better atmosphere, so creepy with fitting music. Diablo 2 felt like they took the soul of it all away. I don't hate any Diablo game though.

a: Actually, since I have a $3k rig I think I very well can.
b: Actually I never played Diablo 2. Also I was amped for D3 until I heard about always online.
c: I haven't played Diablo 3 either, except for the beta...
My grievances are that I think the always-online and RMAH are ugly. You may not have a problem with them. Me and many others do. We don't like Diablo 3. If asked about it we will say as much. Doesn't mean our opinion of it, or your opinion of it for that matter, is wrong.
Comment has been collapsed.
Good answer. We are all entitled to our own opinion. I have fun with the game, you might not, I'm not gonna force you to like it.
I gotta say though, when i wrote that, I didn't intend on making it a "serious" post.
May I ask what your issue with "always online" is?

Because I don't want to be dumped from a game if either my modem of my provider craps out, which actually happens often enough to me for this to be a concern.
Because I don't want lag when playing on my own. And neither when I play with my mates in my or one their own houses. And I got it when playing the beta so yeah.
Because I want to be able to play what I want, when I want. If Blizzard's servers go down, I'd be screwed. If I wanted to mod the game, I'd be screwed.
Because I'm sympathetic for those folks with laptops who wanted to play D3 on the go and don't want to pay extra for the privilege.
Because though I realize that being online can bring benefits, I don't see why they couldn't also implement a system where offline playthroughs simply couldn't interact with Battle.net. They already took their sweet time with the game and we were all ready to wait even longer if neccesary. It makes me wonder why they implemented this system, and then when I consider the RMAH I wonder if I should feel insulted.
Because I believe that when I buy a game I should be buying a product, not a service unless that game is primarily based on its online multiplayer. I don't think Diablo is primarily online multiplayer.
Basically because for reasons that don't apply to everyone.

They force us to be online and connected to battle.net There should be an option to play offline but not to be able with that toon go online, ever. If they won't allow us even this I'm not giving them my money. I often travel, play on my laptop or just go out with friends to play in pubs/outside where is no connection. And after all those years in development there is almost nothing new in the game, not worth my 60$. This is MY opinion.
Comment has been collapsed.
You haven't played the game. You can't know what's new or not.

Yes, huge changes indeed, plus content that wasn't available in the beta. They don't use the same build for the beta than for the finished version.

I played 4 hours straight with my friend today, had A LOT of fun. Probably wouldn't be so entertrained playing alone, but still its a very good game.
The "you need to be online to play" is kinda sad, yes, but its only a method to avoid hacking because of the Real Money Auction House AND you probably never go offline anyways. Sure, the lag sometimes sux, but I hardly had trouble with that. Some random spikes here and there but nothing to worry about.
The game mechanics are a little bit too simple and it lacks of customization, but when you get into the game, you see that there is a lot more to explore and find. Dyes, Gems, Blackmisthing, Customization of skills/runes/hotkeys and all. So there is a lot of possibilities.
It isnt a perfect game, but i'm having so much fun playing it with friends. Don't regret buying it.
And people saying "P2W hur dur IUASHFiujb fsakib asjibc axij zx" really don't know what they are talking about. I don't see that as an issue atm, I might be wrong but I think it isnt a problem.

I'd like to come back on the "you probably never go offline" part ;)
Thing is, 20% of US residents don't have an internet connection (as in: we won't make a profit if we dig cables, so enjoy your lack of connection).
In many parts of the world, France comes to mind (you'd think a developed country wouldn't have so much problems), you only get a good connection in the big cities - if you're even 200 kilometers outside, then may the gods of the Internetz help you.
Canada outlawed throttling just last year. Throttling is the act of reducing your available speed - you pay for 15 MB/s and you only get 2 MB/s for example. This was done by various ISPs when downloading files, for instance.
Russia is a special case. On one hand the game is certainly cheaper there (but they've got less purchasing power), on the other hand Internet can cost a LOT if you're outside of the western part (some places it's 60$ a day). I'm thinking those who'd buy Diablo 3 would be the Moscowites moving to the inner country - there's a booming natural resources excavating industry, and many people I recall get a job there for a little while (it ain't the best job in the world).
It's sad to think we can get a good satellite connection (that would be 3G) but we still can't offer a cabled connection to every person in the world.
Anyway. On launch day, the servers went down for several hours because there were too many people. Even those who played in singleplayer couldn't continue playing. And don't tell me it's not gonna happen again >:(.
All it takes is one careless employee or a power outage, and tada no more servers and no more Diablo 3.
Blizzard is hurting their own sales by making the game unavailable to way too many people who'd otherwise have the money to buy the game. You can be sure the first press release is gonna be about how pirates are hurting the sales, not their intrusive DRM. Then again, I think those without an internet connection are just gonna grab a DRM-free copy... ctrl+c, ctrl+v, cough cough.

