I blame the parents.
Tried (and still am), but while I don't get a job, I don't see anything else to occupy myself with. Waiting till I hit 18 so I can go and work a part-time job at my uncle's. That way I know that I won't have much time for gaming since all that time will go forwards work.
Cheers mate!

Many times through the years i tried to quit it.
It succeeds only when i am out of the town for a week of vacation with friends/fiance. It's easy cause you have good company to share your spare time with.
The hard time is in the evenings, especially on winter. You get home from work tired and you want to relax. TV has nothing good, you have seen way too many movies so there is nothing new to see, the weather is bad and you can't go out for a walk, you don't feel like drinking so bar/cafeteria is not an option, not in mood to begin with a new anime series. So you have basically the following options:
A) Have friends to come over or go to them
B) Start a hobby like modeling
C) Open Steam and have fun
Option A is not always available, but when it does you certainly take it.
Option B is not cost effective.
Option C is both always available and cost effective.
Whenever i tried to quit gaming it lasted for a week or 2. Then the thoughts above come to my mind so i end up playing again and again.

And after that you fell back into that "illness" like me ...
You mentioned above instrument learning as an option. It is actually an amazing idea, tried it myself 10 years ago, spent quite a few money to get a Roland only to realize later (me and the tutor) how unskilled a person can be with instruments :D
The bad outcome of this action is the sadness i have whenever i watch the dusty piano staying by the wall cause i consider that with the same amount of money i spent to get it, i could have taken a high end gaming PC ... ... ...

i dont usually play much just after i get paid :) and during the summer if its nice out (live in Scotland so we dont usually get much sun), rest of the time i play when i feel like it or im bored. Never had the urge to quit as i dont think it impacts my social life to the degree where i would consider it something i needed to think about.

I tried a lot of times actually, but since I have some problems in my personal life, game is the only way I have for forget about it, but sometimes I stay weeks without play so, it depends, it more like how my life is going, but I think I'm too addicted, right now I'm trying to quit but... it's not really working.

How do you quit when life is a game... only way is to get the big game over screen in the sky/ground/rebirth or what ever you believe in lol

Tried? No. But I've gotten bored and taken long breaks.

No. I enjoy it and it doesn't hurt anybody. Hobbies provide stress relief.
But if you feel like you could be doing something more productive with your time, you could always try mixing gaming up with something else - like learning a new language. I very, very rarely play games in my mother tongue. Games (especially multiplayer/mmo's) are the most involved, cheapest tools at our disposal to learn new languages - second only to real life experience (you could even say they're superior in a way, since games are not limited to a certain time, place and socio-cultural reality).
Or something else. It's up to you. :)

I gave up gaming for 1 month. Nothing at all. No games on PC or phone or anywhere else.
Then I went back after that 1 month, and I had to remind myself why I like gaming in the first place to start enjoying it again.
Thing is.. its hard to give up initially. But if you stick to your resolve, its very easy to stay away.

So, I do have some moments in my life where I think: Damn, I could use all that time gaming to do something productive instead.
I quit gaming from time to time but not permanently, I eventually roll back into the mud and start playing again. What I hate the most is the sleep I lose due to it. If I play single-player games, I do seem to control myself nicely though.
