Does goty sound like a dumb word?
It's hard to compete with System Shock 2. Or it seems to be, since I never played it. But it's something I look to do someday, for sure.

Hopefully they bring Catherine Full Body to pc eventually.

Corpse Party: Book of Shadows it is. I've waited to play it for years, before it even got a Steam port. The plot jumps all over the place, but it's not a bad addition to the franchise. Plus, nothing else that I've chosen to play so far this year could possibly compete with how much I like the series.

Oh, you don't mean only games that were released in 2020. Because I think it was a rather lousy year for games so far (on PC anyway).
I've played relatively many games this year (no wonder because of the circumstances). It was way over 20 games, but I'd like to point out 4 of them that I would see as GOTY contender, in the order that I've played them this year:
The one that stuck with me the most was The Witness, I think it's one of the most polished puzzle games that exist, and I put wonderful 30 hours into it.

The Witness sure does look wonderful. I'm currently going through the first Evoland and it's such a drag. Everyone talks about how the second one is better, and I might just drop the first one and play the sequel instead.

Dude, no joke! Drop the first Evoland. Compared to the second one, the first is basically a tech demo. You also don't need any knowledge from the first one, since Evoland 2 is a completely different story. It's also a full fledged JRPG style game with 30 hours of content (if you're completionist). It blew my mind!

Sure looks like it. I'm not a fan of the devs' decision of never putting it on sale, though.

(Didn't play many due to busy work schedule.)
Yakuza 0 .

Duuude Yakuza 0 is fantastic. I also finished it this year and would have mentioned it in the OP if I had remembered about it. Japanese people have such a special taste for storytelling.

Jedi Fallen Order, I think it's one of the top 5 SW games. I think it's even a better lightsaber game than Jedi Academy.
Also Graveyard Keeper is like Stardew but fun AND funny, it removes a lot of the daily mid/late game grind while keeping the same core gameplay.

Jedi Fallen Order is so good that I don't even care for Star Wars and I really would like to play it. It entered EA Pass just this week, so I might give it a go through that eventually.

I haven't finished any games released this year, but I had a few personal favorites from other years that I finished in 2020:

Ever Oasis and Solatorobo look really enjoyable. The sort of games I hope come to pc someday.

Ever Oasis I haven't read much about, but it seems to be somewhat unknown. And about Solatarobo, well, my memory is a bit foggy, but I remember seeing an interview with someone from the IP owner of the game, and although the interview was mainly focused at the 3rd game of the franchise Solatorobo belongs to, and at some point, it was asked about a possible port/remake/remaster of Solatorobo, and the guy interviewed mentioned there was no plans for it at that moment.
Btw, Tail Concerto and Solatorobo, 2 out of the 3 games from the Little Tail Bronx franchise, hold little to no connection to one another, so I'd believe it will be the same for Fuga: Melodies of Steel, the 3rd game.
also, sorry for rambling

I really enjoyed playing AC Odyssey in January as everything was still alright

Great choices! Borderlands 3 and Metro Exodus are dropping in price quite quickly.

Anodyne was a lot like Yume Nikki slammed together with oldschool Zelda, and I loved it for how weird it was. The postgame was tedious, though, and really held it back.
The .hack//G.U collection took a bit to get into, but it was a very worthwhile experience; let me turn my brain off and just go adventuring whenever I wanted, and had some pretty entertaining characters. Good, solid combat, too, and it was fun how the game kept one-upping itself until it was straight-up ludicrous.
Moonlighter is an overhead Action-Adventure Roguelite that is half exploring and battling your way through randomly-generated dungeons and half managing an item shop, but the latter is more compelling than you'd think. As you progress, more complexities arise, so everything is kept fresh.
World's Dawn is the first Harvest Moon with excellent writing, and gender/sexual orientation options; it sounds silly, but I grew very fond of my lesbian wifey by the end of the experience, doing nice things for her, even though I knew full well that the game's algorithms didn't care.
Anodyne 2 switched it up and took place in a 3D world with tiny 2D dungeons, and there's a lot of variety. So much, in fact, that the game as a whole is a weird, dreamlike experience.
Borderlands 2 changed up a lot of things, while keeping the core intact. It wasn't better or worse; just different, and though I like the first one better, I can always go back to that, because there are still 3 more playable characters. This is the Shooter I've wanted since Turok 2.
Borderlands just knocked me right upside the head; it just hit the perfect spot for me with great characters, great writing, crazy guns, and enough RPG elements that even I had a chance. It's the Shooter I've wanted since I first played Turok: Dinosaur Hunter.
Transistor was technically a replay, but while I had issues with it the first time, this time it became one of my all-time favorite games. The environments, the combat, the music, just EVERYTHING finally came together for me. #1 without question.

What a detailed answer. Thanks! I've never seen someone who prefers the first Borderlands over the second. I played the first game multiple times and very much enjoyed it. But after playing the sequel, I can't go back. It's just too much of an improvement. And I agree that Transistor is amazing. I still have the soundtrack from back when I played it.

Looks like it reversed my order; Transistor was supposed to be #1... I like to put in details like that, in case someone's potentially interested; that way, they'll see more than "Oh, that's that game I keep seeing." As for Borderlands, I'm weird; I'm that person who prefers Soma and even the Penumbra games over Amnesia. Adventure of Link to every Zelda game that isn't Wind Waker. Probably going to be that one jerk who really loves The Pre-Sequel. That sort of thing. The reason I like the first Borderlands a little better is that while 2 has so much more variety and story, well, that's pretty much it. The environments in the first game are very consistent (and I happen to love deserts) and without any real story, you can just turn your brain off and go wandering, and I like that, sometimes. Can't say that the music in 2 isn't infinitely better in just about every way.

Ghost of Tsushima, the game was a pleasant surprise to me, i thought nothing could beat the marvelous The Last of Us part 2, but i was wrong. I've always dreamed to be able to play an Assassin's Creed game themed on feudal Japan, filled with samurai and ninja stuff, and Ghost of Tsushima is exactly like that.

Picking one is too hard so I'll choose 3. :D Gris, A Way Out and Mario Odyssey.
Man I really need to finish Cuphead, I stopped during the third world but replayed the first 2 twice and absolutely loved it. Kudos on 100%ing it, very impressive!

Thanks! I really recommend you finish Cuphead. The third world and the final place have some of the best bosses in the game.
A Way Out seems like a cool game albeit for a relatively niche public. And what is there to say about Mario Odyssey. What Nintendo lacks in competence in the hardware market, they really do the opposite with their games.

That's great to hear! And yeah A Way Out was definitely the biggest surprise for me, I expected to love the other two. Glad I was able to play co-op with my brother. :) Definitely worth a playthrough if you've got a bud to play with.

Doesn't need to be released this year. Just a game you played this year and enjoyed.
For me, it was a year with some good contenders, such as Rise of the Tomb Raider and Assassin's Creed Origins. There's still some time to go, but the winner is most likely going to be Cuphead, which I finished 100% just today. That game is just two levels above everything else. It's easily in my top 2 best 2d games I've ever played. What about you?
