Would you hold off on building a PC?

I am merely waiting for my check to clear at the bank(tomorrow), I then will buy all the parts at newegg for a grand total of $989(would've been ~1100 if I didn't do the shoprunner trial), and there is $40 in mail in rebates I can do

My current PC is showing signals of aging but I'm trying to make it last for AT LEAST a year... I agree that there is a bit of a leap in PC hardware after a new console is launched but this is usually tied to new Directx IMHO. Anyway if you already have $1.200 in a year you'll have enough for a kick ass PC. More then I'm willing to pay, actually...

I were you (which I'm not) I'd wait till Q4 2014, but a kick ass PC, a couple of AAA games and with the remaining money treat my GF to a nice weekend to justify the following weeks of absence (due to excessive gaming). That way she wins, you win, everyone wins!

At the same price of GTX 670 you can get an RADEON 7970, that is A WAY better!!!! equally to GTX 680 and sometimes even faster and have 1gb more of vRAM.

Buy intel (i5 or i7 in 1155), and dont buy a high end graphics card, it doesnt worth (and never, NEVER, oc version).
Ah! It MUST be Nvidia :)

I would wait another 9-12 months, for any big upgrades. If you were upgrading just the GPU or CPU, I would say go ahead (if the upgrade wasn't worth more than 200$), but, at the moment, it's best to wait for new console generation to arrive, which will bring lower hardware prices and enable you to be without worry for the next 3-4 years. However, the answer also depends on what you current PC spec's are, and what games are you primarily interested in playing. In the meantime, if you are too sick of your current PC, try doing smaller upgrades for half the price (600$ max.), or buy second hand with a warranty.

Halfway this year the new Intel CPU should come out, the Haswell. I would wait for this and then get that. With that you will easily be able to last the next 4 years.

There's always new parts coming out and prices dropping. A major rule of PC building is to never wait. You can't future proof PCs.

Build now or wait another 2-3 years. The 3rd Generation is out and it's well worth the upgrade, you won't need must more juice in gaming for a while. Zero lag, maximum resolution of all games.

I would say wait till july when there's some big sales going on, mostly to make room for new inventory you'll be able to get much better hardware by then and we're expecting significant price drops on SSD's by then anyway and with a high mid range budget like that you'll want to go for an ssd

I'd build now. There's always going to be new components coming out, I wondered the same but I went with an i5 + GTX 670 build and don't regret it, you'll still be playing at max for a while and by then you'll probably want to upgrade anyway and can afford to.
