He has a point. You are literally complaining just to complain. You don't even own the game yet it compels you to call people "Fuckin' a-holes"?

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm complaining because all of the others will soon pick up on this and I don't like the idea since we already have DLC's and all other shitnitz and the last thing we need is another buy-to-play stuff.

The game is 99% the same regardless of the ship. It would be like a racing game saying "get this badge and you get an extra car".

Just treat it like any DLC: buy it or ignore it. No need to start raging at Valve/the Devs and swearing about it.

Now you have to own a game to be able to complain about a retarded system that may be picked up by other developers?

No, but you probably shouldn't word your original post that way if you don't own the game.

2 ships, that's a beatiful story my dear friend.

Let me sum up most of the qqing in here...

"OMG, people are getting something I can't afford or refuse to trade for. Why can't I have ALL the things for free? Why can't everyone have exactly the same stuff? I just CAN'T handle anyone having something I don't have!"

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Exactly this.

I don't even care about cards and therefore will never play with these ships... and that is 100% fine!

Comment has been collapsed.

I only have a problem when it is in competitive games, the kid spending $100 of his Christmas money is going to beat the guy who just picked up the base game for $20. Then again they should just buy another game but you get the point.

agreed +1, couldn't care less about some extra ships but if I would I'd either: a) accept that they're out of my reach / b) Get the cards one way or another

You're missing the point. Cosmetic content - stuff that exists just for rich people to show off - is fine. But gameplay should always be the same for everyone. And in the case of anything competitive, even if it's just leaderboards, it MUST be the same for everyone.

In the case of what was originally implemented in Beat Hazard, rich people could pay upwards of €10 for an official cheat. That's barely tolerated in P2Ws, and putting it in a paid game should be unthinkable.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Life is a P2W. Talent and training get you much of the way but having the right tools is important too. Do you think a lawyer that doesn't have a PDA, an extensive library, and paid paralegals can compete as well as firm with more assets? How foolish would it be for a pro-athlete to play his / her sport with bargain shoes from Walmart? Even construction workers that can afford more efficient tools and the latest building materials will have a competitive advantage over their peers.

People have to decide how serious they are about competing "professionally" in the Beat Hazard leader boards. If that really matters to you I guess you will pay extra for the best ship. This is not unlike how "professional" gamers already pay extra for top of the line computers, mice, keyboards, and controllers. You don't think those things give a competitive advantage?

Well I'll just skip/abandon every multiplayer game/game mode where the developers give a pay2win/gameplay changing DLC for it, just like I did with Killing Floor

I'm ok with cosmetic DLCs as rewards.

I hate it. All the rich boys and the people who get a good payment are like "That's epic and awesome!". YEAH, OF COURSE IT IS WHEN YOU HAVE 500+ GAMES AND SPENDING A FEW DOLLARS WON'T BE ANY DEAL FOR YOU... I don't like it at all. It's way worse than Free 2 Play games and even worse than Assassin's Creed's many and different versions... Come on... It would be awesome as cosmetic, but this? First it was the replacement of expansions to DLCs, then free to play/pay to win games and now this? Seriously? I refuge it... Why do I have to do that??? And ESPECIALLY with foil cards. The only ones who will not care are the richboys and the people who have too much money. I mean, I have around to 500 Euros and I only spent 20 Euros this year on Steam which I got from my godmother... I don't want to spend money for NOTHING. A ship is epic, but NOT when I need to spend THAT much money for foil cards AND a lot of normal cards. Seriously, this is an abuse.

You're talking about different groups. Those who whine about them not doing anything are most likely those who collect cards. The ones who whine about them being useful are probably those who sell cards.

Anything that causes cards to sell for more $$$ is fine by me. Most minor DLC stuff, including this, I would never consider paying for anyway, whether via cash or trading cards.

I don't mind DLC which significantly enhances the game (ie the Fallout 3 series DLC) but stuff like this? Meh. If it was any good, they'd be charging real money for it.

Fallout 3 DLC available only as reward for lvl 5 badge? no thx.

Nope. Certainly not suggesting that :)

Besides, to include such a weighty piece of DLC as a "badge only" offering is something only a company who didn't want to make any money would do.

What would've been a bit cooler: devs post a meter on their site that shows "our revenue from your Beat Hazard card transactions"
When the meter hits certain goals, everyone gets the new ships!

And also, that way, when other devs jump on board with the same sort of thing, it's a better popularity contest -- popularity of the actual games and the bonuses the devs offer instead of celebrating individual badge hunters and alienating anyone else.

Or even just make a community "number of badges crafted" goal, instead of a monetary goal.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Then people would be like "Oh, I don't need to get a badge. I'll just leech and wait for others to spend their money and cards on the badges and get the ingame items myself without having to spend a single dime or trade a single card!"

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Ok, so make the meter, and then give the DLC to everyone with a level 1 badge.

im tired of cards being shoved in my face, I dont like steam telling me im not important to the community because I dont farm cards for crappy badges to prove how "steam" I am, Im not buying games I dont want to play for cards and Im sure as hell not going to spend all this extra time trying to trade cards for these badges.

In short:
