Stop whinging. The prices here in AU are even worse (see examples above). Our dollar is worth MORE than the US and we pay 4x times as much for games.

Ok buddy, Europeans in average earn more than americans. It's called COST OF LIVING.
That's why the prices are adjusted. In reality, the price is the same for you people.

No its simply price gouging. No way in the world that our standard of living is FOUR TIMES better than US. It exploiting the same pricing that was created for retail shops.

Ah, didn't know that steam overprices games 4 TIMES as much as the US store. Come on man. The percentage is fine.

This may very well be the most idiotic reasoning I've ever seen.
"Screw the exchange rate, these guys make more so they'll pay more for the exact same product."
Makes sense.

Ever heard of the BIG MAC INDEX? First, the op is NOT complaining about the exchange rate! 2nd, it's idiotic to say that something is idiotic and didn't even understand it in the first place.

No I hadn't heard about the big mac index but I fail to see how it enforces your point. The op is complaining about the price difference between different regions which is a by-product of Steam not following the exchange rate. Also what is there to understand? You're saying Europeans make more money than American citizens so it's OK to overcharge them. Yes, I find that idiotic to say the least.

then sorry, but you know NOTHING about the big mac index if you don't understand why I mentioned it. Care to read a little about it before burping out your ignorance?

True, I know nothing. No, I couldn't care less. And your reasoning is still nonsensical.

For those who don't want to Google, the index registers the prices of a Mcdonald's Big Mac around the world so that it can be compared to the US dollar. The Economist started using it for shits and giggles in 1986.
There's just one problem with this index: it doesn't take into account salaries. Switzerland for example has higher salaries, but the price of a Big Mac is through the roof. Its price is apparently 65% higher than in the US, but I can assure you I don't make 65% more than an American dude with the same job I have.
And this applies to video games just as well. You take my salary after taxes, you take someone else's (hopefully that guy would have the same qualification I have, would work in the same field and would perform the same task, etc.), you make him work in the US, and you compare how many Borderlands he can buy, and how many I can buy.
I don't know what's gonna turn out but I'm thinking I'm gonna get ripped off. Even the average Moscowite, with his insanely low video game prices, can't buy the same amount of MW3 an average Californian could buy.

Yes, well all know about this. That's why I said "average". Also, there isn't a steam store for EACH country.

That's total bullshit. Latvia is in Europe and we don't earn half of the money people in USA earn. We get barely any money and all the prices are very high in Europe. That's stupid how the prices are made in Steam. Why must I pay more than people in USA or Canada FOR THE SAME FUCKING GAME???
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, before steam I had to pay like... 200 reais (apx. 110 dollars) to buy a game. Brazil taught me to love any game under 100 reais. Overpriced RPG books taught me this too.

Because most of time it isn't :
EU Steam : Borderlands = 19.99 € and Borderlands GOTY = 19.99 € ( WTF Same price ) = 24.5683 usd
US Steam : Borderlands = 19.99 $ = 16.2649 €
And there's 80% of the game that are like this :(
