I came to leech, to post comments about that and to be blacklisted for that
Comment has been collapsed.
I first came here 5 months ago, to enter a few giveaways created by the Coupon Dumpster group to celebrate reaching 15000 members (which I didn't win, by the way).
Soon after that, I created my first batch of giveaways, using extra bundle keys for games I already owned.
I immediately stumbled upon my first re-roll request (winner already owned that DLC), and my first blacklist (which most likely came from the pissed re-rolled winner, but I cannot verify for obvious reasons), then I started being more active in the forum (after being mostly a lurker for almost a month).
I previously tried to trade a few of my bundle leftovers on Indie Gala, but I mostly received bad offers, either not guaranteed keys from users with low (or no) rep, or free games.
By "bad", I mean things like Dead Bits and Why so Evil (not guaranteed, to add insult to injury) for Thief (the new one, which then I gave away in my first hidden giveaway here).
Now that I'm perfectly acclimated here, I even started analyzing all the games from the bundles I purchase, and give away those that don't interest me too much.
Of course, I also try to win something myself, but I'm highly selective of the giveaways I enter, so my points are more or less fixed at 300 (except when there's a big forum event).

I came to leech games , but i realized it was impossible
Comment has been collapsed.
I joined the site only for the trades. Then I decided to start joining giveaways too, because free games. xD
I agree with you. We don't need rules on giveaways. And everyone can make a mistake. :/
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, everyone can make mistakes... especially if they don't read the rules.
Now, comparing a giveaway site's rules to real-life laws might be a bit of a stretch, but it makes things clear nonetheless:
Ignorantia legis non excusat
In English that would translate to "the law doesn't excuse ignorance", and that means exactly that:
breaking a law while not knowing it is not a valid excuse, and those who do it shall be punished regardless.
Comment has been collapsed.
Why it doesn't excuse it? If I go to your country and you have a weird law that doesn't allow me to eat candy, which I didn't even know about, why would you punish me for that? Should I have read all your country's laws first before going there? As you said though, we can't really compare this site's rules with real-life laws. And this site's rules aren't exactly clear. By the way, most of the times, rules and laws favor the powerful people, not the simple people.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, the Italian legislation works exactly like that, although the "Ignorantia legis non excusat" principle is mostly applied to the penal code. Obviously, it shouldn't be too difficult to know that killing or stealing are crimes, for example.
Comment has been collapsed.
Like, when I was in the navy, I didn't know that kompoloi or using something else like a kompoloi wasn't allowed in the army. But one day, I was using my keys just like a kompoloi and one of the superiors said that I will get punished for doing that, but I kept insisting that I didn't know that it wasn't allowed, so he didn't eventually punish me. :P So, my ignorance saved me. :P
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, even though there is supposed to be freedom of religion in most European countries, I would be wary about expressing my religious beliefs, in cases like that.
I guess that being the army, there must have been people of different beliefs, so it's possible that this rule exists in order to avoid the chance of anyone feeling offended.
Comment has been collapsed.
What are you talking about? xD Nobody is using it for religious reasons. It's a game/toy with which you play, mostly used by people of older ages. And they don't even care about people of different religious beliefs, by the way. :P But anyway, it's used as a game/toy, so I guess they don't want us to "play"? I don't even know. :P
A kompoloi is this one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Worry_beads
Comment has been collapsed.
I must've mistaken it for a "komboloi", then. Similar spelling, different items... or not? Obviously, I'm not too well-versed with Greek.
In this case, it could be something about being in a serious place, and superiors not wanting you to "lose" your time with games.
Comment has been collapsed.
Hmmm, but it's the same word. o.O You're probably mistaking it with the prayer rope (komposkini): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prayer_rope
Well, they never wanted us to have fun, so probably that's why he wanted to punish me. :'(
Comment has been collapsed.
That will be off topic but what is "kompoloi"? Google didn't helped me :(

Here it is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Worry_beads
Comment has been collapsed.
yes, you are completely right.
however, once a punished has been served, the "dept" to society has been paid and no more punishments.
right?
Comment has been collapsed.
In real-life, I would be hesitant to agree, because more often than not criminals just don't care about punishments, and redo what they were condemned for once free (with the fucked up system we have in Italy, this is more or less the norm).
On this site, instead, I perfectly agree, and that's why I decided to start using more lenient filters for my SGTools giveaways.
I still check for unactivations and multi-wins, but only for those that happened in the last few months.

