Just wondering, tbh. I started being a little bit more active on SG these last few weeks and was surprised that I got blacklisted twice yesterday/today.

I usually blacklist only scammers (only have 2 people on BL), so I was curious about which other reasons you would blacklist someone.

My most important reason for joining my blacklist is if someone wins a game from me and then i see him/her online everyday but not activating the game. This really pisses me off.

Then of course if someone doesn't say thanks (applies to old accounts that know what this site is) gets in the list as well.
Also i never remove people from my blacklist (except in very rare occasions). There is a reason someone is in there.

Edit: i got 5 blacklists since the community train started. Probably people that found out they are missing a chance to win a good game.

Hi Elias! I have my computer always on with the steam gifts tab open. Doesn't mean I'm "online" in fact I just leave some pages opens if I'm in the middle of a train, or to remember the giveaways which I don't have the points right now to enter.
You have all the right to be pissed of with whatever you want. Just trying to let you know, that for some cases, online, doesn't mean "online"

Yes, i should have clarified that i mean people that i see them coming and going. If someone won a game 2 days ago for example and seems to have been online 7 hours ago then this smells fishy to me .
Thanks for your answer, there might be users in the same state as you and you gave me the opportunity to explain.

Hey mate, good to know why I'm on your blacklist.

May I ask what do you think is happening there? Like if the person logs in but doesn't redeem immediately, what do you think is the reason? Thanks.

It shows me a person that doesn't care and this site is all about the opposite.

I have about 110 users in my BL and i have given away 466 games. That's about 20% of the winners and i hate dealing with it especially if you consider that these are gifts given for free. I don't want to be the one having to send messages and emails and having to proof that i did that to the support so that i can get a reroll for example.

As for you, you can understand that i am not capable of knowing what exactly happened but you won a game on the 20th and received on the 27th. And if someone checks your won giveaways you haven't even said "thank you" to some of them.
Again, i might be wrong about you but i can't possibly know what really happens. If you can explain i am more than happy to remove you.

Nah, that's okay, keep it like that. You're not the first or last to blacklist me for not redeeming right away. I was just wondering why is it an issue for people and I understand to some extend. I definitely won't argue with your decision, because it's your decision not mine. But I guess it's only fair to show you the other side of the coin...

I of course can't recall what was the exact reason in your case but it's usually one of two things:

  1. I'm busy and/or tired
During the week my mind is usually preoccupied with my job and most of the time I just leave all the other stuff for weekend or any day off. I know it sounds silly, but sometimes I'm too tired or stressed out I lack energy to do even such simple thing as redeeming a game. I buy bundles of games and I don't redeem them, I just leave the reedem page open and deal with it later. This is mostly due to the process that accompanies every purchase. It's not just redeeming, I categorize them in my library, I add them to my backloggery and I update my database of unused keys. While this is a task for few minutes, when you buy in bundles it takes some time, so I leave it to upcoming free day in order to do it all in one sitting. And I do that with SG winnings as well, because I don't feel pressured to redeem immediately as SG rule is to redeem to game within 14 days. I do try to do it within days because I know that for somebody it can mean leveling up but most of the time it does take few days.

  2. I forgot
I receive an e-mail while I'm at work and when I turn-on the PC at home I already forgot about it. Also as someone pointed out here, me being 'online' doesn't really mean I'm on SG. It just means my browser is turned on as SG is one of my pinned sites.

I guess you could interpret my reasons as not caring about the site and while I do believe I care about this site, to be perfectly honest, it isn't anywhere near my top priorities during the day so I guess you are right. I come here to give away spare keys and win some and I would like to do both without extra hustle, I have enough shit to deal with in my life... just like you said, you don't want to be the one having to send messages and emails. I agree 100%! But I don't think you really have to.

As for the 'thank you' inspection you made on my account, you must've seen that I write it most of the time. Since I don't want to use a script to thank people I can, unlike a script, forget. But that doesn't mean I'm not grateful for people's gifts and giveaways.

