Do you think Admin is doing an amazing job?
Never used Adblock to be honest
And I even click the ads! Most of the time by accident on my phone but sometimes when I see some good lookin' furniture! Oh, Internet you know me so well. Have a cookie.

Can someone in the know confirm whether or not SG receives revenue from simply displaying ads, not clicking them?
Comment has been collapsed.
if ads are not being displayed no one is going to click on them
Very true; you might want to change your message so that well-meaning users know that they need to click in order to do any good.

"Please click this ad to enter the giveaway"
Now that's how cg can get the dough rolling in!

It's a good option in general to disable adblock on site that you like AND don't have annoying ads. I have it disabled on serveral sites, including steamgifts. I do click on ads from time to time too, of course if something interests me, but if there has been some days without anything interesting I'll click on one of them just to generate revenue.
Most people don't know that letting the ads print is not generating any (or nearly any) revenue to the site, only clicks matters. Steamgifts has other forms of revenue too, for example if you buy a game on GreenManGaming or GamersGate through the link on steamgifts giveaway site (the ones that say the price on the stores), Steamgifts gets a 2,5% (GMG) or 8% GG of the amount you pay (this may vary since SG is BIG, those are base prices).

I didn't know that. Those looked like regular links to me, not referrals. On the other hand I don't know how GMG and GG's referral programs work. Are you sure it's true?
Either way little bit of ad revenue won't hurt ;)

I'm 100% sure as I was checking the same for sgtools. If you follow the redirection of the url you'll end up with a CJ Affiliates link (the same I was looking for before getting curious to check SG links).
I was really surprised that they used a middleman like CJ with the big volume of users SG has. I thought they had a direct affiliate deal...

While I understand that good sites deserve it when they aren't intrusive, I do a blanket block after another trusted site ended up running an infected advert, forcing me to do a deep scan of my system.

Similar situation here... While I would love to disable it for sites I want to support, I've had too many websites that got malicious ads through some route and ending up infecting my system... Even if the owners don't intend it and check every ad manually, some still get through and that happens too often for my tastes... Maybe I'm a bit paranoid, but I just don't want to risk it yet again.

With Google advertisement platforms it happened a few times already (3 times in the last year that I know of, most recent one being last week... Google.com itself fell victim to that one too...). Not to mention that Google is known for doing things of questionable nature on their own accord as well in order to get more data, I wouldn't trust them even if my life depended on it.

Please show me screenshot evidence of support insulting you or anyone else.
I'm not even kidding, I'm serious. Go ahead and show me. If it's true (which I doubt), it's a serious issue. If it's not, well there's that.

I can, but it will break the rule of not calling out?

There you go, because i don't even care.

heh, funny that he chose to show only tempete's reply. lucky that the thread is now closed, or he will be in 50% of user's blacklists by now.

Hey, again i don't care about blacklists at all.
You want to tell me that is okay and justifiably for support staff to "give" example of "good" behavior.
Again i never insulted no one on this forum, i am not to blame when people get insulted over my personal opinion.
If you are attached to this site like on life support machine that doesn't mean i am too...

support users are volunteers, they aren't affiliated with sg. the don't need to give you any examples, just use common sense and be polite. you should be glad the rule system is so strict here, staff can't ban or suspend because they feel like it...
and if you feel you didn't insult anyone with that reply in the other thread, well, let's just stop it here because there's no point in trying to reason with you.

Well, if you think support staff should enforce that kind of behavior in this community we should really stop it here.
Guy asked for a screenshot of support insulting me or others. I did provide him with that screenshot and there was no point to discuss it any further... but you had urge to protect him or prove something that does not exist "like me insulting others".
This site should be about games, not about dead pets or dead people and that is my opinion...

Never heard of uBlock. I just opened the page and it says "Not available for Firefox 17.0". I guess AdBlock Plus isn't the only old program I am still using, lol.
Edit: uBlock was first released in June 2014, I am still running Firefox 17.0.1 which was released in 2012. No wonder it isn't compatible. Oh, well, i'm gonna stick with it till I have a reason to upgrade. That will either be because it stops working or I get a virus. That reminds me, I'm also still running AVG 2012, last definitions updated 6/21/15. Damn, I'm lazy.

I used to use AdBlock because of those damned 15 sec unskippable adds on YouTube. Now that I'm on Windows 10, I use Edge as my browser, and since it does not support AdBlock yet, I got a list of adresses and put it inside a document somewhere on windows as to block me to connecting to those adds. Those incluse pretty much everything. But yeah, when Edge starts supporting add-ons, I'll get AdBlock and allow those in this site to go through, as they're not abusive nor "unskippable".

I use adblock on my Windows PC as well as noscript and I'm pretty militant about it as I have gotten malware through dodgy ads on otherwise legit sites in the past. But I mostly log onto this site from a mac or using linux or on an android device and I don't bother using adblock on those. Hopefully that is good enough.

Yes. did so ... and just wondering how disturbing it is to see such an ad ... but I will endure!

Most of us use AdBlock (or similar extensions) because ads are stupid and annoying. However, they generate revenue.
Since cg does not want to accept donations (which makes me love and respect him even more) let's at least disable adblock on this site. It is just one small banner anyway.
Running the site that we all love is not cheap and on top of that it is being constantly upgraded and improved.
If you don't mind please bump this post so other people would see it.
See screenshots below. Click "Don't run on pages on this domain" in AdBlock settings.
Edit: Screens show AdBlock in Google Chrome because it's a most common combination (I think). If you use a different browser or/and blocker just look through settings and you will find something similar. Don't forget to whitelist entire domain (steamgifts.com) and not just a single page.