RL is a problem. but you know what?
you always only hear about the ones who didn't got their life together...
in the USA (i'm not from there...) they have the "third strike and you are out" rule. similar stuff applies here
Comment has been collapsed.
Here instead, we have a system so fucked up, that if a cop kills a criminal, the cop is deemed a cold-blood murderer, and condemned as such.
But if a criminal kills someone, it's perfectly normal, they'll be even given a discount on their sentence, if arrested at all.
And what about stalkers? Those who don't accept being ditched by their girlfriends/wifes, and constantly threaten them?
They might be continually denounced by their former partners, but nothing will be done until they've killed the "object" of their desire, because if they can't have it, no one else must. I say "object", because it's how such beings (that don't even deserve being called people) see women.
And about financial crimes?
Big corporation/bank/VIP/whatever, steals millions (or even billions) by evading taxes? They get a small fine, if caught.
"Standard" citizen accidentally fails to declare a few cents while paying taxes? That's the worst crime ever, hand over all your possessions to make up for that. No, that's no joke, sadly.
And what about migrants? I'm not surprised at all to hear about all the countries who reject them, or decide to build huge walls and deploy the army to keep them out. Sadly we (and Greece) don't even have a choice, as the sea forbids us from even thinking about doing it.
Sounds racist? I'm NOT totally opposed to migrants, those who flee from war are more than welcome. The real issue is with those who don't.
Basically, they come here to live a perfect life: they have free shelter, free food, free clothing, a bit of money handed to them everyday, an extra for cigarettes and phone bills, they don't pay taxes, they make children like rabbits to get money from the government, they have free school for them, they work irregularly to be considered unemployed and get even more free money from the government, and I think it's better if I stop here because my blood pressure already went straight through the roof.
Of course, nothing is free: we are the ones paying for that, with taxes (the highest in the entire EU).

no place is perfect. i could start counting the problems with my country (israel). but meh

well, in most cases the money is ordered back.
sadly, it rarely does go back...
Comment has been collapsed.
as far as i know, in most countries you are ordered to give it back.
yes, if you don't have it, you usually get more time in jail. and yes, you are free from debt
Comment has been collapsed.
I think the problem comes when the criminal doesn't have enough to give back...
You can win a cause, but just for satisfaction, because you may never receive back what has been defrauded.
Every country that I know their laws works like you said... but in the practice works this way. :(

I came to win games. Realized I needed to be careful on what I entered. I feel like I hide more games then I enter anymore. I enjoy giving away games, but I hesitate to give away anything expensive. I think if I knew the person would enjoy and play an expensive title I would but for now undecided..anyways rambling I'm still fairly new...great I just got black listed...oh well
Comment has been collapsed.
You were blacklisted for voicing your opinion, most likely.
Welcome to Steam Gifts, where people blacklist others for absolutely every reason they deem fair... or just because they can.
By the way, it was most likely a low level users who doesn't even make giveaways.
And an advice for the future: NEVER talk about blacklists, you'll just get more. I just got one myself for making this comment.
Comment has been collapsed.
Sorry I was.joking referring to my post, didn't realize how it sounded. Is there a way to see if you have been blacklisted?
Comment has been collapsed.
After someone has blacklisted you, you won't be able to enter their giveaways, and they won't appear on the home page anymore.
You can discover who blacklisted you only if you try to access one of their giveaways, and see this message:
Error: You do not have permission to view this giveaway, since you've been blacklisted by the giveaway creator.
Of course, without being able to see them on the home page, you can only discover it by randomly checking users' profiles, or the archive, or participating in a forum event that links random public giveaways.
But, you do not need to worry about blacklists, you should focus your attention on being nice to gain Whitelists instead.
Comment has been collapsed.
unless you filter entries with a whitelist, there's no warranty winners will play your game.
even with a whitelist it's not safe... but at least you can remove them from it and try again, and if you added a description like "only enter if you plan on playing this soon" chances should be higher.