Anyways thank you for the insight, I will try to keep this in mind and be better. I don't care for being blacklisted, but I don't want to be the reason for someone's negative experience here. It would be nice if I could apologize to the people that blacklisted me for this reason as you did but it's kind of hard to communicate with people on SG since there's no real messaging feature and when someone blacklists you, you basically lose the only option to communicate internally. So I'm glad I ran into you here. Cheers!

Good written text that explain much in/to your case.
One little detail is wrong. You don't have 14 days to activate your win. You have "only" 7 days.

And please take a look at the fact that a high percentage of the users that are often online at steam and sg, each day but don't take the wins, don't react at communication tries and don't react in some other way before 4-7 days are over are autojoiner users.
If you give a lot of games away you stumble, often, in the same type of users, with nearly identical "habits", lets call them often "clones".
So in the end, the bot owners check each 4-7 days what they have won and react at the won GA's.
It's very obvious in many cases.

So i think a lot of the users that gave/give a lot are sensitive with people don't reacting many days but are online and still enter wins because their bad experiences say them "a lof of that guys are autojoiner users and a cheater gets rewarded with a game/win/key".

That don't mean it is ok to throw all "late activater" in that bowl but it explains it maybe better for you and other ones.

I use my blacklist VERY moderately. It's a spot reserved for the worse of the worse, when your actions are so rude, disrespectful, mean-spirited, or malicious that I truly do not want to have anything to do with you.

I'll never blacklist for ratio, giveaways quality/quantity, or opinions because that would be both a waste of time and pretty petty if you ask me. Even having a poor attitude isn't a concern as long as you generally remain respectful towards others and the community here.

To put it in perspective, I have blacklisted 28 people after 7 years here (I used to maintain a blacklist before SG officially had that feature). Be be fair though, I did nearly entirely empty it at some point and started over because I felt I was blacklisting people too liberally.

First group would be those using autojoiners, leaking invite only giveaway links and entering using leaked links. If you don't have access its for a reason.

Second group is those who dehumanise groups of people, not being limited to gender, race, religion or sexual oreintation. Its not productive and is something I find to be reprehensible.

Third group is those who exploit their positions on this site.

I blacklist those that blacklisted me just so I know who it was but that's about it, I don't blacklist anyone I disagree with or anyone who made "mistakes" like giving away their wins, ... those I just report and move on.
And I'm not mad when I get blacklisted, I barely enter giveaways anyway (though it's also been some time since I created one....)

When I think of someone to be a game hoarder, so I don't want to be the guy who help them to get the +1 in their library, people with bad ratio (100+ more wons than gives), or just those, who dont even say a simple thanks after they activate their gifts (i consider it a rude behaviour).

Reasons why I blacklist:

  1. Racist or homophobic comments. Also if the person is rude in general.
  2. Breaking the rules.
  3. Scammers
  4. Leechers

Don't really have a hard set of rules -- despite the names "whitelist" and "blacklist", I think it is rare for situations to be "black" and "white". I think in shades of gray and prefer it to be a judgement call on a case-by-case basis. For me, it is less of an "I don't want them in my GA's" thought process so much as an "I don't want anything from this person" thought process (yes, BL's work both ways).

Probably blatant rudeness is the #1 infraction for me BL'ing someone. Acting like you are morally superior is #2. I don't mind bad language whatsoever. And I am politically independent so I am willing to hear someone out on their viewpoints without blacklisting them even if they differ from my own. If I feel they were being assholes / narrow-minded / sanctimonious then I might BL. But it really depends on intent, degree, and situation; there is no one-size-fits-all.

I have loved ones with high-functioning autism (aspergers) so that has somewhat taught me to stop and re-consider something that was said not just as it sounds but then also in terms of what the other person might really mean instead of immediately reacting. I'm not perfect at it but getting better. But I wish more people would try to do this first before moving onto the "assume the worst, call them [insert negative] label, and dismiss/insult/ostracize" phases.

I don't usually blacklist people and I only 93 people on mine, and I'm here for 7 years. For example I blacklist people who's been here for a long time and took a lot more than they gave (you can use the term 'leecher'), if I inspect their profiles somehow, so most of them I find usually the ones who won one of my giveaways. :)

I also blacklist VAC bans if I chance upon (not much for now though).

