When you play the game with the lights off and headphones (although I played most of it on speakers) the game is eerie. It's not scary like omgwtfbbq i just shit myself, but it's scary in an atmospheric way. I found myself easily immersed into the game and it left me a little creeped out so I only play like 10 or 15 minutes at a time. But that's just me

PooTeZ! I'm so disappointed in you! You never like any good games xD Seriously!

Seemed to hyped up and kinda got dissppointed. After watching Asian Japanese, Korean, and Thai horror half my life...the game was pretty much just a walk in the park to me lol. Played in the pitch dark, the part close to the ending was cool though had a good min of being chased.

There's a kinda certain way you have to play the game.
1) At night
2) With earphones in
3) No one else around
4) Low gamma setting
You also have to try and immerse yourself in the game. As it say the first time you start the game, don't try to fight the monsters, don't try and make yourself manly by saying "pff, this isn't scary" and then walking right into the darkness. You have to sort of get into character, be the person in the game, TRY to be scared (if you aren't already :P).

ATTENTION READ THIS:
First off its not a cheap shock scare game, any game maker can create something that makes you jump.
Secondly, you are playing it wrong. You are supposed to get focused on the game and feel a sense of weakness, obviously you didn't read that it said that at the start of the so you only have yourself to blame.
If you are looking for a game with cheap shock scares (that are effective) play the first f.e.a.r. game.

Hell no! You probably haven't gotten very far :P Just don't be negative while playing it and I'm sure you'll enjoy it

I think it's fine, ofc it could be better, but this is probably just the beginning and it was pretty scary at some parts, but it also depends on the person playing it,not everybody might find things scary as others do.

Ta, more for the list. Thought I'd played The Curse of Brewer Manor but seems to be another case of installed-and-forgot-about-it. Maybe this'll be an Amnesia weekend!

not overrated but it definitely isn't a game for everyone. I loved the atmosphere and enjoyed being scared but would never have bothered getting past some of the later puzzles/item hunts without a walkthrough.

It's one of the best games I've ever played. Great story, great gameplay, and scary in a way that is ACTUALLY scary, none of that "oh god a monster just jumped out from behind that bush, I guess I'll just mow him down with my gigantic chaingun" crap. It's an atmospheric game, you have to be involved in the game to understand it. Also, if you're playing it with any lights on in the room, you're doing it wrong.

i really got into it a little after the invisible water monster, having got frustrated and quit a couple times before getting that far. it has a slow start, but as more of the story is revealed and you put larger chunks of time into the game where you truly focus on the game you might find that you really like it. there were a couple points that actually did manage to startle me, but for the most part it was just disturbing (in an interesting / good way). it starts to make sense why the main character is so mentally fragile once you learn more about what he'd been through before deciding he needed to forget. of course not everyone enjoys a well-written story and a journey into disturbing subjects most of us don't actually experience. i wrote up more about it on my website so feel free to click on that if you want to read more of my opinion.

I think the problem here is that you actively do not want to like the game. If you're bored of everything and aren't willing to do a bit of backtracking, I'm sorry, just give up now. If you haven't noticed, there's no minimap, the game doesn't tell you where to go in a linear fashion. You either put up with it because the game is an atmospheric gem, or you don't.

good point. the op sounds a lot like "i realize a lot of people like this game -- wonder what'll happen if i say it sucks?"

So you'd rather have Dead space? A game solely based around annoying jump scares? I mean granted Amneisia is certainly over rated and people need to stop treating it like it's the second coming of christ or something but i'd take it over any so called "Horror" games that have come out in reason years from the major studios.

So some days ago I got Amnesia from the HIB V. I played it for a while and I'm PROUD I didn't pay 20$ for it.
What the hell? What's scary about it?
It's just like that:
Quiet......quiet.....quiet....LOUD NOISE....quiet......quiet....quiet....LOUD NOISE AND SCREEN FLASH....quiet......quiet....boring....quiet....etc, etc.
It's scary the first three times. After that it's just like your little bro trying to scare you from behind...again and again....
Plus, the story is just like Penumbra. Doesn't seem promising.
Still I think I will give it another chance to see if it becomes interesting.
Do you think I should continue playing it?
EDIT: Ok, played it a bit more. I found the first monsters. I'm not with the water monster, blocked in the puzzle (I need to open a heavy door). I closed the game because I'm bored of that. Seriously. Do I really need to go all the way back jumping from box to box to find a mechanism or something?
A game that FORCES you to go back because you "forgot" something you didn't even know about is a bad designed game.
And no, it's still no scary at all.
Plus, what's wrong with the main character? Is he drunk or retarded? Five seconds in darkness and he's over-breathing and seeing blurry :/
Still I'll give it one more try. I hope it gets better :/
