Should Admins of S.Gifts make events longer for us who celebrate Christmas at 7th January? for example, some seprate event for Orthodox Christmas, delayed after this one.
do as the users that directly don't celebrate and just enjoy the train of new GA, or create a group for those that want "To celebrate in the right dates", either way, comunity and staff won't make the extra effort for a minority (Or at least i doubt they would)
Comment has been collapsed.
Why wouldn't the community? We made trains for no specific reasons but to have a(nother) community train.
But I doubt that people would contribute if such an event would be initiated by "discrimination!" instead of "You are welcome to celebrate with us too!".

"Edit: i wonder if people would vote NO if they were Orthodox. I can only expect YES from Orthodox users"
Yes, you can. And orthodox can have their own opinion, different from your one.

There are also Chinese (Taoist) holidays, Muslim holidays, Jewish holidays, probably Shinto, Buddhist, Hinduist, Sikhist, Zoroastrian, and certainly holidays of many more religions, that I don't even recall at this moment. Are they less important, than Catholic or Orthodox holidays? Certainly not for the people, who celebrate them. Hardly, though, we could celebrate all of them. So I would rather prefer the English speaking Internet to free itself from this current christianocentrism, and move toward celebrating some universal things, like Solstice.and Equinox.
This, ofc, does not mean, that I have anything against folks of different religions and believes to share their celebrations with others. I would just like providers of content not linked to a particular religion to stay away from creating religious events (which certainly among others would include Steam and SG as well). Or, lol, alternatively, to be compelled to create similar events on request of any user of any religion different, than Christianity.

I think this is why it's a good thing that most sites generally go with "Winter sale", even if that in a way does not work for the southern hemisphere :P It started just before the winter solstice, and while yes, there's kind of an understanding that it's also a "Christmas sale", officially it's just a winter sale.

Discrimination? lol
Then where are the Ramadan Sales and Eid Sales? People don't care about other religions special days. Everyone does their own.
And lets be honest Christmas is not what Christmas should be. It changed dramatically to something that has nothing to do with Christ and Christianity. It turned into a consumerism feast where people waste money for stuff they dont need.

I don't feel a level of respect coming from you either. I also don't see any solutions being proposed by you save for a inconsequential poll, you're pushing all action to be taken by others. No disrespect to your religion even if your post is just glorified selfish whining. I think the mods did a wonderful job on that awesome event. I'm not religious at all, happy everybody's holiday!
Comment has been collapsed.
I mean, I'm guessing you're like making those events now? You can't really complain about communities not catering to things that aren't relevant to them. It was an event where people contributed. You can do the same thing for your thing. You wouldn't be the only one going for that event either.
If you think that's discrimination, then congrats, you're living a very cushy life. Not that that's a bad thing. I'm happy for you for that. Just make sure you don't blow things out of proportion like it is here.

why stop at the 7th? what about other celebrations?
id say celebrate the whole year.
but the matter of fact is, STEAM is US based and they celebrate US holidays
same with most of the internet.
but feel free to start an event on the 7th. im sure others will join

I'm from Russia, and I'm from an Orthodox Christian family, and I don't care. Partly because I don't even celebrate my birthdays anymore, partly because I'm agnostic, partly because most people celebrate Christmas without any religious context nowadays. It's more about Santa, presents and stuff. Every day is a holiday for some religious group and you can't please them all. It's not about discrimination, it's about choosing the most popular and well known Holiday on the world scale.
But people can do some giveaways to remind others about any date/event/holiday they care. I'm usually doing a few GAs on my birthday and on Christmas/New Year season, despite I'm not really celebrating it.

Most of the time you represent only yourself, not some imaginary "we". There is 350 million Orthodox Christians in the world, including me, I do not care about Catholic and Protestant customs, and I see they do not care about mine. The difference is, they force me to know their customs, they force their rules, but I do not, and it is unfair, unsymmetrical, intolerant, they must know about me and my Orthodox ways. Until then it's discrimination as it is.
Comment has been collapsed.
it does not even matter bla bla
No it does. If it's merely a silly tradition, and in secular Europe it is, why wouldn't we introduce some event on Orthodox Christmas, and I remind you that Russians and Ukrainians are a very large portion of this site, like, 30-40%, and we're more religious than Western Europeans. No, it won't be done, because "we don't care", right? Funny thing you've learned Chinese holidays because they're doing sales on these days. And now we're getting to the core of the problem: it's all about cultural influence, and influence is a derivative of money.
Comment has been collapsed.
Sorry to break it to you, but yes, you're on an American website. So yes, it's about culture. (I'm not American) I do not celebrate the 4th of July in my country, but it's often observed online on sites I visit with various events and such. Why would anyone complain about these things? I don't even see what religion has to do with a site like "Steam Gifts" to begin with. At the end of the day, Christmas is a nationally observed holiday in North America and whether people there are Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Agnostic, Athesist or whatever religion/no religion, they are still afforded the same treatment by getting time off work to spend with family, etc.
Imagine if we went on some Russian website and started complaining about being discriminated because the website didn't observe some of my country's traditions. It would be obnoxious.
No one is preventing any Orthodox Christian from starting their own event and getting others involved if that's what they want to do. I personally don't see the issue.