I don't know. I started to leech, found out about the forum, shitposted and did inappropriate/annoying things (think worse than konrad), did the same in the chat, eventually got banned from the chat and suspended on the website, was an asshole about it, eventually got unbanned and my suspension ended.
I tried to improve my personality and how I acted on the forum, eventually managed to stop being an asshole, started gifting more, and... well here I am. I swear I never actually meant to be an asshole though. Steamgifts was pretty much my first time actively participating regularly on a forum, and I wasn't really aware of the... etiquette and expectations, if that makes any sense. I didn't mean to shitpost, and yet I did - looking back at my old posts I cringe so hard, I've half a mind to delete them in hope that nobody ever stumbles across them someday.
Of course, I've never mentioned it to anyone. This is the first time I mention that yes, I was a fucking piece of shit on SG in the past, believe it or not. It wasn't intentional, but still. I'm just happy that people seem to consider me a decent person (well, some of them anyways).
I was at my best around a year ago (maybe more) when I (at least from what I can remember) was extremely kind and helpful and always tried to please everyone. Eventually though, I kinda switched personality to "I got a personality and opinion, fuck you if you don't agree I don't care". I think it happened around the time I was kinda depressed, so yeah. I just woke up and realized that you can't please everyone on a forum, and trying is pointless and makes you stop having an opinion of your own. Now I'm kinda of an asshole but a bit less of an asshole maybe. In the words of Jeff Bridges; "I'm not an asshole, I'm a hemorrhoid. I irritate assholes."

you are only a few months longer then me here. i don't remember you being an add, but my i don't remember what i did last week, so :)

So you're saying that you were a naughty dragon, when you were younger?
Seeing you now, it sounds like you're joking... it's surprising how much people can change in a few years.
Take me as an example: a few years ago I couldn't even imagine I would become active in an online community, I even had a private profile (and no friends) on Steam for almost 2 years, to avoid any kind of social interations.
Still, I wouldn't consider myself an overly friendly guy, and I haven't changed at all in real-life in the last 10 years.
While with my behaviour here I might give the impression of being a nice, honest, and generous guy, the truth is that I'm just an egotistical bitch (although still honest, except to my feelings). Perhaps this could be the start of a new life?

i always assumed you are a guy.
are you not?
it makes no difference... just wondering

haha remember that a couple of months I was suspended for having some gifts without activating, at the beginning I was very upset, however, after to amend my little mistake, slowly that I started to participate more in the forum and creating a couple of giveaways and from then on rather change my perspective the site .... in retrospect I'm glad to suspend me, I think it made me a better person or something like that :3

I have joined site to leech.
Then I started to give bundle leftovers/doubles.
Then I discovered forum and fall in love with puzzles and reading drama. That is really entertaining :)
Also sgt... well that is really complicated subject. I have mixed feelings about that. I don't use it - If some rule breaker wins my ga - it's chance to report him and learn him/her to read rules. Using sgt would be just lazy. On the other hand I understand that people who create 100 ga might find it usefull.

I joined because Neocore were promoting a 50 copy giveaway of Deathtrap on their facebook page and I figured that if a dev is advertising it, it's probably legit.

