30 FPS is about the edge of what we perceive as fluent or playable. 60 FPS is even better as it's twice the amount plus it also has to do with the Hz of your screen (google it, don't wanna do the math here). To be honest unless the game is old I basically play all my online games on the lowest possible detail level just so I can get more FPS.

Eh, you get used to it. It's a major reason why I only buy games when they are on sale as well. Also, there are some games on my computer that run really well for some reason, like Metro: Last Light, which I get above 25 fps on high at my laptops highest resolution (Even though Metro 2033 hardly ran at low at 800x600).

I used to care a lot about having 120hz and 125 fps on Quake 3 with OSP mod. But nowadays I am quite happy with my 27" led monitor and 60hz. Anything over 45~50 fps is good enough for me now. I can still see some "choppyness", but that really doesn't bother me for most games. Unless they are multiplayer fps type games :)
You can certainly do well enough with 30 fps on BF3 though. I used to get 30ish frames on that game, before I upgraded my gpu, and I could still get a decent kda, without any hard camping involved.

Since your question is about the effect on your gameplay and not on the game's appearance, then framerate isn't something for you to worry about overmuch. Human beings' reaction times don't get much faster than about a tenth of a second at best. As long as you're getting at least a steady 20 fps without lags or hiccoughs, then any delay should be small enough that your ability to react in time is still a much more significant factor than any delay in the display of new events in-game. Higher framerates will, of course, still appear smoother, more fluid, and generally prettier, although anything much higher than about 60 fps will yield diminishing returns.

I think human's eye can't see the difference above 60+fps. But there are games, where higher fps really matter. I play cod4 with 250 fps and it allows me to better control my aim, recoil, to jump higher, further etc. However, there in WarZ i got 20-30fps and it's kinda hard to play it in first person perspective, so I play in TPP and it's not so bad.

its ok to watch a movie with 24 frames per secont so a game with 35 is already better than an ordinary movie.

When I play shooters I normally have less than 35 fps, and fps sometimes goes down to 20, I have a question, seems a lot of ppl who have a good gaming PCs prefer having all in ULTRA in a game like Battlefield 3 with 40fps instead of having all on High-Medium but with 60fps.
So here my question: is really important to play at 60fps instead 40fps in game like Battlefield 3? and another for those who have 120hz monitors: it helps you a lot having over 100 fps in shooters or all this thing about playing more than 60fps is bullshit and you won't play better even if game looks smoother?
I don't know nothing about good gaming, in my PC games run very bad I get over 25fps having all down including resolution, but hopefully soon I will buy a new gaming PC :D
