The last stealth game I played was "Styx", and I really liked it. I saw you have it in your inventory, so you already know that this game is great !
I'd say that I tried every approachs (assassin, undetected, 0 kill, run like a mad dog between the guards... etc ^^) in the first 2 levels, and after that I only tried to be undetected each time.

Styx is a masterful stealth game except for some problems with the controls. I absolutely love how old school it is. I only ever used invisibility once and that was for the "tutorial" part. It felt like cheating to me :P I finished Styx 3 times to get full achievement completion. I can confirm that the coins were too much work :P

A bit of everything, although one of my main "traits" is being very cautious and observing carefully before every move. I also stick to ranged weapons when available.

Hoarder/Ranged/Passive/Achievement Whore/Completionist/Derp
Hoarder: I like to collect one of everything and I hate using consumables because if I use something up I'll never be able to use it again later.
Ranged: Being up close and personal in any RPG will probably require a lot of potions, so that conflicts entirely with Hoarder. Snipers preferred.
Passive: Stall until the opponent screws up, then use that to my advantage. This gets a lot of teammates angry in Rocket League though.
Achievement Whore: Self-explanatory.
Completionist: Gather all the treasures! Leave no corner unexplored!
Derp: I don't really take anything seriously, so I will often do really stupid things. If you're standing in front of an explosive barrel and I see it. I'm going to shoot the barrel.

I always try to goof around with the AI in games, see how they'll react to various things and see if I can cheese them out. MGSV was basically a complete playground for me because of this. You can just make complete fools out of the enemy soldiers in super goofy ways.

I'd recommend you to play Shadwen. It's another stealth game and you can't do any combat stuff as detection fails the mission but you can kill if you like. AI is totally hilarious in that game :D Shadwen was the first stealth game that ever made me laugh like mad :)

I sometimes try ghosting but it rarely works out to its fullest. Usually, it just ends in a fest of non-lethal takedowns. I generally despise killing enemies in stealth games (mostly thanks to The Sorrow from MGS3) and try avoiding it as much as I can, but sometimes it has to be done whether it be for plot reasons or because of me messing up horribly IiviI
I don't play that much FPS games and if I do, there're purely SP titles (like Wolfenstein lately) so I don't have that much experince with them, but I'll choose a semi-auto over a revolver/pistol any day. :p
And in the case of hack'n'slash titles I do love to play them fast and aggressively. :D That's why I absolutely adore things like MGR, KiD and DMC3. Sadly, I'm not particularly fond of those h'n's where your character is a big, beefy dude who just mowes down his enemies, like in any GoW-like game. It just kills all the "finesse" of the combat for me.

Hehe, I could have written a 2000 word (or more) article on this but I decided to stick to one genre only as it was my main passion. I also wanted to avoid a very huge post that might have put off people from reading. I encourage everyone else to include as many info as they can possibly think of, though :D I'm seriously enjoying reading these replies ;) Thanks for the bump ^^

Alright, I'll start from the very originals:D Splinter Cell, Hitman, Thief, Commandos, Metal Gear Solid.
Let's look at relatively recent ones, again anything Hitman (especially Blood Money), more Splinter Cell, Death to Spies, Death to Spies: Moment of Truth.
Now we move on to the more recent games. Alien Isolation, Deus Ex Human Revolution, Dishonored, Alekhine's Gun, the latest Hitman, Thief (which I found surprisingly okay despite the harsh criticisms), Splinter Cell Blacklist, Volume, Mark of the Ninja, Metal Gear Solid Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes, Shadwen. Also Sneaky Sneaky is a cute little stealth game too and it's also very cheap.
Special mention: Styx Master of Shadows. This is a special mention because it's the only recent stealth game that does not give you an easy way out with combat if you get stuck. If you can't stealth, you can't finish Styx simple as that. That's why that game is so awesome! :D I hope I didn't miss anything.
There are some newer ones I didn't get a chance to play yet, for example Ghost of a Tale. I know of Gunpoint, Marvelous Miss Take, Invisible Inc but I haven't played these yet. I played Spy Chameleon RGB Agent but it was terrible, I wouldn't recommend it.

