ReX from Otaku Bundle #25 (recently revoked, a month ago keys were good)

From Indie Gala - Just 1337 Bundle (March 2017)
Gifted the following games to my boyfriend last week and he got the "duplicate product code" message, the keys were unrevealed in my IndieGala library until the moment I gave them to him:
All from the same developer/publisher (EGAMER).

Same. Was from opquests. I sent them a support ticket.

well, they offered keys for publicity then revoked the keys...
free advertising i guess?

Someone wrote a review and they harshly replied:
Our company is not selling the game through third party sites. If you bought the game on a third party site it means you bought a key from a scammer.
They also replied on the Steam discussion you linked but they toned down a bit:
We were never selling the game outside of Steam or GOG. If you bought the game in a different store than Steam or GOG please contact our support and inform us where and how did you get the key.
Comment has been collapsed.
Follow-up:
We generate keys for beta tests and for the press. We receive every day a few requests for keys for review - mostly from scammers. Any key sent to the press is not a key with right to sell the game. Also take note, that you did not get the game from us. If you had bought the game from a third party site from our official profile then the situation would be different, problem is WE DO NOT have any official profile on key shops sites. The only legal source to get the game are the official channels. If you buy games in key shops you know the risks and we don't believe you are not aware that most of the keys sold there are stolen from the devs and not legal. If you don't want to have problems with your games buy them from official sources. If you buy a stolen car don't expect the producer of the car to take responsability.
They receive "a few requests for keys for review" but the giveaway was for 2000 keys. They don't tag their keys accordingly ("for Beta Testing", "Preview", "Promotional", "Press",...). Same depot/AppID as the retail game. They really should take a basic course on how Steam works or stop lying.
Oh, and they don't sell their games outside of Steam of GOG but they did "sell" FALLOUT 2 on Indie Gala's Hump Day Bundle #18.

Opquests said on Discord:
These keys were directly from the publisher we are trying to contact them about this issue - they were not "stolen" or anything similar
Comment has been collapsed.
Another follow-up, *new^ reply from the developers:
As you can see from the link you provided the codes were used to promote a game from another publisher and so it wasn't distributed according to the guidelines. You should contact opquests and they should provide you with a legal copy of the game. The only legal sources for the game are Steam and GOG, so official distribution channels.
That's a bit of nonsense because: 1) They're both the developer and publisher of the game (unlike Realpolitiks I and II where
Jujubee S.A.is the developer but the publisher is different) and 2) that's exactly what OPquests do, promotion (I don't remember if the giveaway promoted this game or others from them -or related publishers-). In the end, no one "stole" he keys, with this reply they're admitting that they willingly gave the keys to the giveaway site O_o

Dev is deleting threads and very likely using alt accounts to attack people asking about the situation
Comment has been collapsed.
There were several threads of varying wanting updates on both games. When I checked last, it was narrowed to 2 or 3. I have not checked back to see if there are more.
Editing to add; I believe removals may have been a glitch or poor internet issues. I was with horrible internet this weekend. So we can tentatively remove that issue. Valve has closed a thread themselves.
Dev is likely using the alt accounts to attack people and perhaps (pure speculation) the goal is to get threads closed without having to intervene himself.

Considering that the game was never bundled, given away or listed on the Russian shops, I would assume that your copy comes from DIG marketplace.
Comment has been collapsed.
true, DIG but from "Shop" not Marketplace. i do remember other games from same dev/publisher, never bundled, all keys bought at DIG. Publisher and developer have changed through the years. i've already done a bit of search, but want to try with other keys from this same dev/pub.
i'll let you know if something pops up.

question: is the Unused Keys Revoked list: https://barter.vg/notices/513 searchable?
i do search this thread (https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/Dgscb/a-list-of-games-whose-unredeemed-keys-were-revoked/search?q=danger) and the Archive (https://www.steamgifts.com/archive/search?q=danger) before creating "risky" GAs. Archive search is really useful
Comment has been collapsed.
If you're logged in and you do a Barter search for the game, you get much more info than here though. On the item page, you can scroll down to the "Notices" section; there you can see if anyone else also reported this. "Duplicates" is the usual tag that we give it, "Unused keys revoked" is when multiple keys proved to be dupe.
The notice sometimes has attached a list of bundles / giveaways that the dupe key was reported from (when this info is available), or any other extra comments that users can add when they report the notice.
Anyone can add their own notice, but they all need to be verified by a moderator. Verified notices are shown in red, pending ones in grey.

