So I made this topic for people who wonder when they will level up. I based this list on cg's post days ago and after seeing the Real CV calculator tool that our fellow SG user knsys created here I realized it's pretty much in line with it. The mistake most people make is, that they base their CV on the "Gifts Sent" value, but that one now counts all bundle games with their full value. You don't get 30$ CV anymore from your first few bundle games, they are now always calculated into your CV level with only 15% of their full value. Also you need to have at least 5 entries on your giveaway. For a full explanation of CV Levels and Reduced CV/No CV giveaways click here and here

You can check your Real CV here and compare it to this list (kinda redundant now that knsys added your specific range to the calculator :D)
I try to update the table from time to time, if you need the current live numbers check here at the bottom of the page.

Contributor Level Contributor Value Range Number of users (October 3, 2022) Percentage of Users Percentage of Users (Level 0 excluded)
Level 0 $ 0 980,047 85.088% -
Level 1 $ 0.01 - 25 114,023 9.900% 66.386%
Level 2 $ 25 - 50 18,627 1.617% 10.845%
Level 3 $ 50 - 100 14,062 1.221% 8.187%
Level 4 $ 100 - 250 12,360 1.073% 7.196%
Level 5 $ 250 - 500 5,770 0.501% 3.359%
Level 6 $ 500 - 1000 3,415 0.296% 1.988%
Level 7 $ 1000 - 2000 1,955 0.170% 1.138%
Level 8 $ 2000 - 3000 625 0.054% 0.364%
Level 9 $ 3000 - 5000 518 0.045% 0.302%
Level 10 $ 5000+ 403 0.035% 0.235%

In case you are wondering why these are static & not dynamic like in the beta ?

"We did have dynamic before, but it meant people would lower in levels over time if they're inactive. In a couple of years, we might have to raise them" -cg

So these are correct for now.

Why have I been degraded from level 2 to level 1?

Because you have been a naughty boy.

Have you searched for similar topic in discussions?
This is pretty much common, happens mainly because of 2 reasons

  1. Change in price of game on steam (i.e. price decreased in game you gave away)
  2. Game added in bundle list. (Games that are included at cheap bundles multiple times or game gets discounts more than 95%)

So basically lex retro agit, well that's a new one.

Permalink

Since I doubt they retroactively bundled a game you gave away 2 years ago now, what free game did you try to give away that got deleted ?

Edit: No price drops neither.

Not like as you say (lex retro agit - I vaguely searched for the term).
If your GA is created before game is bundled: Full CV
If your GA is created after game is bundled: 15% of CV (even if you paid full value for the game)

Looking at your GA 2 are bundled GA and 1 is unbundled

Game Bundled Date GA Date CV
Cosmic DJ Jul 31, 2014 Aug 7, 2014 15%of CV = $0.45
Galactic Civilizations® II: Ultimate Edition Aug 19, 2014 Aug 20, 2014 15%of CV = $3.00
Airline Tycoon 2:Gold - Sept 12, 2014 Full CV = $20

So either the price of Airline Tycoon 2:Gold got down at steam
OR
CV for Galactic Civilizations® II: Ultimate Edition got down because the game retroactively got added in bundled games. (Likely because it takes time to add game to bundled list usually up to couple of months, and you might have not noticed the change in CV)

You don't get it. The whole point of this comment is based on the fact, that some time ago I was at level 2, did absolutely nothing to change that and suddenly now I'm level 1. I don't care about the price change, this shouldn't affect anything I've done 2.5 years ago. As I was level 2, I should remain that way, any price change cannot affect those things which already have been done a long time ago and already elevated me to level 2. Lex Retro Non Agit, and yet it still does.

Keep in mind that changes to the list of bundle games will apply retroactively, so if a bundle begins today, attempting to gift the game before it's added to the list will offer no advantage. Games may also be added to the bundle list if they're available for free during a promotion, or if they're highly discounted in a sale.

I don't know what you are expecting at all. You think its unfair while its not. While it is already clearly stated in FAQ and Guidelines.
You think you didn't do anything and your level should have been the same. Technically you never reached level 2 at all at anytime. Looking it from another angle its like you had the privilege to enjoy level 2 for some time until the game was added to bundle list. It was just a glitch where due to various reasons game didn't get added to bundled games. That's the fact.

Well there are various threads and discussions regarding why CV should stay the same and why the level should be same. I am not here to discuss that (I think somewhere in this thread there is the argument for and against it, by admins and members, please do check it). You asked a question and I gave what the reason probably might have been.

Hey, RushYou. In case you are still wondering about your level, keep in mind that bundled games are displayed as full value on your profile but only contribute 15% of their value to your CV.

Thanks. It's marked received and don't updatet my Lvl. I know the Dirt3 was free for a short time, but when I saw it in a store cheap, I thought it would bring me a few points, because you do not get the game on Steam. :/

You should read the post again.
If you give non-bundled game you get 100% CV, if you give a bundled game you get 15% CV, and if you give a game that was free at some point you get 0 CV.
2 GAs you made that are recorded since they have been marked as received are for a free game meaning you get 0 CV.
When you make a GA, you even have the * by the name, one star means bundled and 2 means a free game.
Hope I made it all clear

Is there a delay between SGTools' RealCV? and SteamGifts' RealCV?

I few hours ago, I just dropped from Level 5.06 to level 4.71 (according to my level history compared to when I last checked, it appears the RealCV value suddenly dropped on some giveaways I did months ago and retroactively down-leveled me). However, SGTools still sees me as Level 5.06.

SGtools can sync bundle list, but there is no free games list to sync. So Knsys adds free games manually after they are reported. I think that's the reason.

Also I don't know how often SGtools sync bundled list.
