Why am I asking this question here?
It is common opinion that most people from my country are drunks and thieves (yes, probably many of them are ;( ). And many of them are acting like kids and boors even while playing online, I'm very ashamed of them.
When I play games online I never reveal what country I am from.
How about you? Are you proud of ashamed to be of your nationality?

I'm kind of neutral about it. Slightly ashamed at times. Most people don't even know about the country's existance. It is becoming a little more popular now due to its corruption being displayed on the media and immigration being at an all time high.

I do live in England, however that does not necessarily have to mean I'm English (or British), does it? I am originally from Latvia and emigrated a couple of years ago.

Haha, you're quite close. The minimal wage is about 8 times smaller than in the UK, while the prices of groceries and services remain the same as in the UK.
Edit: Eh, only now noticed your edit, I thought your original post was supposed to be taken as a joke, didn't know about Latveria.

Are you now a subject of England and paying taxes? That pretty much makes you English.

Officially I could become British after residing here for 5 or more years, during which I work and pay taxes and/or study. If I'm correct I'd also have to take a test regarding the British history etc.

Not sure what you mean by that. If you're suggesting me to forget about Latvia, I won't have to put much effort into doing that.

I really don't care about my nationality, ashamed of the country I live maybe but I don't feel atached to that. As Doug Stanhope said once:

"Nationalism does nothing but teach you how to hate people that you never met. And all of a sudden you take pride in accomplishments you had no part in whatsoever".

I'm a proud portuguese. Sure our politicians are corrupt and all that but I love our country, our language and our people.

First of all, I would say we live in a peace of heaven since we are very pacific people. We had the "Carnation Revolution" where we overthrew the authoritarian dictatorship regime without firing a single shot despite being a military coup. That was in 1974 but last year we had the biggest manifestation since then. There were between 660,000 and 1 million people and there was no violence. I would like to know in how many countries of the world such a thing would be possible.
Second, we have a beatifull country!
Third, I love our language. Seriously. I think portuguese, at least the one speaked on Portugal (I don't know that much about portuguese in other countries to do an analysis) is a refined language that when mastered can provide such masterpieces of literature. I'm not talking about the story of a book; that can be translated and it will be a masterpiece in any language since people can grasp the meaning anyway. I'm talking about the way phrases can be constructed. When you translate that, well, the soul of the original text is lost. This may be why we often tell we are a country of poets.
Fourth, I'm also proud of our History.
Last but definitely not least, the people. This is an extension of the first point. Besides pacific, we are also very solidary people. We like to help people. Everytime there is a campaign to give money or food or whatever is necessary to people in need, there is a massive participation even though we live in a dire economic situation right now. For example, today 1st of June, there is a campaign throughout the country for people to give food to the Portuguese Food Bank Against Hunger and if you want tomorrow I will edit this post and tell you how much food was collected.

tl;dr: Portugal is awesome and you should visit us if you have the chance, you will certainly like it (besides, we desperately need your money xD).

I'm from India . I'm not really proud , but I feel good when I think about its tradition , rich culture , civilization and universal tolerance . many invaders including Arab , British , French , Portuguese etc invaded India but India never invaded any country in her last 100000 years of history. we treat others with great respect and honor .

I feel bad when I think about present day politicians . they are totally submerged in corruption and thus India is not progressing fast enough . we still have lots of people living below poverty level where as one can find many Indians in worlds top 100 rich people . distribution of wealth is pathetic .

Corruption existed long before India was even a name. How else would old school monarchies fall by the wayside and Socialism and Communism took their place?

sorry. Gandhi. the (first i think?)female prime minister that tried to forcibly neuter the poorer regions without even a basic idea of the healthcare required to do it so a lot of people died but "oh well we have more". I typo/misspelled it.

I think everyone has things from their nationality that they are both proud and ashamed of. Try to focus not on the bad, but the good. I'm pretty proud of my nationality, but then sometimes I think my nationality is the dumbest one on planet earth. I'm sure that others feel the same way sometimes.

depends on context mostly.

Suck it europe, for example.

(All of europe....also canada, africa, and south america, and all of asia, india, almost forgot the middle east...so much the middle east....Basically compared to everybody but australia and parts of japan we're the best because everybody else in the world just sucks so damned hard.)

but things like [this]www.cbsnews.com/8301-207_162-57586692/the-voice-adam-levine-explains-i-hate-this-country-remark makes me sad. (the witch hunt and jumping on him over it, not the comment which was obviously taken far out of context.)

or worse, most of the "race" bullshit...kfc is racist, tiny tina, ect.
I suppose it'd be different if the idiocy wasn't artificially created and maintained but it is.

then again I'm also in one of the few countries that actively teaches its population to hate it intentionally for some reason. so its not surprising.

I can't tell you how many papers the public school I went to assigned me to write about how our founders were pirates and slavers, how much better off the world would be without america, the evils of capitalism or how fat and racist we are....seriously. I think my teacher was the offspring of old school soviet sleepers or something its the only explanation for that class.