1x Border of her Heart (from DIG Store)
1x Defendoooooor!! (these used to work, should be from a Limited GoGo bundle)
1x BORIS the Mutant Bear with a Gun (old news, my fault, didn't search, sorry Support :P)
2x Katie (from DIG Store, keys worked 6 months ago, "Katie: Gratitude Pack" still works)

as reported here before, Space Trader: Merchant Marine keys seem to have been all revoked by the devs. I had a few (maybe 5 of them), and none of them were valid.
so, maybe a word of warning to anyone making giveaways with keys from meridian4, there's a very likely chance they've all been invalidated.
Comment has been collapsed.
adding to this: all keys for Dark Matter (Meridian4 as well) were also duplicate.

Total 15, should be from Go Go Bundle #55, tried 3 keys, can't check for soundtrack
edit: tried to add a notice on barter... but then deleted as wasn't that sure what i was doing :D

I added it for you now.
In the Notices section, select the Go Go bundle from the list and the notice type "duplicates" from the dropdown above it, then press "+ Add Trading Notice". You can also add some text where it says "Note to trading tag verifiers", I added "3 keys tried". That's it!

Redeemer Enhanced Edition from Fanatical reported as duplicate and I got this reply from support:
βββ
I can see the order in question is very old and as such it appears the keys have been removed from Steam by the developers of the game. Because of this the game is no longer redeemable.A key is valid unless somebody else redeems it, or the developers of the game remove the key from Steam, both will result in a 'duplicate key' message from Steam.
If we had replacement keys available then even after this period of time we would have swapped then for you, but our spare keys have also been removed from Steam.
βββ
This was from the Sanctuary Bundle but if this is true probably more bundle sales could be affected.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, if the store no longers sells the game the devs will normally make the key batch given to the store invalid. There are cases where the devs won't deactivate keys in the batch they gave the store as well, but that's not often from my understanding. If it's an old purchase it's best to check to the store you got it from to see if it's still sold on it, if not there's a high chance it won't work anymore. When this occurs there's not much the store can do, it's out of their hands as mentioned by the support member on Fanatical. This same situation applies to HB, GMG, etc.
Comment has been collapsed.
You are right, I did not realize that it is such a big thing at first but then I saw they had removed the game completely from the Fanatical store too.
I contacted them again and they did a really unexpected thing in refunding me 10% of the old bundle price as compensation. I was hoping they would maybe contact the publisher about it and somehow get replacements but oh well, at least they did something and did not go the Humble way βfinal answer. please do not contact us again about this matterβ :)
Comment has been collapsed.
That's great that Fanatical did you some compensation for it, not sure if that's something they normally do or not.

another heads up: all the keys I had for Storm in a Teacup seem to have been revoked. uncertain if it's due to their origin (ubercrate...)
Comment has been collapsed.
It's indeed possible that only the keys from Ubercrate are invalidated. There was a successful trade 6 days ago on Barter, so there are keys that still work.

I tried activating my leftover keys from the various GrabTheGames/SteamFreeKey giveaways through gleam.io and all turned up dupes. Namely A Trip to Yugoslavia: Director's Cut, Regions Of Ruin, The Deed, Dead Bits and Through Abandoned: The Underground City. Luckily I activated / gave away most keys from this source a long time ago but with this track record I'd expect everything from them to be dupes by now.

Rhythm Knights is getting Delisted.
Hey Everyone,
I want to take a moment to sincerely apologize for the recent delisting of my game on Steam, which unfortunately resulted in the revocation of your keys. I know that this decision has caused frustration and disappointment and I genuinely apologize for any inconvenience it caused.
The decision to remove the game from the Steam Storefront was not an easy one. As I mentioned on Twitter and our Discord channel a while ago, the game and its remake are still available on itch.io for free. However, Steam's policies required me to revoke all keys in order to proceed with the delisting. The message about payment that you received was not written by me, but rather a default Steam message that I had no control over.
I want to emphasize that the game in question represents a product of its time. It was my very first attempt at creating a full-fledged REAL game, and since then, I have grown so much as a developer. I no longer want this game to be a reflection of where I am right now in my journey, simply because I have outgrown it. I hope you can all understand.
In an effort to make amends and show my gratitude for your understanding, I would like to offer each of you a key for another one of my games. Please private message me on Twitter @OhKolbi for a key of any of my other games.
I'm honestly shocked to see so many people upset that a game of this low quality is getting removed from Steam. I figured there weren't people who liked it enough to care.
Thank you for your understanding.
Comment has been collapsed.
Not complete misunderstanding, just straight up lying lol. All my posts where I called out how the game wasn't on itch and how he was forcing people to jump through hoops if they dare wanted to see "proof" of this being Valve's requirement got deleted and he banned me from the community. It's clear his intentions are trying to erase this original version from history by being an ass