Initially to leech a few games, like most. After a few wins I felt bad and began to give away games so my ratio would eventually make it back to a 1:1. Now I stay for puzzle Giveaways and events because nothing is quite as satisfying as solving something most people give up on.
Comment has been collapsed.
I honestly did sign in here to leech games. I was thinking that games here comes from developers or people who want to achieve something else like advertise or something similar... I never thought such a big community was sustained by its own users. That's overly awesome I must recognize... My first forum thread was to know more about how be a proper user of steamgifts. I was amazed how things works well here. Since then I'm doing giveaways (less giveaways now due work... this results in lots of leftovers waiting to be given away).
Since I'm no game collector I usually do giveaways to please who may want that game, simple as that. About restrictions, I do high levels GAs because I believe in karma (also people who gives more should have privileges... I just let low levels to who thinks different than me). I think conditions (simple conditions, I don't like SGTools and how is being used lately) are good, because you can see how shallow and empty siles like steamcompanion and others are (IMO). People there just "leech". I stopped to do giveaways there because people doesn't care at all who is giving away what.
I know people do make mistakes and I do recognize that mistakes are made by people, but people also should face the consequences of their own acts. If you eventually do something that prejudice someone else, you should face whatever consequences your act leads to. People came here with zero reputation. If their reputation became, somehow, negative, they will have twice efforts to get a positive reputation. No easy life or shortcut for who did nothing to deserve that...

I came to SG to gift some games that I had a hard time getting off my hands. 2011 was a year when prices for games started really dropping. I could get games in the $1-2 range, and that was incredible. It meant I could buy games I liked (like Faerie Solitaire) and gift them to others. There was also a sale of 10 copies of NyxQuest: Kindred Spirits for $15, and that was just too good a price for me to ignore. (Funny how perspective changed after bundles.)
I tried to gift these games on various forums I frequented and on my Facebook page, which was dedicated to posting hardware giveaways I found, and managed to gift some of them but not enough.
SG was a godsend. Suddenly every game I wanted to gift had hundreds of people interested in it. (And I did manage to get rid of my Faerie Solitaire gift copy before the 25,000 giveaway.) I bought some more games to gift and used SG to build the audience of my Facebook page (from which I got nothing, BTW, except more competition in hardware giveaways, but it was nice to have an audience and help others find giveaways to enter).
After a year or so I realised that I was spending way too much money on games, both for gifting and for the backlog, and stopped cold turkey for a few months. Even before that I stopped entering giveaways, when I realised they'd just be going to the backlog and I could always buy the games I really wanted (I was already not much of a gamer, having two kids didn't leave me much time for that).
I remained on the forum, and did go back to some game buying and gifting. Over time I got disillusioned with SG. I didn't like the 'random trading' mentality, in which those who gave more were more deserving of winning. I still gift occasionally, especially since Unlucky-7 was established, but I don't spend money specifically for that (although when I happen to buy doubles I always do that with an eye to gifting). I also gift on other sites occasionally.

I have no nostalgia. I enjoy this place more than ever, and thanks to the site you're complaining about I can give to far more people than ever without worrying about wasting my time and Support time with an endless stream of rerolls (most of which get rejected for "already served suspension"). Thanks to having better ways to give I can focus on what's great about this place - the huge variety of people and opinions, with users from every possible country and age group and one very positive subject in common - gaming. I also don't see giveaways in threads as an obligatory thing, but more like something that most thread starters enjoy doing. I know I do, and not only when I start threads :-)
And to answer the question in the title - I originally came here to trade, but found the forums and giveaways to be more enjoyable, so I'm staying for those.
Comment has been collapsed.
want to post the GA up? it won't get any attention here. but i do apperciate the gesture.
however, in your own words:
most of which get rejected for "already served suspension"
for me, that is enough. if sgtools had an option to see whatever the suspension was already served, or SG i would be less severe about it.
since all of you who came trade remained for the GA and forum, i see no reason to start trading now ;)
oh, and
one very positive subject in common - gaming
you forgot leeching jk
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, feel free to post the GA in the OP. And if you're also updating the title, you might also want to fix the couple of typos there ;-)
If SG allowed me to see if a user served a suspension for given infractions I would (probably) be willing to remove the "no unactivated wins" rule from my SGTools filters. I need to think about it some more, but my main issue is that GA creators and Support have to deal with this endless and pointless cycle of reroll request that are destined to be rejected. The secondary point is that this infraction (unlike multiple wins) is easy to fix, so I don't know if suspension is the right solution to begin with.

