I like walking simulators.
PS: activating or not - are you aware of the horrible DLC pricing policy? basically if at any point in time you decide to get them, you'll be buying the game again as Legendary because that will be cheaper than buying the DLC separately. Of course if you don't do it short term, there's a chance it might drop in price some more in future sales.

The little small things such as finding a dead body with a journal that talks about his buddy going into a cave and never coming out, then when you go inside you find his buddy dead and letters to his family talking about all the creatures he's fought.
The little stuff like that makes me want to play it more than anything else. And its endless. There is always something to do, even if you finish all the quests.

Lots of things to do - quests in one town, quests in one region, guild-releated questlines - also as in TES titles, there are lots of intrestingly organized things in the world. You can hind a herbalist who was killed by Spriggans, a cougar cat stabbed with a spear like in 300, notes in an abandoned house about the owner worrying about the nearby dragon - then you find the owner's burnt body as well. There are lots of little, short stories told by notes, or you can figure them out by your environment.
There is so much thing to see and experience in the world, if you can immerse yourself in like a true warrior (and by playing it on a decent difficulty/with mods, so no 1vs2 giants charge and things like that) then it's a real pleasure. Discovering old ruiny strongholds, banishing evil necromancers and conjurers, delving into old dwarven (Dwemer) cities with ancient mechanic automatons still guarding it. Even though it's a little simplified compared to earlier TES titles (MUCH easier combat than in Morrowind, less talk and lore, also simpler level-up system) but it doesn't take away from it's charm and enjoyability. Also, gameplay with mages (what kind of mage?), archers, assassins or fighters (not to mention paladin, spellsword and various hybrid-ish playstíles) can differ a lot :)

I didn't really like it, because it seems to have no end. xD

While the main story has an actual ending, the game is designed so you can keep playing after that. And the radiant system will provide you with an infinite number of quests although they become repetitive after a while.

Don't really own it...but from what I've heard it's got awesome lore and a really huge open world free roam...would love to play it but I just don't like first person view games.

Most of the reasons that people tend to point out are in a lot of other games with the only differences being the obvious - Lore, setting, characters(although it uses a lot of the generic-y types of characters).

It's mostly the combat. People claim the combat is 'unique' and 'revolutionary' and all of that but it's pretty generic especially since dual-casting isn't very unique and automatic-kill-scenes is just a... Theatrical bonus.
I'd say the story is where the game shines but even then they really rushed it towards the end and I expected bigger-scale story quests rather than short, small tasks that had to be done. They broke the story up into small quests rather than long, story-oriented exploration quests. Albeit TES has not necessarily been made with exploration in mind other than exploring dungeons and, y'know, daggerfall. Just kind of hoped for a difference from Oblivion since that was pretty much 'go to dungeon, kill enemy / get item, turn quest in'.

it's true that combat in skyrim is very shallow. I totally understand your opinion on the main story, i too wished it was bigger and it explored more of the lore instead of moving from one place to the next very quickly.
I disagree that TES has no been made with exploration in mind. I see oblivion, skyrim and morrowind as games where you explore a virtual world which you shape with your actions merged with dungeon crawling to scratch that RPG itch. These games are the only ones that allow me to immerse myself in the world where i can go to my house pick my weapon and armour , go to the tavern to look for anyone needing help then go to a dungeon to complete the quest and when i return home i can read a book about the mysterious stuff that happens in this world.
I get why many people say that skyrim is not as good as (most) people claim, i disagree because it is one of the few that allows for so much freedom, it's not something it's parts shine but it's where the whole feels bigger then the sum of its parts.

Where shall i start?
The characters? the different life paths you can pick? the amount of quests? the amount of towns/villages? THE STORY? the diversity?
The most successful AAA on Steam (valve's games are excluded), the most wanted game and you are not sure you want to give it a try? You've seen videos and you ask?
The guy above me is right when he says "cant tell if a troll or not"

Personaly what i like about Skyrim (and the TES series) is the freedom. You can do whatever you want, whenever you want. you feel like you are in a "real" world. You can steal, murder, explore, create a family, find treasure, join guilds, help other people, etc. The game will also remember most of your choices in quests so when you visit cities or villages you hear people talking about your victories. The feeling that every thing you see you can probably get it is also pretty cool.
I don't think there's any game like Skyrim/oblivion/morrowind, which are just open sandboxes to interact the way you want and when you want. That freedom is something that no other game captured for me.

SKYRIM Is A Huge Game That You Play And Play Until You Finish It... And Its DLC Story-Quests... And Then You're Left Wondering, "Well... What Do I Do With My Time Now?"
And The Answer To THAT... Is Probably Play FALLOUT-NEW VEGAS... But YOU Figure It Out Newbie. ENJOY SKYRIM!

Vanilla game is pretty bad, only worth it because of the amount of mods.
Honestly, its only fun if you value exploring more than story/combat, the rpg part is mediocore.
If you like rpg's the game is dissapointing, plenty of better ones with better story and combat, getting this game is more like buying base modding engine to download community created content to fix what developers didn't bother to.