Americans are centered on themselves and do not care of the ROW, this feature is known, and it's not a good feature. What can I say, I saw an American, here, on this site, who thought every country has a holiday similar to Thanksgiving Day, the self-centrism of epic proportions. Of course you can't imagine something like that in Russia, because you don't know how things in Russia are. 20 million of Russians are Muslim (50% of them devout), several million Buddhist, 200k Jew, that's why there is absolutely no preference of one tradition over another, it's not a law - more like it's in blood. That's why the main holiday is secular - the New Year. On Eid Muslims gather in thousands near mosques in all cities, on Hanukah and Catastrophe day there are Jewish movies on TV, etc. Speaking of Russian sites, I can't imagine Christmas event in World of Warships or in Tarkov. Only New Year's.
Comment has been collapsed.
You can have all the holiday events you want on your very own Internet soon. Russia and Ukraine aren't EU and never have been, they are RU/CIS which is mostly in Asia rather than Europe.
Can we just get rid of all these false holidays and go back to the good old ones?

Yes, it's fun for me to laugh at you little Putler troll. You seem to be the kid here so you're imagining a lot of things like basic geography being trolling. But that just shows the level of Russian education I guess.
You're the one confusing SG with 4chan, not me. This is clearly shown by the quality of your comments and the deep thought process required to produce them.
Do you really imagine me going away just because you beg me to? :D

I was trying to find the Russian version of 4chan since they love to make their own for every service because they will soon be completely cut off from the global Internet. First hit was funny enough so let's settle for that.

But it's entertaining to see a valid comment being responded to with "Go be fat somewhere else." or "Fuck off retard."?
No, it's not. But you could write user report so we can check if user has history of attacking others. And instead you just start to attack and make fun of others on your own.
So it was me who derailed the discussion?
In like 50% yes. Because those insults would not be written if you'd just stop to type.
Comment has been collapsed.
You do know the rate which the user reports get ever checked at right? I really wouldn't call making fun of feeble insults any kind of attacking, more like standing my ground.
That's just like saying you won't get raped if you stop going out. if people can't handle logic they can stop typing, not me.

I know, I close some of them.

You're in discussion if not having orthodox christian event is discriminating. And we have here wall of posts that take half of the page off-topic, just because two users wanted to threw dirt on one another. It's not "fun". It's spam.
You can't have off-topic arguments to making more fun of you? constantly, just because you feel "need to stand your ground". If you want to discuss and stand your ground - add them on Steam. Don't bait users to make fun of them here.
I'm making here off-topic on my own now, so I will not reply anymore.
In the future - write report, stop to reply.

You did reply with arguments to other user reply. So calling someone else "fat" was not needed. Same for later replies.

"Russia and Ukraine are Asian countries" and "go to your own Internet" is the same as "Finns are genetically Mongols", the lowest of the low of Internet communication, and I am disgusted with this and was surprised to see on this site in a thread about Christmas. No matter how cunning he thinks he is, hiding these tropes in seemingly civilized but demagogic posts, the troll must know he's not taken as a worthy person to interact with.

Sorry little troll but basic geography still isn't an "obvious troll trope" anywhere outside Russia. I sure got what I deserved all right and I deserved a healthy long laugh it seems. Nobody but you understands your failed attempts at trolling and insulting so please just go back to your 4chan lair.
And if this really derails some religious spam thread with no actual information then it will, I can face the consequences.

You judge the whole nation by a few comments from one user. Should I remind that this isn't very smart and a little bit racist?

If you two want to throw shit at each other — well, it's your right.
But, please, stop shitposting about countries and nationalities in every second comment.
but what else can we expect from the Russian masterminds

Funny how you can call me racist but be blind to things like these. Just proves my points about Russia.

It proves nothing, besides your prejudice. I didn't agree with those quotes and, to begin with, his stupid comment about Finns was made after my reply to you. You're both worth each other — have fun, bye.

Just like Russia, China and Iran deserve each other in their new alliance. I bet you think there is nothing wrong with human rights or democracy in China or Iran either. And Russian quality really is inferior, this is clearly demonstrated by their craving for any western and especially Finnish products to the point that they are a target of major smuggling and counterfeiting. You try to have fun there, I know I will here in a free country. Bye bye!

If you're not interested, stop trying to pick fights you can never win. If I felt lonely, I would go visit some friends instead of talking to you. Maybe you should get friends too so you wouldn't have to shitpost insults a lot on the Internet. Funny how you're the one doing everything you blame me for and not even seeing it.

Ha ha ha, fights, never win! And probably to merge with the crowd? I am a sportsman, cyclist, I know how to win. Sometimes 99% are wrong, sometimes 99,99%, and if a man thinks he's right here and now, he must speak, that's what freedom of speech stands for. If I'm in need of an advice, I'll ask. Not you.

Here's some facts for you if you still imagine they are some kind of trolling. You really should read some actual news once in a while and not just RT. You probably didn't even know that you're soon getting cut off from the Internet so you don't have to worry about SG any more.

Orthodox people don't celebrate it at the 7th day of January. I'm Greek and I know that. Only old calendarists do that. Also, I don't understand why steam should care about religions, but ok.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, many Orthodox churches have already switched to Gregorian (or revised Julian, which is even more accurate) calendar, so it's not discrimination against Orthodox Christians specifically.
It's just that some Orthodox churches (in about 20 countries) still use the old calendar (that keeps drifting, in a few decades Christmas will switch to January 8th). I suppose you can't make everyone happy.

Well, for example, Russians, Serbians (my country) and some other i guess celebrate Christmas on 7th January, it seems even VALVE Steam doesn't care and other sites, it's totally forgotten, discriminated. I think it's time to do something about it, so, there is a vote poll, also feel free to comment and we will see if Admins of this site will do something about it.
Edit: i wonder if people would vote NO if they were Orthodox. I can only expect YES from Orthodox users which are not so huge population here compared to Catholics....
Edit 2: I don't do this vote cause of giveaways, but due to some respect between countries, to make the world better place where different religions show respect to each other...