You do realise that posting on a public forum allows everyone to see it right? Like "stalking" as seems to be your line of defence of you actions is almost impossible to avoid as it places you at the top of the discussion thread. You are going around the forums waving your arms like a lost child trying to tell everyone how evil everyone is. You literally called a bunch of people names, you are in the wrong here.
Comment has been collapsed.
You're not that important to me. I've replied to two of your comments in which you falsely claim you have been hard done by without posting the facts. You talked shit, you got caught talking shit, you got kicked for talking shit. These are facts, everything else in this matter is completely irrelevent.
You dodge questions, when trying to approach you privately you shirked from the conversation and are still trying to deflect from the fact that you actively went out of your way to bully members of the forum.
Will I keep replying to put an end to your bullshit, yes. Until you decide you want to do this privately if you want to talk bollocks, i'll keep correcting your lies. You brought this into an even more public domain, aside from the fact literally anyone can see the initial back and forth, you've now decided you want an even more public place to shout about it.
Comment has been collapsed.
you falsely claim
and that statement makes your case the absolute truth on steamgifts.
let's clear things up so everyone can see how you love to dramatize things:
i called you a phony, because that's how i perceive you here. maybe i'm right or maybe i'm not, but shouldn't matter to you.
you already got me kicked out of your group because of it, so deal with that like a grown up, not everyone will like you on real life. stop sounding like a broken record.
now i can call you worse, but only in my mind so you can't go around steamgifts looking where i posted that comment. \o/
also, feel free to contact all your friends over here and ask them to blacklist me, i don't care about that kind of people, they will be doing me a favor by isolating themselves from me.
Comment has been collapsed.
Now lets clear things up further.
You also named around 6-7 other people on the forums, and claimed "90% of BAA are phonies" you claimed someone who has just left was a phony and engaged in a hateful discussion about them all. I was also described as a moron and a hypocrite. I tried dealing with it like a grown up, I approached you privately and tried to find out what the issue was. Lets not forget, this isn't the first time you've actively spoken about me on the forum in a bad light, to which I largely tried to ignore and you apologised for.
If anyone wants to read it, they can, its out there for everyone to see.
Stop trying to come across as the victim and own up to your mistakes. I did not get you kicked from a group, you got yourself kicked from the group because you literally called both admins names, along with naming 4-5 other prominent members names AND saying 90% of the group were phonies.
Now, why would you even want to be a part of that group? You want me to ignore people calling me and my friends names? I'm sorry, I won't do that, nor would I have let anyone call you names without questioning why and saying it's not a nice thing to do.
Comment has been collapsed.
now now... don't act like a peasant and stop altering reality but making stuff up to fuel the fire.
i never referred in a negative way to K or rachel. don't create stuff from thin air to make me look more evil than i am (i'm a baddy!). i specifically said you, chicken and 90% of baa (the ones offended will be the real phonies) are phonies.
i also mentioned someone who's exploiting dev keys, which is something i really hate and no amount of excuses will make me agree with that practice on sg.
you keep trying to make me look bad, and in return you show everyone what a drama-queen you are.
read a message that wasn't for you, had the cheek to complain, act offended, get me kicked out of a group, and now you hunt me on the public forums to make me feel guilty.
feels like a got the complete sg-drama-bundle package on 90% discount!
Comment has been collapsed.
K, Rachel, Chicken, Soul, Yirg were all mentioned by name in the discussion you had, all of them mentioned in a bad light. This is a fact, not a fictional thing.
Also you weren't just saying they were phonies as I've already mentioned. Peoples relationships were mentioned, moron, hypocrite, idiot, racial slurs....all these words were used.
Again, if anyone wants to, they can read it. You went around threads stirring up drama in an even more public place for God knows what reason. I'm not trying to make you feel guilty, I'm trying to stop you spreading lies. You created the drama, I tried to approach you privately, you then posted even more drama over here.
You are creating drama all over the place for what reason? Again, I'll offer you the same thing I offered at the start of this, if you want to keep this private, then feel free to talk to me on steam. I have no desire to keep talking about this in private no matter how much you love the attention.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well how can I check when most the comments are getting deleted?
If you ctrl + f and type the following names you mentioned in the thread, some of the names still come up.
You are making up things, STILL, even though there is written documented proof of the conversations that took place. You and Tzaar both engaged in a shit talking discussion about everyone named. From K being an "emo" to Rachel being "a phony".
Comment has been collapsed.
tzaar deleted his comments about his personal life, something no one should be checking in old giveaways on my profile.
but of course, they are public so it's fine to check everything and get offended because you found something you didn't like there.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah sure, just so happens that all his personal life comments(which haven't all been deleted) included the most damning comments about other people.
I didn't check your comments, I got directed to it because it included a lot of inflammatory remarks about myself and a lot of other people. A lot of people had already seen it before I had, I just happened to be the one that decided enough was enough with your bullshit.
I'm sick of seeing you constantly picking fights with everyone around here. You act like you can do and say what you want with absolutely no repercussions, the FIRST time someone has stood up and told you, you are wrong, you've blown up all over the forums about it. You've cried wolf and still continue to drag this through the mud.
Whatever your issues are, I sympathise, I really do. It does NOT give you the right to take it out on everyone here, especially people who have done nothing but give to this community.

