I'm extremely surprised it got to a 90% off sale and in some cases even more than that. The game has had it's share of big issues, mostly due to live service/online part of the game as pointed out by community members. There is definitely some grind to it, but in my opinion the single player story mode is pretty good so far. $4 for a AAA Marvel game(in some cases cheaper than that) with around a 12 hour main story mode plus 12 more hours of DLC content is worth getting, especially since it's about to be removed from sale.

I won this game here, I'm playing it right now, and having a lot of fun with it (thanks again, Mayanaise). The campaign and story is really good, all the extras and DLC are nice, and the details in some levels are impressive. It has its issues, it's true, like the repetitiveness of the endgame content, and the bad design of its interface that doesn't explain much and it's just too much, so when you start the game, you have no idea what to do or where to go. But once you get past of all that and understand how the game works, all it's left is the fun. Also, the graphics and sound are really good, even on "medium" settings. The game is big, though, its size is 94.6 GB, so having an SSD helps a lot, and it's highly recommended. The game doesn't have Denuvo anymore, and the performance is good. Honestly, at this price, it's a steal. I also don't understand the criticism toward Kamala Khan. In the beginning of the campaign she's just a little girl, and acts like one, and this was the point were I understand she could be considered "annoying". But later on and for the rest of the campaign, she is just an energetic teenage girl, and nothing else. Tony Stark is more annoying than her, but everyone loves him...
Anyway, is someone is interested in this game but has doubts, at this price, just go for it. The campaign is fun, just remember to go to "Operations" and start it from there, or just go in-game to the main room in the ship where the War Table is, and select "Operations", then "Part 1" and so on. You can replay missions later on from there, too. And the exclusive "Variable Threat Response Battle Suit" for Iron Man can be obtained if you disconnect your computer from the Internet, change your date to any day before April 1st, start Steam in Offline Mode, play the game and earn an achievement, then select Iron Man and look for this suit. Equip it and do at least one short mission with it, just to make sure the game saves it. (All of this is easier when you start the game for the first time.) After that, you can close the game and Steam, restore the current date and reconnect your PC to the Internet. Iron Man should be wearing this suit the next time you play the game.

It actually balloons up to almost 150GB, if you install the HD texture pack.

The game is also on sale at -90% (USD $3.99) for Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC (Windows 10/11). One purchase with your Xbox/Microsoft account grants you all those versions at once. Regional prices also apply, so make sure to switch the store to your region: https://www.xbox.com/en-us/games/store/marvels-avengers-edicion-definitiva/brx6hs1g5cdk
And also it's on sale for PS4/PS5. This version includes the exclusive Spider-Man, but as usual on PlayStation, there's no regional prices. It's USD $3.99 (plus taxes) for everybody: https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/UP0082-PPSA01631_00-0662491250602628

There's solid enough story and gameplay for $4 in there. They center the early campaign around Kamala Khan, which was a mistake, but all the characters are relatively fun to play. Don't really need much pre-requisite knowledge. The graphics are great and, generally, all-around solid production values.
Might want to even consider buying two copies so you can play together with your son. It's P2P servers, so should still work fine.
