fallout 3 and fallout new vegas come to my mind. both are amazing games. witcher 1 and 2 are also very good, the battle system is kind of meh (imo) but other than that it is pretty good.
and i honestly dont think that you can get an honest opinion of cod ghosts.. most of the time its the usual trashtalk, ill try not to make it look as shit.
the story itself was actually very good (better than black ops 2 in my opinion), its kinda short but thats expected (5 - 7 hours). i didnt really get into extinction mode too much because i was playing solo almost all the time but this mode is surprisingly good. i didnt like zombies and wasnt expecting to like this alien crap either but it is fun, especially with other people. imo the only issue the game had/has is the mp, at least on pc. you obviously have to get used to everything like maps, guns and what not, a hell of a change if you compare it to blops 2. youd get killed pretty fast because weapons kill you way faster than in black ops 2 or mw3. thats what people pissed off at the very beginning of this game but it is what it is.. i personally had no bigger problems with the game EXCEPT for those goddamn hackers. idk if the devs dont care about pc or if theyre just lazy, but mp is (or was, didnt play it for months) a hackfest. youd think they learned from mw3 or 2 (or atleast be as anticipated as black ops 2) but nope, still infested.
this game is not worth the full price, no way. but you can get it for like 15 euros (on g2a, dispenser, etc) which is not too bad i guess..

Tomb Raider 2013, most definitely.
I'm expecting lots of disagreements on my suggestion, but in my opinion, Tomb Raider 2013 is a must-play.

Oh, and Skyrim is somewhat this. It's a terrifically immersive game.

Cod:Ghosts is stupid in any aspect .......
there are good ideas but all screwed up......(imo one of the best ideas was decreasing health in core multiplayer)
if your looking for an epic COD go for mw2 or BO 1-2.....
The Secret World really deserve a shot too im amazed about how good is that game....
if your not limiting your self on PC go for The Last of Us Remastered(or the original one it has a great multiplayer too)+uncharted series + Heavy rain+Beyond :TS+Infamous SS is a really good game but Under rated IMO AND Shadow of colossus +(ico maybe)....
i dont know if you like it but Divinity : Original Sin was Really Epic imo...

I'm looking for something EPIC. The Ben Hur of games.
I want scope, and I want depth.
I want to soar the skies, climb mountains, slalom through buildings, and destroy behemoths.
I want to tackle philosophical issues, change the world.
I want to see the world flourish, I want to see it burn down.
I want exceptional writing, beautiful music scores, and stunning scenery.
Basically, I want a game that got lots and lots of money thrown at it, but managed to not suck.
I would have been interested in CoD: Ghosts, with its really world-spanning story, but it's getting panned on Steam reviews, and I'm not willing to risk that much money on a mediocre game.
So anyone?
Edit: Thanks for these suggestions! Mass Effect is probably one of the most 'epic' game out there. I should try that someday when I get the chance. I'm also getting lots of great games that aren't necessarily 'epic'. Although CoD: Ghosts might be shallow, it looks like it's got some breadth, so I personally consider it as an 'epic', if not in quality, then at least in quantity. But it's personal opinion, and I can't really be bothered to argue linguistics on the internet. It never ends well.
