I like both, have had both all my life (and many other kinds of pets.) Right now I own a cat (Devon Rex) and a chinchilla. I sort-of own a toy poodle, but he loved my mother and she is getting older so he lives with her.
Meant to add, Devon Rexs are more like dogs. She talks a lot, knows tricks, and wags her tail when she is happy.

I used to consider myself a cat lover only, but in the last several years dogs grew on me too. I even suspect I'll adopt one as soon as I'm ready to get into new relationship (another cat would be too soon).
And this crazy beauty had been with me for 20,5 years untill a year and a half ago. We adopted her when I was 9 years old, and she was a baby (about 3 weeks old, if my memory serves me). She was grown by humans and, I think, she actually considered herself to be one as well; poor girl, she was always trying to explain things verbally, and we, silly humans, couldn't understand her - while she understood us perfectly. I've come across a lot of cats, but I've never seen another one who was that intelligent. Needless to say, she was my best friend through long years and the only person in my life that loved me unconditionally and dearly (apart from my mother, of course). I can't even begin to say how much I miss her.

I actually had a dream today about a cat who could, it was kinda scary. Still, I agree with you. Then again, there are harmless little guys out there (my favourites are spitz dogs and pugs).

I get that you're joking, but I still have to say: don't get a pet rat. Not ever. It's horrible. I mean, they are just too amazing, they are smart and friendly, and you get attached to them as if they were cats or dogs, but they just don't have a lifespan of a cat or a dog.

Well, too late. I had pet rats for almost 10 years and have them now. It's very painfull when they pass away, but i got with it. It's a natural way of life. They make me sooo happy when i'm coming back from work.
Never had cats, they are too selfish for my taste, but had dog, parrot, fishes. And only rats won my heart.
P.s. Right now my rat is trying to prevent me from sending this message by jumping on keyboard.
