So the end of the year is almost here so I think this is a valid thread (though for some the worst purchase may come via the Steam Winter sale so in that case feel free to reference this thread at that time).

So what is the game you wish you didn't shell out the cash for this year?

For me the award goes to Guild Wars 2. That's probably shocking to some and even myself because I really wanted and thought
i'd fall in love with that game but it just won't grab me no matter how many times I try to get into it.

what do you have against dark souls? Apart from graphics needing mod to look decent and horrible default controls? Both easy to fix :>

Dishonored. For two reasons, both of them not being because its a bad game.

1) It doesn't run too well on my laptop.

2) I paid full price, which I don't think it is worth, I'll say its a $40, or $50 game. Not $60.

^That goes for all games though.

For me it has to be Guild Wars 2. I wanted to get into it, but I couldn't. Never got past level 15, as a Sylvari.

Hmm, I loved that game, and my sister who isn't normally into them sort of games bought it as well. The story line is one of the best I have seen in a game.

Yeah, but gameplay was yet-another-modern-shooter-with-covers. And controls and the cover system were just bad, each time in a corridor I was huging the wall instead of running. Annoying, just annoying.

i'm very sorry to say this, but it's Max Payne 3. I didn't enjoy the single player and played only a half of it. And the multiplayer was boring as well. yeah, and that was pre-purchase =//

None really. I don't buy Games that I would not like. The only thing that I probably would not buy at Launch would be Borderlands 2, because its not really the thing I hoped for. Coop is really crazy and unbalanced and after I complted the Story the Motivation isn't really there to play more. So I got ~40hrs for 28€. In comparison I got New Vegas for 3.75€ like 1 week ago and already got 42hrs out of it.

Re Hitman, really? I love Silent Assassin, think I actually prefer it over Blood Money. Never really played Codename 47 though so can't comment on that.

Wow, I've loads. Max Payne 3 I preordered to get LA Noire and all the Max Payne games... I haven't even finished it. Guild Wars 2 I bought a cheap cdkey for and it was a waste of money and time. I actually bought the CE edition for SWTOR and I never got to 50. And I bought some games on the winter sale I don't really have any intention to play. So meh, I've wasted some money this year but it's not that much.

As of right now, as big a dissapointment as Diablo 3 was, the game was still a lot of fun, and it's getting better. I hate to say this, but going to have to go with Borderlands 2. Solo difficulty (on Zero) is just way too high for me, and it just hasn't hooked me like the first did. And it kills me to say it.

World of Warcraft annual subscription for Diablo 3.

Got back into WoW prior to the annual subscription promo being cut off. Played heavily for the first two or so months and since then have gone back to playing sporadically. I haven't touched D3 in months - mostly because it plays as a poor man's Torchlight (let alone TL2) to me and I haven't finished that yet. I compounded the annual subscription mistake by purchasing WOW:MoP CE and have yet to do anything with a panda past level 10 and have yet to access the new high level content due to starting a new undead priest (a combo I'd always wanted to play but never had).

Other poor decisions - Guild Wars 2 (seems like a good game but I don't have the time to dedicate to being as good as I'd want to be), Football Manager 13 (i'll probably play the hell out of it at some point but got it for preorder price) and Dishonored (another game sitting in my collection that I should have waited to get on massive discount).
