It would be rather silly to be proud of anyone's nationality. I could see people feeling pride or being ashamed about the behavior of their compatriots, but feeling pride of where you were born is just silly. Symbols are for the simple-minded.

Symbols are what everything is made up of. words are symbols, signs and pictures are symbols. heros and villian symbolize something. don't diminish the power of symbols, they have more power than we give credit for.

I don't base any pride on my nationality. I pride myself on things I accomplish and am ashamed of my shortcomings and failures.

Proud to be from Argentina, thgough we don't have much of a gamer community, mainly because of the problems we have to buy games in US dollars or euros, cause of our ridiculous laws about foreign currencies (they are killing the country). But I'm always proud to say I am argentinian while playing online.

I see no reason to feel pride over something i do not feel familiar with, nor with what my country has done (Argentina), i refer myself as an individual, nothing more; my pride is based on my actions.

Why would I be proud or ashamed of something that's actually a genetic accident?
Comment has been collapsed.
accident? so your parents don't practice selective breeding and choose a mate to provide the best genetics for their offspring? How inconsiderate of them to future generations. what if they married somebody with a genetic predisposition to breastcancer or something else easily tested for and avoided?

That question is ridiculous.
Also, in my country, it is not common to believe that people from your country are drunks and thieves. My country is full of beliefs about ethnicities and people from specific countries, but that combination doesn't apply to any common belief about any country, for those who live in mine.

On the whole I am proud to be English, and British, at least for some of the things they have done, but there are also many things in the history of the UK I am not proud of. For instance we have a great history of culture, especially literature and music, and we have brought modern innovations to much of the world, but we usually brought them by force and went to war with rulers who wouldn't trade with us so... neither.

Ambivalent.
To clarify, I was born in England and live in New Zealand. I'm a citizen of the world above all else; I'm only British because of an accident of birth so I don't feel any great jingoistic pride for my birth-country's accomplishments nor do I take responsibility for its shortcomings. I think to do so would be just as ridiculous as feeling proud of the accomplishments/ashamed of the misdeeds of other people with big noses.
I'm not worried about revealing my nationality because of what preconceptions others may have. If I didn't reveal my nationality they'd only pigeon-hole me based on some other trait.

I have to agree wholeheartedly. Born in Costa Rica, living in the U.S., it becomes pointless to see people by hypothetical borders and establish preconceived notions thereof. That's not to say that you don't have a hilarious accent, being from Britain or from living in New Zealand, either way. Stereotypes exist for a reason, kids.

I'm neither, really. There are things I like about my Australia and things I don't. I've never considered myself patriotic in the slightest and I don't make a point to celebrate on our national holiday, but I'm not against it either. I'm also half Kiwi but I pretty much ignore that fact since the last time I went to NZ I was about six, and I don't have any living family members over there whose names I can put to faces.

both. I'm ashamed because even Germans reduce themselves to the second World War, also there are some anti-germans, like the antifa, just a bunch of retarded people imo. proud of the other part of our history, also we're called the land of poets and thinkers for a reason. I'm proud and pleased to live in Germany, definitely one of the highest developed countries, worldwide respect for what we achieved and high quality products, i even claim the EU wouldn't be possible (anymore) without Germany. /patriotism out

Estonian, ashamed. Crime level is high, teenagers are rude and are addicted to alcohol and drugs.

It is relieving to know people around are also feel same way. I also don't feel belonging to any nationality but it is written in my ID. Btw here is what's happening here now: showdiscontent.com
Sorry for the bother...

Why am I asking this question here?
It is common opinion that most people from my country are drunks and thieves (yes, probably many of them are ;( ). And many of them are acting like kids and boors even while playing online, I'm very ashamed of them.
When I play games online I never reveal what country I am from.
How about you? Are you proud of ashamed to be of your nationality?