You have to replay Styx at least twice if you care about getting 100% achievements. Other than that the only replayability would be trying out harder difficulties. Story is linear and fixed. There is only one ending. Map also doesn't change much, for example for the sake of argument chapter 1 and 4 will take place on the very same map (I don't remember which chapters exactly so I randomly picked numbers).
If you only care about experiencing the story, there is nothing else to do after your first playthrough. The game has some problems with controls, for example it's a bit annoying to make Styx hang from a ledge when you have to quickly hide but apart from that it's awesome. Only buy Styx if lack of combat will not deter you. You can kill but only stealthily. Getting detected will get you killed if you do not hide fast enough because Styx dies in 1-2 hit.
My personal opinion is that it's fully worth that price tag. But please bear in mind that it requires very old school stealth, so it's a niche pick.

Aww thank you :) I whitelisted you long ago :P
I was actually around level 3.15 but I dropped to 2.87 about 5 days ago and my last giveaway raised it to 2.95 only :'( I'm still relatively new so hopefully I'll reach those higher levels with determination :)

It really depends, games like Dragon age I always have a thing of playing as an Elven mage, and if I can't I'll just go for mage.I usually go with a party of another mage, a rogue and a heavy :P
In Mass Effect I changed it up a bit and chose a different classes for each game.
Dark Souls is very varying, I get bored and change it once in a while, the first Dark Souls I played as a tank with a Silver Knight Straight Sword (though my second play through I'm using the Great scythe which is amazing). And DS2 was the most different, I just kept changing it for fashion souls, and my weapon where I always use a fast one decided to go for a ridiculously slow and heavy weapon for the fun, loving it so far, also decided on no magic this time because magic in DS2 feels a bit OP.
In DS3, I fashion souls with many different weapons, the current one being a straight sword and a great sword
As for FPS, if given the option of stealth then I'll take it. And if I keep dying I saw eff it and go melee only to see how far I can go, works for Insurgency ^^
For a no kill thing, it depends, if killing has majour consequences on the world then I won't, like in Dishonored, a full no kill play through apart from this one glitch the with old lady T_T. Same with MGSVTPP to an extent, I try not to kill anyone ^^
Can't wait for Dishonored 2 as well ^^
I could go on and on and start with Civilization, bioshock, Monster Hunter etc. but now I'm lazy I just wanted to mention dark souls so badly ^^, sorry for my grammar, have a nice day ^^

There is nothing to be sorry about. Thanks a lot for your reply, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it :) In hack and slash games I like playing ranged classes, either mage or some kind of a hunter. In RPGs it greatly depends on a lot of things. But I generally try to get a taste of all classes :D

Thank you ^^, I can't remember a hack and slash game immediately a pure one without RPG elements that have a range class tbh, which hack and slash game did you have in mind? I just really love mages, not really sure why, but its mostly in the Dragon Age universe I just have to play as a mage first then I'll explore the other races and classes, though I only replayed Inquisition. In Dark Souls, I don't play as a mage, mostly because its so much fun with melee, though I do use weapon buff magic. ^^
Oh yes I did want to ask one thing, you mentioned you love stealth, if you get caught do you go loud or do you restart the mission? ^^
Comment has been collapsed.
Hack / Slash and RPG go hand in hand so yea I understand what you mean. When I say hack and slash I mean games like Diablo, Torchlight, Sacred, Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing etc. As for RPG I mean games like Dragon Age Inquisition, Skyrim, Witcher, Shadow of Mordor etc.
When I play mentioned hack and slash games, I always pick a ranged. In Diablo 3 my main was a Wizard but then I fell in love with Demon Hunters (ranged). In World of Warcraft (MMORPG) my main was a Warrior, then I rerolled a Mage, now my main is Death Knight (melee) and soon I'll main a Demon Hunter (also melee). So I guess I generally favour melee classes in RPGs whereas I go for ranged in hack and slash RPGs.
I am known to restart the chapter just cause I made some tiny noise and some guard in the next room said "What was that?" or "I heard something" etc.
Above is an excerpt from my post. It should answer your last question :) If someone is suspicious from even a tiny noise, I'll restart it. It doesn't matter if he can't find me or won't raise the alarm. Causing that suspicion is unacceptable to me :D

