i'll rather have the escrow active than adding the android aplication code 4-5 times daily

There's no code. You just go into the app and hit "send offer". It doesn't open a web page like the button in the E-mail and you don't have to delete the E-mail afterwords.

i have disabled the e-mail confirmation because it was annoying...and i'm talking about the codes required to login not to trade

if anyone cares:

  • enabling steam guard auth. doesn't get you a week trade banned

  • disabling it afterwards = switching in the app back to mail-confirmations, doesn't either

  • pretty much compulsory bullcrap for anyone who trades starting on 9 dec.

  • you can enable steam guard auth. and still disable trading confirmations = no need to confirm at all
(@ the cost of getting no support if you lose your items - despite using steam guard auth. - lol) ...

I definitely care about the fourth point - so if I enable the mobile auth, where would I disable the trading confirmations? Thanks.

Ok just another post - you were right! This makes WinAuth viable and I should be able to avoid the escrow. Just gotta take my security in my own hands and accept possible consequences. Thank you very much, this whole affair was making me anxious :-)

This mobile authenticator is really annoying. Whenever I sign out it forgets my computer so I have to reverify.

Steam will soon require the highest level of account security for instant trades.

I only have Telegram for messaging and nothing more.
I won't download Steam crap. Sad news = (
edit: I have a smartphone because Ive got it for free. If it was not so, I would be using a dumb phone like forever with Telegram on Linux.

Next will come the telefax confirmation to make Steam really secure. For every trade or starting a game you need to fax Volvo a handwritten permit for it with your passport. Only then will we be completely safe from all harm.

Next time they will introduce a special hardware device you will need to have plugged in your pc during signing in process, they will send you Steam Guard Code and you will have 30 seconds after login attempt to enter that Steam Guard code on that special device, otherwise it will release an aggressive nerve agent after which you will fall unconscious almost instantly. If anyone trying to help you fail to give you proper antidote in 1 minute, you will die. GAME OVER.

Okay, ... so I live in a side valley to some really small town, and there's close to no cellphone coverage over here.
Consequently I only have a very old "dumb" cellphone for those few times I'm out of town. I don't even want a smartphone,
because those thingies are insecure and an invasion to my privacy.
I'm not much of a trader, but I do move a few steam cards from my trash account to my main account every now and then.
Or trade with a card bot from ym main account. So you're telling me this will be impossible soon enough?
I'm always in favor of more account security.

But ... why ... does it have to be some shitty smartphone app? Other account systems I know, just send me an automated
phone call to a wired phone number ... it works for Ebay, it works for Amazon, why can't Valve come up with something
similar ... what's the security benefit of running an app on a device that's already hijacked by Google or Apple?

Because that takes effort and infrastructure. And their $730,000,000 net profit is just not enough to cover these things.

As often as the Steam servers go down, I truly feel for everyone who does a lot of trading and has to use this "innovative and time saving" app. ;)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I see nothing wrong with having mobile guard, or steam guard protecting users from scammers and thieves.
My account has over 500+ games on it - really could use the extra security.

And while it isn't really a time saving option, it's worth it to know that I won't wake up one day, turn my steam client on, only to see I have no access to my account.

Permalink

Why has the number of games anything to do with account security? Games cannot be stolen and stolen accounts can be reacquired with all the games there.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If it's one thing I've learned, is that hackers and scammers love accounts with a ton of games. It really does happen.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Hackers don't give a single damn about the amount of games, they only look at your inventory. It's just that usually if somebody has thousands of dollars to blow on pointless weapon skins, they also have enough money to blow on games they never play.

this app is very usefull...if u really care about ur account...in the same time u dont really need it...every one knows what he needs ..so i dont see the problem here

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

yes it's very useful who need it but let's give us opt-out like mail confirmation
valve can refuse to retrieve any lost because user mistake except valve bug/exploit off course

Let user decide what they need and take the risk

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

and the user needs to read..they did create a full security system...if they did make it easy to get a code via email..then the hacker who got ur mail will find this app like added nothing to the security..so the app will be useless...so steam gives u a spical code starts with (R) to use it in emrgency status .

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

and that's is user problem not valve.
no need to retrieve item because user mistake

and not forcing user to enable this sh*t
just let user decide want to use it or not by provide opt-out , it simple except valve really want kill trading
