Same for you?
I'm at the point in my life where I've never really played any horror games, but I want to try some of them despite being scarred horribly easily, because I know that many of them are great video games and it would be a shame to miss them all. I won't even touch stuff like Amnesia, but hopefully I'll at least manage to play something.

VR horror is the worst!
"Played" a demo, where if memory serves me right, it was set in a dusty attic with some stuff (cardboard boxes, a kid's rocking horse, etc) scattered around. Looked around for a while, expecting stuff to jump out at me... none did, relaxed myself a little, and then, out of the corner of my eye, the friggin rocking horse started moving on its own!
Definitely the first and the last time I'll be playing a horror game on VR >.<

i don't get scared by games and find jump scares just annoying, but i love really getting into a good atmospheric horror game.

There are no scary games.
EXCEPT
Project ZERO. Damn I'd still shit myself.

I have a different problerm with horror games. I love the kind of horror that focuses on disturbing atmosphere and subtle nuances, yet (almost) all the games are about jumpscares or playing hide-and-seek with a monster. That's neither fun nor scary, just annoying.

Soma had a problem with that when it was originally released. There was a Steamworks release that removed the monster, and it was very popular. I do believe the devs also released a mode (via a patch) that does the same thing. Makes it a lot easier to explore and enjoy the atmosphere I would imagine!

Didn't know that about Soma, that's good if they implemented such a game mode :)

My friend is like you, he gets scared even in non-horror games sometimes. I envy you both, I don't get scared as much as you (I still get scared sometimes) but I'd love to experience the intense fear and adrenaline at all times, it would make me feel sooo alive!

I can't cope with horror games. The anticipation of something that might scare me is worrying enough. I played F.E.A.R. once, and at the start of the game I had to go into an empty interrogation room, if memory serves. There was a chair at the table, and it shifted slightly. That was it. That's all it took for me to nope the hell out of there haha.
Shame though, because there are a bunch of games I want to play, but might never have the courage to.

a good horror game every now and then is a healthy thing. obviously you need to play in the dark and not during daytime. that's cheating!
sadly there weren't that many really good horror games in recent years.
funnily enough, no game in recent memory triggered more horror in me than playing shalebridge cradle in thief - deadly shadows when i was way younger. looking back at it now it may not look like much but back in the day it was as tense as it could get.

oh I'm terrible when it comes to horror. I have a very low tolerance of it despite growing up watching horror movies but now I cant play or watch any of that which is very sad since my favourite youtubers do so much horror especially 1 that I literally can't watch them anymore because of the fact I don't want to be sitting there with chest pains trying to push through a damn video where they aren't even going to be funny! But hey I got dead meat who does horror movies kill counts so I'm kinda there just without the scary factor
Right now I'm playing through bioshock and while for most it's not a scary game I am so tense. While it hasn't really jump scared me or anything ,except near the start where they kindly pushed something towards me and while I panicked about that ended up getting attacked, it has gotten me so tense exploring everything waiting for all the enemies to respawn and ambush me all over again. Plus the lights keep going out and my powers aren't the greatest light source. Whenever I find a voice log you can just see me cowering in the corner trying to listen to it
As long as nothing is as scary as resident evil 5 was as a kid I'm sure I can probably push through it gradually at a time maybe. Scariest game I own is left 4 dead and even thats not scary when I'm playing with others just terrible when I'm alone with useless ai. I'm sure when I get to my resident evil again though it will bring back all those nightmares and I'll regret my decision to see the whole storyline

I can appreciate a good Horror Game (Dead Space or Resident Evil 4 for example)
I can not however play games that leave you completely defenseless and have you running away bare handed from creatures that pop up all over. Really not a fan of jump scares.

The only way. ;)
And all your comments make me want to go and install Amnesia! :)
Not sure why you find this game (https://store.steampowered.com/app/359390/Amnesia_Memories/ ) so scary, however. ;)

I was indeed joking. I knew the game you meant. ^_^

I can force myself to play horror but it's usually a horrible experience for me. Movies I'm more than ok with.
Also, Siren Blood Curse's zombies (and the main gameplay mechanic involving them) made me nope the fuck out so much that I haven't touched the game in like 2 years (and it's a shame, cause it's a good title ;-;)

Dang! Sounded like a cool game. Just checked and it's a PS only game :(

I still enjoy playing horror games even if they do give me the creeps or make me jump up with a jump scare. Sorry to hear that you aren't able to enjoy them, however. :(
Layers of Fear? The atmosphere is very creepy, and that is without the odd jump scare that it throws your way (although it does give you a warning via music or a sign/note that something is nearby)!!
I'm not sure if you'd be able to complete it, but it is a lot less full of jump scares than something like Five Nights at Freddy's.

I can't play horror games either. Husband calls me "rabbit" because I startle so easily. Even when I'm just doing chores around the house, I'll be focusing on what I'm doing and someone will walk up normally and I'll get startled. Of course, being partially deaf in one ear will do that sometimes but you'd think I'd learn to calm the heck down in my own home, but no. I startle every single time. -_-*
So no, horror games are not for me. I'll stick with my Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon clones, or occasionally branch out into RPGs or MMORPGs, thank you very much.

It is very different for me.
I am literally staying in a house without any walls and ceiling (there is roof tho), alone.
Several times a cat almost made me shit myself (since they walk silent af), but other than that, i am mostly ok.
Horror games are different tho, maybe because i can control it? Idk :/

Too often, horror is synonymous with extreme gore or violence. I don't like having my guts ripped out or my body hacked to pieces. Grotesque stuff like that doesn't sit too well with me.
My favorite horror game was Parasite Eve. Only one or two jump scares. Also no viscera, although people burst into flames or turn into goo.

Don't force yourself to play something that hurts you. You've plenty other kinds of games to enjoy.

I really envy the people who can play those games.
I really want to play some of them, yet i have zero fun because of i am generally busy cleaning my pants...
Horror movies are ok, but games are totally impossible for me. Atmospheric ones are even worse than games with jump scares. Fuck...
Rant over.
edit. Well, i can't resist :D :D :D
I have to finish a game when i start it, so Amnesia here i come :D
