i dont run any at this point. i used to run norton. i clean viruses daily at work. tdsskiller, malwarebytes, process explorer, autoruns is what you mostly need if you suspect something. you can use the virustotal website to scan exe's if you think its suspicious. i have a couple vmware's running if i need to run something temporarily.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials. It's not exactly high rated, but Ive personally never had major problems with it.

I've used a tried numerous antivirus programs.
Last couple of years I used ESET NOD32. Why? Because its good and it doesnt hurt performance (I experienced slight performance issues with others like Kaspersky and Norton)
Our family laptop has the free version of avast installed.

I wish I could find a free AV that's not cloud-based that offers decent detection rates and has an instant whitelist (IE it detects something it asks for actions and one of them is add to whitelist).

I use bitdefender internet security 2016 because I got it for free. I also use malware bytes with it.