Update from dev:
https://steamcommunity.com/app/1651440/discussions/0/3805027864677865236/
Update: Important Announcement
Hey Everyone,
Due to the mass influx of people who were solely interested in collecting keys for delisted games, I have made the decision to no longer offer replacement keys. I apologize for any confusion or disappointment this may cause.
For those who genuinely wanted to play the game, I want to remind you that it is still available for free on itch.io. You can download and enjoy it there without any restrictions. I appreciate your understanding and support.
To those who were solely focused on obtaining keys for their collections, I must express my disappointment. It saddens me to see individuals exploiting a small-time struggling indie developer like myself for personal gain, even if it is just to increase the value of their accounts by a few cents. This behavior goes against the principles of our community, and I have no desire to include such individuals within it.
I would like to take this opportunity to apologize once again for any inconvenience caused by the delisting of my game. It was not an easy decision for me, but it was necessary for my growth as a developer. The game represents a product of its time, and I have evolved significantly since then. I hope you can understand and respect my decision.
Lastly, I want to express my gratitude to those who have shown genuine support and understanding throughout this process. Your encouragement means a lot to me.
Once again, I apologize for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding.

Is this guy really that stupid???

Wow, his response to exosyphen shows, yes he really is that stupid...
Hey DailyIndieGame.com,
You paid for keys and received the keys. You did not make me sign any sort of legal agreement or contract that states anywhere that I couldn't revoke the keys when I remove the game from the Steam Storefront.
The game is that of poor quality, and I do not want it on the Steam Store. That is my decision, and you have absolutely no legal grounds to prosecute on. Thanks for your business!!!
Comment has been collapsed.
IMO this is partially a problem with Steam themselves. The dev contract or steam TOS should not allow this, or if it did, it should refund every single purchase to at least wallet funds. The idea that devs have the power to just revoke the game without consequence is ridiculous. So much fraud.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, he also removed postings and threads which were factual and not insulting.
He still thinks that he had to this, although purchase disabling doesn't require any revocation at all and not a single other dev has ever brought that up. The others were always on it because of grey market copies or missing payment by bundle websites.
Even if we would convince him, he doesn't know how to revert it and would have to ask Valve again.
Comment has been collapsed.
It has happened before when a dev accidentally revoked ALL keys instead of only unused keys, and Valve was able to restore them. Though I don't envision this dev doing that since he is trying to sabotage the game as much as possible, for some reason. I expect the next step will be to nuke the depots so even existing (steam store) owners can no longer play the game...
Comment has been collapsed.
Yep, can totally see him doing that. I'm pretty sure his motives (if there are any and he isn't just completely incompetent) is to try to wipe this game off the earth. The version he finally uploaded to itch.io is a 26mb corrupted zip and when I commented it didn't work, he banned me from the comments there too.
I made sure to make a backup of the latest depot, as well as the one before that since it had stolen FNF assets. And it seems like they run fine without Steam (not that I will probably ever play them lol)

Lists to use:
Unused Keys Revoked: https://barter.vg/notices/513
Revoked (Dev): https://barter.vg/notices/362
Revoked (DMCA): https://barter.vg/notices/361
Duplicates: https://barter.vg/notices/372
If you want this information for one game specifically, you can find it under the "Notices" section for the Barter entry of that game.
(Example: https://barter.vg/i/42708/ then scroll down to "Notices": you'll see the red notice "Revoked (Dev) β«"; mouseovering it will give you some more info)
Thanks to everyone who reported their key revocations here. Please continue reporting them here. You folks are awesome!
Due to character limit, time constraints and having to manually create the chart rows, it's very difficult to keep a list on revocations on SteamGifts. Since I am the one managing these notices on Barter anyway, I thought it would be convenient to centralize the reports from SteamGifts and trade offers into one place and Barter proved to be a good solution for that because of its bundles and game database.
The below lists will not be updated on SG any more, but all your reports will be reflected on Barter, so please continue reporting them.
Previous links, for reference:
A list of games completely revoked from your library after activation
A list of games whose unredeemed keys were revoked (the big chart that was previously in this thread was moved here)
More games with invalidated keys can be found here.