Sorry for just yapping into the whole stuff, but after the elementary school level of the cussing-filled arguement you currently have with T. , I would reconsider the part about hateful comments. Both of you act incredibly childish and just equally bad.

I came here because I was heavily harassed on the previous gaming community I frequented. Admins did nothing even though I was getting death threats so I left it even though I was quite attached to that website as it helped me meet some incredible people. I did giveaways from time to time on that website so I had to find a new place to host my giveaways. Then I stumbled upon SG. I'm glad I did but after my talk with some of the older members from here it looks like I have missed the best days and found extensive drama instead :(

no GA here
wall of text incoming, sorry :(
i joined the site to leech free games (duh). like a lot of users. started giving extra bundle copies of games i didn't want, then of games i already had.
i remember sgv1. but no strong attachments to it, as i wasn't long enough there (a few months).
last year i stopped entering most GA, except wishlisted ones (reduced the wishlist to 50~ games, which is already 100 again, bummer).
a few months ago i almost stopped coming here. too many fights and drama. (indeed for a whole month i only entered GA, no forum posts or else).
now i'm doing either a medium lvl GA (4-5-6) or low lvl forum GA (2). some puzzles no hard ones.
the most important thing is that i've never used any specific rules and last week i stopped entering GA with "Rules".
i still do group GA, but my whitelist and blacklist are both empty (sorry for the 300+ people who got -1 a while back, still think you are great).
so, what is the point of this thread. i'm guessing just to remind you all (and me) that we are all humans. this place is for giving. giving should be made without any conditions, otherwise it is not giving (imo anyway). the site has its main system for rewarding excessive giving (the level system) and i think that should be enough.
before you jump, yes rule breakers should be punished. but once, not repeatedly. multiple offenses should be punished more severely. you might argue that the current 3-day suspension, or even a month suspension is not enough, but that is beside the point, and for another discussion.
do you honestly believe people can't make mistakes? i believe this place is better then that. and i hope to continue enjoying your company of amazing people. and too meet new ones ofcourse :)
done.
no GA here as well check my profile if you don't believe me
yirg donated a GA :-)