I sadly haven't played any of those games T_T, tbh I didn't even know Hack and Slash had range in them till now ^^.
Oh but that's good ^^ in a sense I do the opposite and always go mage in RPG (with the exception of DS) and melee in H&S. For MMOs I also mix it up like in Guild Wars my main is a mesmer, my second is an engineer and my third main is a melee-magic character ^^ (ya they're all mains... my mesmer is the main main...)
Also wow on the 87% game completion :O That's the highest I've ever seen before ^^
Oops sorry, I think I missed that part ^^ I actually just go loud but since I'm not equipped for it I usually just lose... except in dishonored, I save load because I wanted the good ending ^^

Unfortunately I never played any Dark Soul games. I don't think I would be able to. I mean eventually I would manage to complete them because I learn fast and I just need to stick with the strategy to improve but I don't have that patience when it comes to action. I raided insanely hardcore when I was 14 in classic WoW but after reaching 18-19 years of age I just became quite casual for any genre other than stealth. As for classes; mixing it up is the best I believe. If you find yourself getting bored of one class, you can change it. Having multiple mains like you mentioned also helps a lot here.
My worst stealth story happened to me in Deus Ex Human Revolution. All my friends kept recommending it to me so I bought it and started playing. I gave augmentation points to hacking cause in order to successfully stealth I had to hack some doors to open them. I didn't even pick any guns or ammo due to my pacifist nature. I finished the chapter 1, or so I thought I did, then there was this boss fight -.- I got super frustrated and had to start over as I had to get guns and ammo. I was playing on hardest difficulty so supplies were low in number, which is why I had to start from the very beginning. None of my friends mentioned any boss fights! :P Dishonored good ending feels great by the way ;) I'm glad you went after it :D
I try to do my best when it comes to achievements :D

Oh Dark Souls lore is amazing ^^ I love the games plus you can co-op them with friends which is a bonus ^^ it takes a while but then you get really into them, try them out if you're ever in the mood for well, a tough game I guess ^^
I raided insanely hardcore when I was 14 in classic
do you mean like a hard difficulty or just a lot? ^^ I've never played WoW, well I did once for like about 2 hours then never played again... I do know in games like Final Fantasy XIV there are difficulties in dungeons.
I actually picked up Deus Ex in the last sale haven't yet tried it ^^, my friend said he fully stealthed it and then a boss fight came and it was stupidly difficult because he had a stealth build so he was fighting them with a silenced pistol, apparently they fixed it now in the Directors cut but before it used to be a really big pain.
I always try for the good ending first ^^

Hardcore raiding as in 4 days per week from 7pm to 12 am, this was more than 10 years ago. Then I tried raiding 2 years ago, I couldn't even deal with 2 days per week for 3 hours. In classic WoW there weren't difficulty options but it was still the hardest in my opinion. They added difficulty options like "heroic" and "mythic" in following expansions.
Deus Ex is pretty awesome, except boss fights. I'm glad Mankind Divided will allow pacifist options to deal with bosses :D

I don't think I've been that committed to any game :o hmm I guess the expansion packs came out earlier so it wasn't exactly classic anymore?
Oh that's awesome ^^, I actually got Human Revolution because I really wanted to play Mankind Divided ^^ now I can go full pacifist :D

You really ARE a purist, wow! :o
Like others, my play style changes depending on the genre.
I love stealth in my action games, my favorites being Tomb Raider 2013 and the Batman games. Any chance I get, I do silent takedowns. I will redo a scene just to make sure that I get as few people as possible to notice me before it's unavoidable.
For just about every genre, I prefer as much story as possible, and I don't mind doing a lot of reading to get it. I am absolutely a completionist, so I'll do whatever it takes to get 100%... Unless I am physically incapable of pulling it off (such as finishing all of the timing-based Riddler puzzles in Arkham City.) I do love platformers, though, and for the most part, they're not story-heavy (The Swapper and Ori and the Blind Forest being exceptions.)
More later if I remember! Must run!

