Delete Winners permission changed to Manage Winners permission. Now allows the ability to undelete winners, and to change feedback state.

Nice, that feels like preparation geared towards the heavy re-rolling free games will likely receive. Now... If i can just get support to take care of the 4-5month old tickets needing entrances removed. :P

Another recent change which for some reason is missing from the list, is that the notification counter at the top updates as soon as new messages are posted. Previously it was only updating a new page was loaded.

so it was kicked on before the disabled by default was added. xD

That's agreeing to have my email address provided to the giveaway creator if I win. It's not agreeing to receiving emails from the site.

sentence one is vague enough to cover this too though, as well as sentence two of the terms of service:

The Website is offered subject to your acceptance without modification of all of the terms and conditions contained herein and all other operating rules, policies (including, without limitation, SteamGifts' Privacy Policy and guidelines that may be published from time to time on this Website (collectively, the "Agreement").

About the email notifications for when your giveaway ends. Are you sending one for every single giveaway? This may not be good for people that make mass giveaways. I don't know anything about programming or websites, but it may be a good idea to put some kind of limit on the number of notifications that can be set within a certain time period. Maybe set it so that it checks and doesn't send a notification if one was sent in the past 10 or 20 minutes. That way if someone puts up 100 or 200 giveaways for an event, they won't get flooded with emails, but they will still get one if they want it.

Edit: I also don't know how email accounts get marked as spam/junk, but I would imagine if you send out too many of the same thing to people that had a lot of giveaways end, the emails may get moved to the spam/junk folder and people will not get them unless they manually add the email address.

yeah the spam thing is a big one - years ago when we sent a mass mailout, and things went a bit wrong, we were flagged as a spam source and kicked from our email provider :P - not sure how it works now, but not something steamgifts would want to be identified as I think :)

Hello d3m4n,
5 of your giveaways have ended.

all 5x were seperate GAs with the exact same end time, but only one single email. unsure what happens in cases where end time is only a minute apart each though. ^^

E-mail notifications

Not criticizing, but I do find it interesting that you felt informing us about the impending [BundleStars] referral change was worth doing [despite being pretty normal element for a website to have], and yet didn't give forewarning (and pre-implementation of the account settings component) for e-mail spam, something which is not only pretty universally understood to be disagreeable, but which is especially well-recognized to anyone familiar with SG [ie, "no generic thanks"].

Also, adding in e-mails-on-win while also stating that bot-use is against site rules sends out pretty conflicting messages (as the entire purpose of sending out e-mail notifications is to cater to inactive users). Now that things are so in favor of such an approach, perhaps you should implement Captcha, as per previous suggestions. As long as you make it a once-per-(random, average of 10)-entries thing, it'd be minimal stress to normal users, while locking out auto-joiners after just a few giveaways.
Well, or just add it to any entry within the first minute of a giveaway having been posted- that'd cut out most auto-joiners right there, at least until the scripts compensate. :P

Starting with your latter point, a vague reference in an edit to an existing thread a couple of days beforehand.. that's well far enough out of the scope of what I was discussing that it's essentially irrelevant to it. Similarly, there never was an announcement- there was an 'I think e-mail notifications are nice. Do you think e-mail notifications are nice? Yeah, they're kinda nice.' entry within the holiday announcement, but that didn't give any element of forewarning. Hell, if 'Plans' hadn't been at the top of the section, we'd not even known he was actually considering ever implementing such, given the abstract phrasing used. :P
Also, you seem to have overlooked a key point of my comment- that the ability to toggle off the setting beforehand was missing. A proper announcement would have only been the minimal gesture, allowing users especially disinclined toward notifications to have edited their giveaway plans off of the notice (and again: two vague, half-hidden comments don't count toward that). More appropriately, there should have been a proper announcement, along with a chance to opt-out beforehand.

Mind you, this didn't affect me in any way- I don't ever use e-mail for anything but SG and random internet promos, and I had no giveaways ending or won within the timeframe. Likewise, as I said, I wasn't intending to at all criticize cg- just noting that it seemed a weird difference in perspective that he thought potentially spamming a few unlucky users with e-mails would be less of a faux pas than not alerting us to referrals before implementing them. That runs contrary to my own considerations, and what I've observed of the community's. I may be mistaken on that latter bit- but then, my only point was to note how curious the contrast was, not to make any argument; so there's really no issue even if I am.

In short, my first paragraph in my last post was just an observation, my actual point of discussion in that post was the last section.

Well, my point was that this seemed more relevant to make a thread of any sort for, than the last topic did. As I wasn't criticizing, I was more pointing out how cg's valuations for what was worthy of public discussion seemed at odds with my own expectations. Do note you're the one who specifically brought up announcements- I didn't reference them at the start. :)

You can just set your script to check SG every 5 minutes (or even less if you may wish) and it can be done in like 5 lines of code.

Oh, you mean, and give you a prompt directly on your computer?
I thought most auto-join scripts in use were similar to typical SG browser script offerings- freely available, and thus used mostly by 'normal' site users (who'd lack the coding expertise or interest to edit the code in the manner you're mentioning). I really don't know a thing about the structure of those scripts, so I suppose some could already do what you mention. Nevertheless, it doesn't change the impressions I indicated (as is supported by my own mentioning of them)- and impressions were all that were being discussed.

That said, you're actually addressing the lead-in, and not the actual suggestion I was making [of implementing some sort of basic anti-auto-join measures]. :P

as the entire purpose of sending out e-mail notifications is to cater to inactive users

i wouldn't quite say that. i think with this in place, we should no longer have to provide proof of contact in order to re-roll or force feedback on gifts. -- at least i would hope that will be a good side effect of this new feature... idk.

E-mail notifications are now being sent to users when they win a game, or when one of their giveaways end.

As long as the key is not sent in email and still requires users to login to the site, I'm very much in favor of this change. Thank you!

these emails encourage me to use autojoin scripts to be on a par with the rest of the userbase. might as well do it since it's not against the rules. 👍

The email notifications are already showing up as junk mail. I have my giveaway ended notifications disabled, but I received a notification that I won a giveaway 2 days ago and it was in my junk folder. I marked it as not junk so I wont have that problem anymore, but I suspect it will show as junk for everyone else (using Hotmail, Outlook, or Live) until they notice and add the email address.