Servers weren't down, login servers weren't able to process all the login attempts simultaneously. Authentication servers != game servers. I live in the middle of Syberia and even in rural areas here we get no-limit internet for a few thousand roubles max a month, not a day. Each day the percentage of people connected to the Internet grows and will continue to grow. Publishers sell games for gamers, chances are most of the gamers are already connected and there's nothing wrong with appealing to the biggest part of your audience. There always will be exceptions and with the release of big titles the amount of people noticing it grows and therefore the amount of loud minority exceptions grows as well.

I read a recent article on Cracked where the guy said even WoW, Starcraft II and Warcraft III were down - basically Battle.net as a whole. I think it started with some huge lagging, and then ended in a server crash. Which doesn't really change the fact that you need to be logged on 24/7 to play in singleplayer.
The 60$ a day bit, I'll be honest, I have no source but my, er, informer, is the person I trust the most. It's also several years old. Since you live there, would you know how much it costs in the far, far east?
Finally, 2011 numbers were 2 billion internet users. We're already 7 billions. Now of course not every person in the world can buy Diablo or an internet connection, but I've read about several people who would be interested but can't because they can't afford a connection (the rebuttal was that "if you can't buy an internet connection, then you can't buy Diablo 3" to which I reply that 60$ for a one-time payment is 20$ every month for 3 months... and I'm sure no decent connection costs less than 20$ per month).
Blizzard is effectively reducing the number of clients, and it's not gonna stop piracy. EA Games had this DRM on Dragon Age and Kingdoms of Amalur (38 Studios, which developed the game, has declared bankruptcy by the way). Ubisoft had it on the AC series but stopped - I think it's still on From Dust. They all have one thing in common: you can grab the games on ThePirateBay without any DRM.

No clue, but obviously not as high, unless we're talking above the polar circle far. And it's not done to combat piracy, it's done to combat cheating and to have a proper auction house.
Comment has been collapsed.
My proposal to combat cheating would have been to separate single player from multiplayer. But there's more than that; for example any of your battle.net friend can drop into your game without asking for your permission first... sometime's a man's gotta have his privacy ;)
Comment has been collapsed.
Unfortunately it's just not that simple. The problem there is that giving players an offline mode makes the online mode more vulnerable to cheating, even if the two are separate.
Diablo's online service runs much like an MMO. You play the game while constantly connected to Blizzard's servers; black boxes that do just about everything you see going on in the game world. It's impossible to play the game without the functionality provided by the server.
If you want users to be able to play without being connected to a Blizzard-run server, you'll essentially need to hand a copy of the server over to the users; so that they can run it locally. The problem with doing this is that the server is no longer a black box; anyone with the know-how can now see exactly what the server is doing and how it's doing it. If there's any vulnerabilities in the server's code or in the way it works (human error guarantees there will be), then they'll be significantly easier to find and exploit.
As for players joining games without permission, you have the option to turn that off in the game's settings.

I'm having some fun with diablo 3. Played it single and with some friends online. The game has changed a little bit and it is a little more friendly as you dont have to worry as much with talent points. This can be a major point of contention if you loved building unique builds from previous diablo games but it also kinda takes out the "oh crap my character is useless in hell because I spent my points on the wrong build". Try the starter edition, play it through a few times with all the classes and if you can sit back and say to yourself "I want more" then upgrade to the full game

I love Diablo even it's Diablo 3. I tried Beta and then I bought the game and play DH till lvl 40. I need to say this. DIABLO 3 IS FUCKING AWESOME. May be many fans hate D3 but to me , it's very interesting game since Diablo 2. I played D2 since 2001.
"Diablo III is a great game, but not the evolution for the series that we were expecting. Despite all of its complains, this Action-RPG is an amazing experience... especially on its online side." - This is the best reviews I think in my opinion about exactly Diablo 3 is.
I think u should buy it. The guest pass can only help u access the beginning of the game. The game is really beginning in nightmare. Believe me. Fucking Interesting and awesome. I really love combat of the game.
Sorry for my Bad english and some fun abuses. Lol I am in good mood because of D3.

