Would you like to live forever? Personally, I'm fascinated by the idea of living forever, but I think immortality would become boring after a few thousand years.

Given all that time... I'd definitely make my long-term goal world domination. I think that would be an interesting project to keep myself busy for a while. Eventually branch out into space, explore and conquer everything.
If I get bored of it in a few thousand years from now I can always have myself put in some sort of stasis or coma, wouldn't really suffer from the boredom then.
So yes, so many things to see and do given infinite time. :D

While my curiosity makes me want to see what is in store for mankind, it also makes me wonder what happens after death - so my final answer is why ponder it at all if I can't win either way - one state naturally precludes the other...

You need to see what happened to Ra's Al Ghûl in Arkham City and you don't need anything else.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned this yet, but what if you do something bad and get sentenced to life in prison? That would suck.

I'm sure you'd be out on good behavior in 700 more years. Though really I'm sure there's a number of ways around that. Including outliving the society that has imprisoned you. Or varying on the actual length of the sentence. In a number of places a life sentence is between 25-75 years. Though to step back from that, if you're doing something to earn multiple life sentences, then perhaps bestowing immortality upon you was a mistake.

Well, with the laws in certain countries, the US included, getting a life sentence isnt all that difficult. As time passes, so do laws. It wasnt that long ago that you could be put to death for stealing. Currently, you can get a much harsher sentence for stealing from a grocery store for survival then someone that steals millions of dollars from elderly people's retirement funds.
In some US states for instance, if you posses what is classified as child pornography, real, drawn, animated, or just typical embarrassing childhood photos parents take, you can be sent to prison for life.

Being immortal doesn't make you invincible though imo. Do be careful as to not get chopped up into pieces and buried somewhere.

I was immortal once, in a previous life.

Of course. I'm extremely terrified of what may or not be there after death and don't want to take the risk of there being nothing at all. Besides, I want to watch technology advance.

edit: And I've suffered so much loss in such a brief life already, I think I could handle an eternity of it and/or handle never being close to anyone again. I've thought a lot about this actually.

I'd enjoy to meet and talk to someone who'd be immortal and had lived for very long already. (For example, Emanon, the char of my avatar, she is 6 billion years old, I'd love to get to know her and chat about everything :D)

As for immortality myself, I'd give it a pass, although I wouldn't mind some extended life time.

Imagine you raped and killed everyone in a school and you were sentenced for a total of 700 years. That would suck bigtime

I dont know about canada, but here in the states, we will kill ya. In fact, Texas has or had an "express line" to the electric chair if you kill 5 or more people.

Yes. I don't believe it ends with this life though, so I'm not seeking immortality in this body.

Every generation has their rituals and group dynamics. Afros, bright colors, tie dye, slang like cool, stick it, man, bogus, rad and so on. Even in the jungles of the amazon, a tribe that has never seen or interacted with the outside world has such things that makes the elders think the newest generation is retarded.

I'm horrified at the idea of immortality. You'll live while everyone and everything that you hold dear in life will perish in time. You'll seek new things to fill that void but in the end you'll always be alone. Besides immortality is a fallible idea due to entropy. Everything comes to an end in life. Read Isaac Asimov's "The Last Question", it's a great short story. Source
