attack on titan; i started watching popular anime and then went on to the less and less popular ones, but kinda kept leaving aot "for later" aka "when i really have nothing else to watch". asked a friend to recommend me something because i was bored, and he insisted i would like it - i said i'd only watch it so people would stop recommending it to me. it ended up being my second favorite anime overall and it's still holding its place.

The Umbrella Academy. Honestly only started watching it out of boredom, fully expecting it to suck like most of the other superhero shows. But it was actually really good.

But isn't that the point? They all are far from perfect, far from being actual super heroes. They all have their own problems, they all are selfish to a degree, and that stands in the way of working together and rescuing the world. I agree that the kid could have been more open about everything he knows, and that would probably have led to a faster development. But he is also a guy who was trapped alone for decades and talks to a mannequin. So he's pretty nuts in his own way. That might explain a few things, including trust issues. ;)

Sure, didn't want to make the impression I want to oppose your opinion or anything. Just wanted to give my thoughts on it. :)

Parks and Recreation. The first season was kinda meh, then it turned into one of the best comedy series I've ever seen. I'm really glad they added Chris Pratt to the main cast and got rid of that boring dude Mark. Ron Swanson is the best.
Also Dark Souls. I quit around Sen's Fortress the first time I played it. Later, I gave it a second chance later and it's one of my favorite games now and I've beaten it 3 times already.

The Good Place is a tv show that really surprised me with how good it was. i expected it to be this weird preachy sanctimonious humor that i usually avoid but NO, no it was not. it was subtle and the gags were excellently paced and i love all the characters so so much.
for games the Saints Row series was something i just thought looked dumb from the screenshots my friends were posting and it turned out to be one of my all-time favorites in the end. it helped that the voice actors really sold the characters and the plots--as thin as they were--had enough nuance to them that i didn't feel like i was on endless fetch quests with shooting attached.
uhhhhhh and i guess recently the Venom movie surprised me with how much i enjoyed it. i hate Eddie Brock/Venom in the comics so so much but they managed to make the characters likable and fun and Not Assholes, so now that movie is one of my faves.

Hmm.. Fairy Tail. Yup, for sure Fairy Tail for me - I thought it was another long anime like One Piece or Bleach (don't get me wrong, I loved Bleach) but I was soooo wroooong. I guess I always liked nakama/ friendship type of movies/animes, but never expected to feel so connected with characters, and for sure not with ones in such fanservice type of anime. Right now Fairy Tail is my way to go when I feel down.

A friend of mine wouldn't leave me alone because I didn't want to watch Naruto, and when I did I really liked it. And funnily later the same happened with Hunter x Hunter. Took me a few years to give it a try and (most of time) I really liked it.

Of course I did, Naruto was my first, my last, my everything
No wonder it ended like that. Everything is great comparing to Naruto.
For me, it was Game of Thrones. My wife wanted to watch it, and at first I was "meh, some stupid show about politics". So, my wife continued to watch it without me, but I watched over her shoulder from time to time... Then, more often. Then, I started to watch with her. Then, I read the books. Then, I re-watched it from the very start, to find out the differences between books and series... I'm still surprised I like it.
About the game... It's Binding of Isaac. At first run - it looked ugly and dumb to me. I played a few hours, then dropped. And then, after some time, I've read a praising post in the internet, with some screenshot. For some reason it looked better than I remember, and I decided to give it a second try.... I 100%ed base game (not on steam), then finished most of DLC, then bought remake, and DLCs for remake, and I still play it from time to time.I lost some skill, so it's kinda hard to continue now, but I still like it.

I have to respectfully disagree. I read all of Soul Eater and they made a good choice in stopping the anime when they did because it just turns into boring and incomprehensible shit from then on. Bleach did not end concisely. There were too too too many characters unaccounted for and huge questions for what the hell actually happened at the end. Black Clover is one of the more unoriginal and uninspired shonen series to come out, very obviously drawing from Naruto and Fairy Tail while offering nothing new to the formula.

Hmm. You are right. There may be sonething even worse than Naruto, it's just me not even trying to watch those series. Makes sense.

I do it so decent people like you don't have to. It's a hard job, but someone has to do it (T_T)

Alice Madness Returns. Went in with no expectations, came out with one of my all time favorite platformers.
Edit: oh, it's still not back on sale on steam. This is sad.

Since Parks and Rec and The Good Place were already mentioned, let's keep this Michael Schur train going.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Nahhh I knew I was going to love it. With Andy Samberg, Terry Crews and Joe Lo Truglio from Superbad in the cast, count me in.

I seriously thought Hunter x Hunter was trash. Of course I did, Naruto was my first, my last, my everything when it came to "Shonen that changed my life". I thought Hunter x Hunter's style was ugly, and I still do to a certain extent.. And the character names just sounds like I'm rolling bitter-tasting marbles in my mouth when I say them. Every single character's name sounds ugly to my ears except Gon and Hisoka (and of course the names that are English words like Kite or semi-normal like Reina).
But man, when I gave it a fourth and final try...I've actually found it kind of compelling by itself.
Gon is kind of cute, honestly, and..the creativity in the challenges for the Hunter exam is actually...wow. Plus people die super hard very often whenever Hisoka is in the picture, which I can't complain about.
Still hate that I like it, though!
