Alright but we're talking papers here and he's lived his whole life in France. He is French. And he has French parents, even though they were born in other countries. So I'm not really sure where that all comes from.

You can't work for goverment or vote, unless you have a nationality. Also, you can't play for french national team. There are shit ton of big N companies where you can't work, unless you have a nationality (Thales, Safran, Dassault, Airbus).

I know, and you can't run for office either but since we were speaking about Mbappé and he does have the French nationality, having been born here from parents who asked for it after they immigrated, I just don't know why that was brought up like he somehow moved to France 2 years ago and got his citizenship just to play in the national team.

Indeed, although the process is easier if you're a Euro. Interestingly, there's also a sort of Einstein visa that allows you to gain nationality if you have "exceptional talent and skills" that may "serve France" so I guess that's called the "footballer visa" here ;)
