I find it pretty lame too. PC gamers hate DRM and then the game with GFWL wins over an amazing indie game (I'm talking about EYE and Bulletstorm). It really doesn't make sense to me.

Hey, I was bummed when in the first day Dust didn't win community vote, and I'm still waiting until it gets to front page. But I don't go into forums and calling everyone who voted the other game idiots.
If I vote, usually I'll pick the name which I recognize. If I don't recognize any of them then I'll choose which game has the nicest game title or icons...not gonna spare my time to check their store page unless it really interests me, sorry.

Yeah I'm pretty frustrated The Wolf Among Us lost one. I got a steam gift card for xmas and that's the only game I really want right now. But I'm sure there'll be a few more opportunities.

if there was a sticky thread topic somewhere saying vote for X I would follow it, but when 3 games come up I care nothing about I just vote without caring

This is a legit quote. I know that since my brother, despite the fact that I have no brother, works for Churchill and he often says these exact words while walking around White House since he's working there to restore peace in South America cuz of the whole China vs Greece conflict on Atlantis.

So you think people are stupid because they want to buy different games from you? Who cares what the discount is, if someone doesn't have that game and they're willing to pay that sale price, they will vote for it, regardless if it's been on sale ten times this week already, maybe they missed out. Your attitude sucks and I feel sorry for you.

Ha. You are funny. For one second, I actually thought you were seriously calling me a mindless idiot.
But here, for the record: I actually voted for both Sacrifice and Braid. I played them both, and thought they were awesome, so the thought that people could get them even cheaper makes me happy (even if the discount wasn't that much more than the usual one).
Sorry it is not what you wanted. You can go back to hating me now, if it makes you feel better. :P
Cheers!

I vote for either the one I'd buy if I had lots of spare money, or the one I own and enjoy.

Dat dere cheapest price be winning most of the time regardless of quality of game or percentage of discount. Just saying.

Often these things are a matter of opinion, but having just seen Civilization V win by a large margin, I am inclined to think a fair few community choice voters are not that well informed. With thousands of keys out there from the GMG/CVG giveaway, you could probably trade Super Hexagon for it over on Steamtrades, yet people are still excited about paying £5 ($7.50?) for it. Hopefully the Gold upgrade will go on sale at 75% off too, which should be worth something to someone, but I doubt that that was what most people were thinking when casting their vote.

The item on the 'ballot' was standard edition at £5, but that's the only version that didn't actually go on sale! So as well as silly voters we have to deal with electoral fraud by Valve! Still, the Gold upgrade at £2.50 is what the smart people will be wanting, so it hasn't worked out too badly.

I hope people vote for Tetrobot & Co. in the current community vote as it has not been more than 50% off thus far, so it's a significant savings. It's a sequel to Blocks That Matter, which was quite an enjoyable puzzle game from a wonderful developer -- who even added Steam workshop to the game despite it being more of an aging "budget" title. Besides, Universe Sandbox has been 75%-80% off many times I'm sure and World of Goo the same -- plus it's bundle fodder.

Seriously. This vote is a no-brainer, but people probably won't. I'll have to cry myself to sleep.

Or maybe because its 90 percent off and is a great game, I am voting for it as I like it a lot, have it on Wii already.
90 Metacritic and 1 dollar will make people vote for it, if for nothing else curiosity, its a no-brainer if you ask me...

What's not to understand? What's the real point of Valve making those community votes in the first place, if not to let people select which game they would be the most interested in actually purchasing? By voting for other reasons it taints/skews the results. That's like voting to elect someone into office when you have no vested interest in what the actual result ends up being, but rather do so with an ulterior motive (or none at all). Given your username, the irony is not lost here =P

But I do, what if I own the game but still feel its the best choice, maybe my friends want it? Thats my decision, maybe I feel the dev deserves it more, who is to say really, thats why we get a choice after all...

Well I was just thinking Valve could change the format and do something similar to what GOG is doing in their current winter sale. Still give people 3 community deals to choose from but let them select one as a personal choice. This way everybody is happy.

I voted for Tetrobot. Got Blocks that Matter during the summer sale and quite enjoyed it. :)

Did vote for it, but it didn't win. Might pick up World of Goo with steam wallet leftovers, but would have preferred Tetrobot to win. Especially because Blocks that Matter was a real sleeper hit for me.

now with caps unlocked for extra power!!
Anyways, I guess many people vote like I do. If I don't plan to buy any of the games I just vote randomly. I just want the card. So, cry a little more

The voting has really made me lose some faith in the Steam community. A lot of the time it looks like a really good indie game that is actually a decent enough of a name popularity wise that will lose to a game that has been on sale for the same price several times.
Worst one IMO was Machinarium winning with 75% off price tag to Paranautical Activity with 88% off. I know this isn't a case of popular names, but Machinarium was part of a Humble bundle and has been 75% off so many times before. Almost everyone with interest in the game already owns it by now, and many people who don't have any interest in it at all already own it too...

Hey grow up and stop crying cause everyone didnt agree with you. Its easier to just blame everyone around you and label them as stuid if they dont vote the same way you do i guess.

Game is freaking ancient though. I don't know, I think games like this you are better off getting on GOG because practically speaking, Steam often has nothing to offer in terms of added features or improvements, whereas GOG often has extras.

Really?
Grow the hell up.

Sacrifice (80% sale) winning with a 47% over sang froid (75% sale) 23%? Come on now.. really?! I won't count the raven cause the sale is just 60%, and this is not the first time it happens. Earlier Braid (80% sale) won with a 44% over Doorways Chapter 1&2 (75% sale) with a 33%, and before that another even more outrageous. We all know these are controlled by Steam but making it so obvious?
EDIT: so the conclusion is the majority of the voters are just mindless idiots who don't even care about the games that go in the voting and click randomly just to get some cards. DERP!