This is a must-have game, especially if you plan to play coop with your friends. Even singleplayer is addictive like hell, I played it until 5 AM the first night :)
PLS disregard the the metacritics user score. Apparently teh internetz is full of a$$holes who call themselves "Diablo fans".
Comment has been collapsed.
Out of curiosity, how do you feel about being forced to stay connected to a remote server even when playing singleplayer?
Comment has been collapsed.
Obviously I can't answer for him, but as someone who played Diablo 2 for years, I consider D3 to be a primarily multiplayer game that also allows for solo play; almost like an MMO that lets you solo quest. I only ever played Diablo 2 on Battle.net, so for me Diablo 2 was also online-only.
I personally just find playing online to be more enjoyable, even when I'm playing alone. This is mostly due to the prevention of cheating, but also because the randomness of the game's item drops often gives you things you cant use, even if they're great items. Playing online means that random drops always have a use, because you can sell/trade them to another player. Cheat prevention then gives value to these items, as they're only created as the result of an investment of a player's time.
When players have a lot of value on their character, they're less likely to quit playing; giving the online-only multiplayer community a long lifespan. For instance, I logged onto Diablo 2 a few weeks ago during the evening to find that there were over 50,000 users online. In comparison, the most popular game being played right now on Steam (TF2) has 40,790 players.

Laggy single-player experience is not something I enjoy. Not being able to play my game when the Internet connection is acting up either. I played a little bit of Diablo II online and I hated it. To me it was either single-player (offline) and LAN. So basically what made this game good to me is what's now missing.
Comment has been collapsed.
Lucky for you, the popularity of the game will speed up the development of private servers (the game is built like an MMO, so it cant just be cracked). It may not be too long until you get your offline Diablo 3; and because Blizzard doesn't actually want your money, this is one of the few instances where I piracy can actually be considered justifiable.
Comment has been collapsed.
D3 doesn't lag. You can play with 600ms latency and not notice a thing, most of the stuff still is on your computer, I wasn't sure about that as well since I normally have 100-200ms but it's not like an MMO, clients don't actually wait for a server's answer, as long as it can communicate every few seconds it's golden.
Comment has been collapsed.
I know that during the beta weekend I did experience some lag. I'm sure part of it was the fine tuning of the servers but it also means that ifat any tme the servers are under heavy load, this is something that could still happen. Il probably pick up the game at some point in a bargain bin, but there's no way I'm giving them any money right now for the kind of crap they're putting out.
Comment has been collapsed.
Tell that to my brother. I've watched him play and he does lag, he lags like he is playing an MMO.

Actually, there are a few assholes calling themselves Diablo fans who will buy every crap that is fed to them without and call it GOTY even if it's not worth a penny. I'm statying away from this game and moving on to better ones. And this is from someone who owns every single offline Blizzard game and would have kept buying them if they continued to make quality products.

+1billion. Yes and yes. I tried the beta, I got a guest pass. This is not Diablo, I don't know what it is. I liked D1 and I loved D2, played probably countless hours of it. I played Warcraft 1-3, Starcraft, Starcraft 2 and some WoW. This however, I do not like. This game is not good.
Comment has been collapsed.
I disagree 100 percent with both of you. The game has issues, and I'm not a fan of the online DRM, some of the base game changes, and even the character space limit. Having said all that the game is STILL incredibly fun.
I suppose we're going into a "to each their own" scenarion, but calling the game bad because it doesn't meet your expectations or isn't just the way you like it isn't really fair. Just like the Metacritic user scores, I think a lot of the people dissapointed with the changes just cannot admit that the game itself is pretty damn good. It's not perfect, and I can understand people turned off by character stat changes, and the always online drm, and the RMAH, and any number of other things. But I truly don't think even the most jaded cynic would say the game itself is truly bad.
Comment has been collapsed.
Diablo 3 is good but at the same time it is a disappointment. The graphics should have been better but they look fine anyways. THe classes and their abilities are awesome and same with the general game play. The thing that was the biggest disappointment for me was the fact that they did a complete overhaul on how you get skills and stat points. Overall i would give d3 a 8/10 because the skill system bugs me since i was really into d2. I would say get it.
Comment has been collapsed.
I was a fan of 1 & 2. So far, I am enjoying D3. There are only a few games I pre-purchase and Blizzard's Diablo and Star Craft series are an insta-buy for me.