Stealthing in both Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider feels pretty great but also unfinished as it can't be done 100% Same story for Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light, they have some stealth chapters but it's generally FPS and it can't be fully ghosted. They are all pretty great games.
I don't like platformers at all but you mentioned one of my favourite ones: The Swapper. Absolutely brilliant game. Ori was too hard for me as I am not a platformer veteran. The only platformer I played intensely was Rayman but I was like 8-9 years old at the time :D
I can't wait to read more from you later :D

If there's a stealthy option or a knockout instead of a kill, I'll take it.
If there's an opportunity to explore off-the-beaten-path nooks and crannies, I'll take it.
If there's a sniper rifle or a bow of any kind, I'll take it.
If there's a chance to melee in multiplayer, I'll take it.
Wow, all that taking makes me sound greedy. :P

Ah, now it makes sense! I had no idea that the sniper rifles in that game have massive bayonet blades on them, as seen in the first pic. I thought you were just smacking people with the butt of the stock, or worse, clubbing people with the gun barrel (as one might swing the gun in the second pic, only without the blade). XD

Cross of the Dutchman looks so cute :O I don't know if you'll ever play it but Sherlock Holmes The Devil's Daughter has 2 stealth chapters. 1st one is insanely easy but the 2nd one is gonna be pretty frustrating for players who aren't used to it, even though it's actually quite short. But the latter is considered to be a mini game puzzle and all mini game puzzles can be skipped.
As for Dishonored, I'd suggest blinking to the nearest high ground. Or do you have Stop Time ability? Stop Time and Blink should get you out easily. If you have rats, they can also keep enemies busy while you make a run for it. How many runes do you have and which abilities have you unlocked?
Comment has been collapsed.
Yea front door is mainly not an option, it can get overwhelming pretty quickly. There should be alarms nearby too so there are extra enemies to worry about. I suggest reloading an earlier save and mixing up your usual action oriented gameplay with a bit of stealth. I strongly advise you to not quit the game though because it's really worth it to play ;)
Hint: Enter the mansion through windows.

Cross of the Dutchman should be a super easy game to beat. But I can't. There is a level where you must sneak around and past guards to get to a waypoint in under 4 minutes. I tried 11 times. 11 times! Then I swore at the game and never played it again.
Hahahahahahahahaha.. :P Saxon Bastards!
Took me a couple of tries. Other than that the game is way to simple.

I play a lot of games. It would be easier to mention games that I DON'T play: Hidden Object Games, Visual Novels, Telltale stuff and multiplayers of any kind. Other than that, no restrictions, the more the better :)
btw, already own the base game so I won't enter. but thanks for the ga anyway.

I don't tend to play stealth characters, but I'm not against it. In Jagged Alliance 2 I used to always end up with a stealthy character who was pretty good after doing the questionnaire at the start of the game. I tend to be an assault rifle guy in FPS' but a pistol is always vital and often one of the best weapons. Shotguns are always fun too. For RPG's I like rough gritty warrior types. Usually sword or axe and shield. I hate using magic and prefer crossbows over bows. I like to cover the entire map and kill anything that won't mess up the game. I can't play games like borderlands with people who want to rush ahead and miss everything.

i'm openminded, i usually pick a style and stick with it for that game, but can change in games.
i usually start with good alignments, but that is about it :)

Hello everyone. The topic is exactly what the title suggests. I simply want you to share your unique playstyles. I will go first so you'll have a better understanding of what I mean.
I'm a stealth purist at heart. And when I say purist I mean total purism at its finest. I do not do any takedowns, I do not kill, no detection, not raising any suspicion, no alarms. But I don't limit myself here. I add even extra challenges such as not using any items, not using any distractions, not using any abilities, upgrades and so on. I simply do not do anything except avoid everyone through my movements and do what I need to do without leaving a single footprint. I even close the doors that were closed when I started the mission, I do not leave them open. Everything remains exactly the same as I found them. I am known to restart the chapter just cause I made some tiny noise and some guard in the next room said "What was that?" or "I heard something" etc. I always play stealth on hardest difficulty at all times. (I prefer easy/normal on other genres).
So what is your playstyle? For example do you favour a certain weapon when you play FPS? Or do you love blowing up stuff with explosives? Do you like melee or ranged combat? Do you always pick the same class in every RPG game you play? These are just examples off the top of my head. Simply explain how you play the genre you are passionate about. Don't feel the need to stick to one genre only because playstyle changes from game to game. Explain all if you have the time :) I love reading how others play their games!
The GA is for a game that I hold very dear to my heart as it almost gives me every opportunity to play the way I want to play my stealth. Full ghost+pacifist. The only factor that breaks my rules is that it required me to use a specific special ability during certain chapters, it's totally unavoidable. Fortunately the upcoming 2nd game will allow me to refuse special abilities from the start and play without them. I can't wait!
