I would unreservedly recommend FTL if you don't already own it.

So few bucks, so much bang-bang...

Better still, wait for a sale and your $10 could be worth $40 or more...

+1 FTL is awesome.

That totally depends on your taste but Terraria and FTL for example are games you can spend hundreds of hours with.

Right now? Pick up Broforce. Seriously, it's the 4th of July, get it now. $15, but discounted to $10.

Terraria with no doubt. Hundreds of hours of fun. And it just got updated to 1.3 , they added more than 800 new items and hundreds of playtime.

Really depends on what you like to play. See what's related to those games, put together a wishlist & easier to see then. If nothing else, wait until next steam seasonal sale.

Terrairia is pretty amazing if you're into building stuff. Think MineCraft as a 2D platformer.

Elsword is FTP. Pretty breezy and you don't have to buy anything to enjoy PVE. PVP is crap though.
All characters are free from the start which is awesome.

Marvel Heroes is FTP. Diablo/Torchlight as an MMO with tons of different playable characters.
All characters are free to play til' Lv10. Then, they get Lv locked til' you buy them w/ uncommon currency or money. It really isn't a grind to get the in-game uncommon currency.

You could also save $20 extra and buy Guild Wars Trilogy if you're looking for a Warcraft-like MMO that you can purchase once and play whenever forever.

Stay away from indie games look obviously bad. Just because a game is under $10 doesn't mean its worth your time.

These games are great, but they are quite pricey now.

Bully: Scholarship Edition $10 on sale $2.50
Left for dead $14 on sale $3
Max Payne 3 $20 on sale $6
BattleBlock Theater $15 on sale $1.50
Don't starve together $15 on sale $11
Terraria $10 on sale $2.50
The Ship $8.50 on sale $2

I would say get Terraria : not from the Store, but from traders. You can easily find it going for 1 TF2/CSGO key, since its been on sale at 75% so many times.

It depends whether you are willing to wait for sale of some kind or just want to buy a game. On sale you will be able to make the most of the money. My recommendations : Mount and Blade: Warband for 10$ (but on sale it is 2$ or so) Terraria - it is not minikraft because fighting there actually makes sense and is very enjoyable plus there are no dlcs just updates witch crapload of content. FTL is really good. Fallout 3 , NV if you are into RPGs. Commando 2 is the game I played the most when I was younger and is very good and for 2$ atm so choice is yours. And if you like Diablo like games you should definitely try Torchlight II out.

Torchlight I & II are above $10, unfortunately. They were both created by Runic Games (consisting of ex-Blizzard North employees -- they developed the first two Diablo games) so they are highly-regarded among the RPG elite.

I would recommend the following below $10:

Carmageddon: Max Pack - Vehicular violence with blood, compilation.

Arx Fatalis - 2002 RPG game with deep gameplay, an overlooked gem.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light - Co-op Tomb Raider game, spun-off from series.

If you are into old-school Fallout1/2-style RPGs, 8€ for UnderRail is unbeatable atm. Final release will be sometime this year and the price will double then, I guess. It's already a great game and totally worth the asking price.
