Gotta be "The Ultimate Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" by Douglas Adams.
I won't spoil it for you, but the answer is 42.

Try reading Orcs by Stan Nicholls. I love this book! Also you've probably read it but i was amazed at how much i loved The Hobbit and i will be starting it soon :3. I'm sorry, but i don't know any book for kids, i usually read books that are like Orcs (and that is totaly not for kids XD).

Not sure if these were recommended but if so here they are again.
The wheel of time - just finished the final book. Fantastic series.
The sword of truth - 9 books long and one of my faves.
The unremembered - first book came out a little while ago and I enjoyed it.
The walking dead novels - first 2 books are out right now

Ever read Wheel of time? its very good, a bit old now, and the original author of the series died, I believe his son is finishing his work? Caan't remember exactly. Will take you weeks or months to finish.
For something lighter, try Atermis Fowl, or the authors other book (cant rmember the name right now) with supernatural creatures in the description - they were blue and the main characters an orphan, if it helps.

Brandon Sanderson finished the series, he isn't Robert Jordan's son.
A word of warning about WoT: The books can drag on and on. Most agree that the first 3 or so books are the high point of the series. Honestly, I didn't mind the length. What bothered me the most was how much the character relationships resemble a teen drama. Other than that, and the author's thing for having very descriptive environments, it's an interesting series.

the Skulduggery Pleasant series (6 or 7 books already) from Derek Landy.
it's fantasy with a lot of humor and the earlier books are also for younger readers I think. about Harry Potter level.
the heroine is a 12 year old girl in the first book, so if your niece is around that age she'll love it too.

Been personally reading Romance of the Three Kingdoms, but I have read several great Light Novels.
Non-Animeish novels that I've liked:
Can't think of anything else right now... but I have read quite a bit of books :P

I like these you.decide-yourself books. Don't know how they are called out of here, but in Germany they are named "Die Welt der 1000 Gefahren" (The World of 1000 dangers) or "Die Welt der 1000 Abenteuer" ( The World of the 1000 Adventures)

Blindsight by Peter Watts if you looking for extra hard SciFi.

It's one of those books nearly everyone read already ^^, but I too think it's a good book ;)

2034 is fairly bad.
2033 is an enjoyable book though.

I've been mindbogglingly bored for the last couple months or so. I haven't had much drive to play games, and I've read every book, manga, and comic that I own.
Whenever I go shopping for new books, I tend to ask various other customers what they like so I can get an idea of what new books/series to try since, in my opinion, that's one of the best ways to expand your library. Sometimes I'll come across a movie that I enjoy and look to see if it was based on a book. A book I ordered a couple days ago, for example, is one that I looked into simply because my niece showed me a cartoon that was based from it that I very much enjoyed.
So here I am peeps, tell me, what's something I should read? I typically stay in the Fantasy Genre, but I do enjoy straying into Science Fiction and Mystery from time to time.
EDIT:
If it's not too much trouble, could I also get some recommendations for some good young readers books? My niece loves reading but I'm afraid I have very little age appropriate material.
