My first purchase was GTA Complete Edition ... actually, I bought it from someone as a gift ... so my first REAL Steam purchase was Garry's Mod during the Summer Sale

The Portal bundle(Portal 1&2). But the first thing I activated was The HiB V.

Counter-Strike 1 Anthology.

First game that I ever bought for Steam was The Orange Box, though that was retail. My first purchase through Steam was the Indie Pulse Pack.
The next five things I bought were World of Goo, Super Meat Boy pre-order, The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom, the Deus Ex Collection, and the Indie Kids Pack. ^_^

first game was half life 2 some months after the release date

Terraria and GMod together, both at full price. I was new to steam and didn't know a sale was 1 week away.

I didn't purchase it on Steam, but my first Steam game was the original Portal. I don't remember what I bought first on Steam, unfortunately.

Plants versus zombies. XD I had a blast with that game too.

The first game I got which used Steam was The Orange Box collection thing. I bought it at a Best Buy, and before that I'd only had a vague idea of what Steam was, I'd heard maybe one or two friends mention it at some point...