People are using blacklist as a "warn". For me it's thug feature.
I block people who are incredibly annoying, they don't want to be okay, they only mean harm and hate others.
When I say something people don't agree, sometimes I check if I got blacklisted. And I don't fail to be amused that I actually DO got a blacklist, because I dared to have different opinion. They even say it's okay that You blacklist people because of such trivial reason.
For me blacklisting people should be double edge. Some troll blacklist You, but they lost ability to enter Your giveaways as well. Maybe some people would not abuse this system that way.

Bigotry is my main hot button, so whether you're being racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, bashing people because of their religion, etc., that'll usually get you a blacklist. To clarify this, there is a difference between ignorance and willful ignorance; sometimes, you just don't know, and I'm not going to fault you for that, but if it's clear that you know the difference and just don't care, that's when I'll blacklist you. That and things like making rape jokes, especially if you're going to call it a "social experiment" after the fact like, "Oh, now you're the asshole!" I do my best to educate, and if you're not willing to be educated, then I'll just move on; you usually don't get anywhere by actively fighting with people, and that just gets you mad and stressed out, so it's rarely worth the hassle.

  • idiots: broad definition (from rude behavior to racism or similar bigotry)
  • sg-poor™: aka selfish (example: those with a rtx 2080 and 2k games but are too poor top drop some bundles in public giveaways; people finding money magically on steam sales then buying everything for themselves)
  • revenge-blacklist: just returning the favor ^^

I haven't blacklisted anyone yet.
The only reason I would is if they either don't mark something as received and don't bother to reply why they can't receive it, or cause some massive drama.

I'm pretty easy at giving whitelists though - people with good stats, regulars on blaeo, people participating in PAGYWOSG and people I notice that play their games (whether that's beaten/completed wins or just a generally high achievement percentage of their games owned).

I'd rather reward people then exclude if possible!

I blacklist people mostly for extremely negative ratio for leeching on others, lot inactivated wins, then I sometimes check my ex winners if they really played game won from me, if they idled it, they are welcome on my blacklist. Also I do not like people who never say thank you, for me it is rude when they get free game. One (resp. two) I have blacklisted for having two sg accounts. And the rest were people from discussions when they wrote some agressive comment, unfortunately I do not later remember what it was about :D and recently I started blacklist also people who never played single game, but leech in small groups where we are together.

However, I also whitelist people who really play games from me, unfortunately these are a lot lower, from my 132 successfully delivered wins I whitelisted two winners, which spend some nice time with games and haven't let it take dust, idled or unlocked all by SAM for statistics. I recently started to do even some nice unbundled games to award such people, cause they haven't waste money I spent for give them a game.

Honestly lot of reasons but ill name a few:

Winning absurd amounts but giving nothing.
Being a grammer/spelling nazi despite clearly understanding the sentence(If it were towards me or someone else, english is not my native language).
Having been marked on steam rep.
VAC banned cuz cheaters suck.
That one ninja that blacklists out of nowhere soo i just blacklist them back.
Criticizing someone that received more than what he gave(Ain't this the point of this site? giveaways?!?)
Starting an argument about something which they don't know about and attacking whoever replies
Attempting to scam(be it on steam trades or other sites etc)
And my favorite is someone that leaks an Sgtools link to a giveaway just because he was blacklisted or doesn't qualify to enter a GA. Those are the worst

I've only blacklisted one person I think, the first game I won and I'm yet to receive 2 years later. (any explanation would have sufficed).

Most of my blacklists seem to be from sharing my views. Its amusing how many people still don't know what the button is actually for...or how to agree-to-disagree. Oh well.
Its also amusing how many people expect thank-you's for doing what they should be doing. No one begged you to make a give-away. So why do you expect a pat on the back...oh yes it makes you feel batter.

So on behalf of everyone who ever forgot...THANK YOU!!! (you may now proceed to un-blacklist them)
