Update via TechRaptor: Digital Homicide files to dismiss the suit without prejudice, allegedly because now that they can't sell their games on Steam, they can't afford the court fees.

Which incidentally is something that would hold up in court as an intentional act of harassment with damages to the business.

Yeah good luck getting a conviction on something like that. I don't recall Humble ever going after people who paid $0.01 for a bundle and cost them more than that because of transaction fees. Anyway, DH did far worse essentially committing fraud for so long. This 'business' that you speak of is but a fallacy.

The suit has officially been dismissed on Romine's request.
I have not read the documents myself, but apparently he asked to have it dismissed because he was no longer able to afford the court fees thanks to Valve. The same source says that he didn't get his $400 filing fee back like he asked.
The Jim Sterling suit is still ongoing, pending a decision that I believe has to be made by the 11th of October (Motions to Dismiss are usually supposed to be decided within 90 days).

So they're just $400 poorer after this. Or about 20 000 card sales (assuming they get $0,02 per sale).
Actually, putting it into that kind of perspective, it's quite obvious that they were making money from card sales. If 75% of all the people grabbing their free keys were card farmer (not entirely unlikely, who else wants this junk), and each game gives 3 cards, their 100 000 game giveaways will net them about $4500

That is pretty good money when you put in a day's work at best. I wonder if they hope dismissing will allow them to come back to Steam.

Maybe it's because they weren't able to secure proper legal representation. Anyway, I cannot see Valve changing their minds after what DH did. Once you rub them the wrong way Valve seems like the type that might be a bit vindictive behind closed doors. I doubt DH will leave it at this and just let it go though. Don't be surprised if they file another frivolous suit at a later date.

Hm. I though the "order go show cause" would be something.
Turns out that's actually Romine being called in front of the judge for not responding in time to the fact the case was assigned to a Magistrate Judge.
Maybe that's a sign the Court is getting tired of Romine not following their rules?

"Digital Homicide are going after Steam users as well as Jim Sterling.
Well that escalated quickly.
If you cast your mind back, you may remember Jim Sterling’s back and forth with Digital Homicide after he did a first impressions video on their title Slaughtering Grounds.
Since then, the Romine brothers – who constitute the developer team at Digital Homicide – have launched a lawsuit against Sterling (legal name James Stanton), stating that he has “falsely accused [Digital Homicide] and caused damage” to the tune of $10 million dollars.
The brothers were using crowdfunding for legal fees initially, but that avenue had to be abandoned when “harassers” began “donating amounts specifically to cause charges rather than donations and charge backs to cause financial fees,” according to Kotaku. They have since decided to represent themselves.
This week, Digital Homicide has taken things up a notch.
According to these court documents provided by Sid Alpha who talks more about this in the video above, the brothers are also suing 100 Steam users and have subpoenaed Valve in order to get these people’s personal information.
James Romine is now after $18 million dollars in this personal injury suit.
Over on the NeGAF thread, there’s a lot of head scratching going on as everyone tries to figure out what it is Digital Homicide hope to accomplish.
Have you got any thoughts on this bizarre case? As always, chime in below."
@Source
Well now that's the joke of the day.
