Best book for me is Tolkiens`s -> "Lord of the Rings".
I can recommend you also Stanislaw Lem books ("His Master's Voice" is one of his best for me).
If you`re intrested in II WW times I recommend you "Zośka i Parasol" by Aleksander Kamiński.
"The Reality Dysfunction" (s-f) is also quite fun to read.

I liked the Death of Ivan Illich better.

The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. Its urban fantasy, but they are great. As some other people said, The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss. The Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson has a unique and interesting take on magic. Elantris and The Way of Kings by Sanderson are good as well. The Otherland series by Tad Williams. The Gentleman Bastard Sequence by Scott Lynch is great, would be better if he released them faster though.

World War Z by Max Brooks may be the closest to the genres you like, that i could recommand.

It was supposed to be a list of fantasy/sci-fi books, not the list of high school obligatory readings ! :) BTW. A guy isn't polish so those are useless anyways.

I've been mindbogglingly bored for the last couple months or so. I haven't had much drive to play games, and I've read every book, manga, and comic that I own.
Whenever I go shopping for new books, I tend to ask various other customers what they like so I can get an idea of what new books/series to try since, in my opinion, that's one of the best ways to expand your library. Sometimes I'll come across a movie that I enjoy and look to see if it was based on a book. A book I ordered a couple days ago, for example, is one that I looked into simply because my niece showed me a cartoon that was based from it that I very much enjoyed.
So here I am peeps, tell me, what's something I should read? I typically stay in the Fantasy Genre, but I do enjoy straying into Science Fiction and Mystery from time to time.
EDIT:
If it's not too much trouble, could I also get some recommendations for some good young readers books? My niece loves reading but I'm afraid I have very little age appropriate material.
