Hey everyone!
I'm doing some research on impression formation for a psychology class at my uni, and I need lots of data because social psychology is real fun that way.

In any case, I thought an interesting way to get some participants would be to make giveaways, so here I am!
The survey itself is pretty simple to fill out, completely anonymous, and should take under 20 minutes to complete.
To motivate you, I've got a little giveaway train at the end which contains a handful of games I personally think are great!

Here's a link to the survey: <survey is closed>

If you've got the time, I'd really appreciate it if a few of you would fill out the survey. :) It would really help me out!

EDIT:
Hello everyone!

The survey and giveaways have ended, I've had the fun of trying to sort out problems with SPSS and finish the report, and now I am able to let you all know how you did. :)

Now, please note that I was not able to use absolutely all of the responses collected. Some were obvious trolls, for example. But you guys really gave me a lot (and I mean a LOT) of data to work with, so it was really a pleasure to analyse.

As a reminder, my hypotheses were:

  1. Profession would have the most effect on ratings
  2. Personality would also have a large effect
  3. Sexual orientation would have a slight effect, with bisexual producing the lowest scores

Here are some bar charts from my report: http://imgur.com/57dOLa8

In the end, profession and personality were the most influential variables, with profession only very slightly in the lead. I noticed an interesting interaction between these two variables, so I explored it in Figure 2, where you can see personality being the main factor when it comes to the first two professions, but the last profession evidently... had some low scores all around. haha

Finally, sexual orientation had no significant effect, statistically speaking. I was personally pleased to be proven wrong. :)

Thanks again everyone for helping out, and also for your helpful comments. I made sure to remember them when writing how the study could be improved. Next time (if there is a next time on here) I'll try to make the survey more interesting. :P

i completed your survey basically anything with thief no matter how friendly or cruel got 1 from me i gave 15 to docs and mechs who were friendly (cant give 20 cause i assume i just met the person and someone i trust described him to me so it would take time to know him better) and 10 to all other variation except cruel and incopotent which got 1 , if he was straight or gay or bisexual wouldnt matter to me

It's kind of annoying with the same questions, which might lead to inaccurate results.
I would suggest just to ask people to put they preferences for each parameter in order, since in your examples they doesn't seem to be linked that much.
i.e. in my case
Doctor = Mechanic -> Thief
Gay = Straight = Bisexual
Friendly -> Enthusiastic -> Unlucky = Incompetent -> Nervous -> Cruel

I think that's actually pretty intentional in most psych tests. It is often used to tell if people are being truthful or lying (a.k.a. just checking things off to get through the test). It is meant to help eliminate results that are not an accurate depiction of anyone's actual thoughts.

Certainly, results tend to be more accurate when they have to be repeated and when they are asked in a less straightforward manner. I'm looking for subtle differences in large pools of data. If I were looking for something pronounced, I could probably be content with only a handful of respondents and some very straightforward answers.
I just wish social psychology surveys were more interesting for participants. x.x

Perhaps this will help those struggling with 1-20 versus 1-5 or 1-20... mind you, it is complete bullshit...

oh wow, did you make this? that's quite nice to look at~ If only I were able to offer such context on the survey. Unfortunately I had to leave things up to the interpretation of the participant to avoid bias

Did the survey, found it lacking in trickery :D Got the general idea of it pretty soon but maybe because I did a lot of these for friends and friends of friends in the past. Did you take in account that there might be people that just spammed random numbers just to get to the train? Could skew your results.

yeah I will be trying to weed out those kinds of responses. I should probably have put in some kind of trickery to force people to pay attention heheh maybe next time

I don't like cars, so the mechanics suffered a bit, but less than the thieves and the cruel.

Interesting survey! I gave 1s to anyone who was a thief, incompetent, cruel or nervous... regardless of sexual orientation or job, you don't want those types potentially endangering you. Anyone unlucky, I wasn't so sure about how to answer those since they could invoke sympathy but at the same time if it causes them to make bad decisions, I wouldn't want to be near them either so I gave them low scores... Everything else got neutral 10s, just because I'm not a people-person. I would need to know more about them and seen them in action to decide whether I'd trust and like them or not.

I have to say that I disliked the survey.
It's too repetitive, too long and it uses too simplistic "descriptions" that I don't see as useful in proving anything.
For a second I suspected that the real objetive was to evaluate the patience in answering silly surveys.

Haha sorry to hear that. These kinds of surveys do tend to be pretty boring. I've been on the receiving end before x.x

I don't think anyone got more than 16 from me, but "cruel" was an instant 1 no matter what their job or sexual orientation was. I think I somewhat reevaluated the scale along the way (1 to 5 would probably have been better). Gender would also have been interesting to better evaluate the whole sexual orientation thing, because I think I saw all of them as males (though it wouldn't have made much difference in the end if they were all female). Funnily enough I think I gave better scores to gay doctors but I don't really know why.

I also would have liked to see a recap of my answers at the end :/

(On a completely unrelated note, I like your avatar a lot.)

Interesting. The recap thing is something I will have to keep in mind for the future.
(So do I haha the person who drew it for me is @everydayfoxlife on twitter, if you're interested. I think she has a webcomic running)

Geezus, all those thieves and cruel people O_O
Started to feel sorry for all the incompetents on the way ...

Pretty quickly stopped thinking about sexuality and focused on the other two factors.
Wouldn't want to bump upon any cruel doctor!

,,Sexual orientation - other" What?

There are a lot of others depending on who you ask (ex: pansexual, asexual, etc.) so I wanted to have it be inclusive :)

Haha I suppose so, what with the "thief" term being a class a lot of the time.
I could certainly post the general trends. The report I'm writing will be in French, though, so I likely won't be putting it up here.

I think it'd skew the results a little. Everyone knows you shouldn't anger healers. Or thieves. :D
