Your experience with crates?
Loot crates are horrible for me,
Shipping costs always ruin it for me.
But the only "loot crate" I get every month is Humble Bundle Monthly.
And that gives me the fix I need and best of all, no shipping costs involved!.
I do occasionally fund some kickstarter projects
mostly for playing cards.

I've watched a couple:). You have to pick wisely for those, too. Some boxes were really exciting, and then other companies felt like random cookies from a Chinatown dollar store.

I just got myself a loot crate from "lootcrate.com" once (they just had the basic version at that time) and was totally disappointed.
Most of the stuff contained is something you'd get for free when visiting a fair for games and 1-2 of them are items that you'd actually keep. Also shipping costs almost double the price for me and additionally there's a chance the package might get stuck at customs.
If you look for gaming shirts rather have a look at store pages like "qwertee" :)

I would likely never buy a loot crate. One of the youtubers I subscribe (Ashens) to sometimes do unboxings of those (those are among my least favourite of his videos), and while there might be individual objects I would want, it feels like the kind of things that would just end up cluttering up my apartment really fast.
Something like a munchpack I might consider though. Getting a mix of random food items from around the world would be quite fun. It seems like a great way to try new things.

I got loot crate and its awesome. Got a Vault Boy bobble head, t-shirt, rick and morty puzzles, a batman figure etc. I'm afraid it might not be your thing though as it is something that supports the mainstream games. Bethesda etc. You can get previews of what games, movies etc that are inside it. I just think if you go blind it might be a waste of money.
I really wanted to try the Harry Potter one as well along with the anime one. I just don't watch enough anime to make it worth it.

I got the November Harry Potter loot crate for someone as a gift. She's the biggest HP fan, let's hope it contains something cool!
As for anime, I use aliexpress if I want to order a figure. You can find them for like $15 each when it's $50 elsewhere, it's really amazing. But they're mostly for anime, so I wouldn't be able to find most other geeky franchises.

I am semi-addicted to Loot Crates xD But I do not subscribe for long periods of time, I rather pick them in 1 month sub - then unsub - whenever I like franchises and/or spoilered items I will resub. So far I ordered one Geek Fuel (in Sep they had awesome promo that you could order a GF for just S&H costs, ordered it for fiancee, paid 13$ for shipment to Europe and that was it), 7 or 8 Loot Crates and 3 Loot Gaming so far (and I am currently waiting for 2 other Loot Gaming Crates - Demon from October, as I loved all franchises, and Tank from November, as I loved spoilered figuirine and fiancee loved spoilered plushie weapon from Gears, Wolfenstein is great as well, and even if we hate CoD 1 item bad is still a good deal ;p plus there was 31% off promo during Halloween ;p). Loot Crate (aka company, not all nerdy crates in general) are often hit and miss - I've had at least one very dissapointing crate, so I tend to just wait for promos/spoilers/franchises I love rather than subscribing for long time. All in all I'd say Geek Fuel is better than LootCrate value and quality-wise, but problem with GF is they don't even reveal franchises, so you can get awesome stuff from things you dislike.
Anyway as Black Friday is coming consider this: Last Year LC had an awesome Black Friday promo that lasted for few days - each day they would give BIG discount for one kind of crate, and I mean BIG - like up to 50% off, so if you are not really crazy about currently featured franchises and you can wait - wait till 2nd half of Nov for another promo and you may get your crates even cheaper ;)

Yeah the one month thing whenever you like a theme looks like a good way to do it.
Geek Fuel doesn't reveal anything in advance, right? That'd be just too risky for me, as most franchises I'm just meh about. I'll wait for a Loot Crate that I like 3 out of the 4 revealed franchises:)

GF sometimes reveal 1-2 franchises but nothing more. But it's also good to look out fopr spoilers - sometimes some people get box b4 sale ends, so you can even see all items you can get ;) That happened to me recently with loot gaming - I saw all spoilers from august 2017 b4 they stopped selling it and I got myself it as I loved figure (best I've seen from LG) and Wither Wine stopper :)

Investment wise - not always so bad ;) Some separate items, if they are cool enough and exclusive tend to cost on second market more than whole crate itself ;) Recently they by accident sent me two Loot Gaming Crates instead of one and support when contacted told me to keep it (cause cost of sending it back from another continent would make profit turn to loss anyway). The crate among other things contained awesome figure from DA:I (shown in image below) and as I got 2 figures I sold one on ebay. It sold for it 20% more than I paid for the whole crate itself ;p

in general figuirines tends to be jackpot. I never ordered LC DX, but I have a fried who does and he managed to sell most of figures in profit over whole crate. In general there's loads of ppl who collect figures and if sth is good and exclusive they tend to pay ;p

Yeah, I enjoy these two crates. They're awesome!!! As a nerd myself, I like them a lot.

What?! My last FB post about candies was in early June!

Yeah, I just read about Nerd Block :/.
I've watched a lot of unboxings yesterday, and 1up's quality seems really low compared to the other 2, with items like stickers, patches, keychains. Which is unfortunate, because I really liked the franchises they revealed this month.
Geek Fuel items looked kind of middle ground, and Loot Crates were the most varied/interesting.

So if you want to buy one, here is my referr- I'm just kidding.
I am not talking about in-game crates. I am talking about the Loot Crates or similar that are shipped to your house monthly.
That contain collectibles, shirts, figures, etc.
So I've always been interested in them, but never tried.
Yesterday, I read about the Keto food Krate, for the Ketogenic nutrition, something I've been doing for 7 weeks now. I was thrilled, thinking I found the perfect match, and tried ordering one - but it's not available in Canada. The disappointment.
So, I decided I'd finally try some kind of Loot Crate during the holidays. Maybe a 3-month plan, for November, December (Christmas!!), and January (New Year!!).
I discovered that there isn't only the most popular one, called Loot Crate, but all sorts of different brands (Nerd Block, Geek Fuel, etc), and I have no idea which one to pick. Even Loot Crate has like 8 different crates. There's even a Harry Potter monthly crate, which I will order one of, and give it to my cousin for her birthday (she's the biggest HP fan).
I love the idea of geeky collectibles or figures. I don't really have any right now, and honestly I'm not even knowledgeable at all about it all. I don't know much about movies, or about stuff like Star Wars or other classics. I don't know any of the retro /Va5aG/ shows or comics. I don't play most AAA games or popular MOBAs. So really, I'm a terrible match, and will probably not understand half of the content.
I want them anyway! I'll find takers among my friends for stuff I don't know, for sure. Plus, most come with a geeky t-shirt, and I don't have any of those. It'd be super neat to have some to wear for workouts or whatever - I want!
You might say it's a waste of money, and I won't disagree, but I want to risk it anyway. It's not really about what's inside for me. I get really excited at the Humble Monthly a week in advance. The anticipation is fun.:) I want to experience it, and say I've tried it.
Do you guys have any experience with them, or any preference about which are better than which?
I'll try not to get Carried Away! lv2
