I can't see how the CEO being in the hospital would cause issues with paying the Devs, the accounting department should be the ones signing the checks and the second in charge should be able to give the ok to send the checks out. Unless the CEO was actually doing everything, which is not good unless you are a very small company, and I don't believe they were.
So I guess just to be on the safe side, everyone should make sure they have a copy of all their unused keys.

My interpretation is heavily influenced by the quote below...
While his absence has, as I said above, compounded things over the last week or so, it was and is the lack of automated payment systems which created this bottleneck, and that is where our focus is currently.
I'm inclined to believe that the inclusion of his hospitalization was essentially a courtesy remark, one of those "little things" we occasionally tack onto a statement to further justify the situation. As in: he was arrested for murder, larceny and jaywalking or I won the lottery, married a supermodel and bought a new pair of shoes. It's just one of their many woes... of course, my assumption may be incorrect as I've previously worked at a small firm whose owner preferred to micromanage the business, thus causing it to grind effectively to a halt whenever he took a vacation; it may be that the integration of this "automated payment system" required their CEO's approval.

Playing devils advocate here, but you do understand payment authorisation and cheque-signing is often something done by directors or people of authority in a company, right? The accounts department usually can't do it, for obvious fraud purposes.

Should is nothing like can. If the companies bank only accepts the signatory from the company director, that's that. Nothing else can be done.

Wow, I read a statement last week of them stating everything was fine and they were even looking at exploring new avenues of growth.

Just thought, I still have a load of unused Desura keys (300+), some of which will spawn Steam keys but I need to create alternative Desura accounts to activate them. Think I'll get on that just in case.
Comment has been collapsed.
I have more than one Desura accounts for occasions like these, where I have multiple Desura keys from the same game.

Devs need to get out of the habit of distributing steam keys through Desura. If I buy two bundles for example I shouldn't have to set up a second desura account to get my second steam key. Having paid for two steam keys that's what I expect to recieve through the site where I made my purchase not a third party.

Everyone that still has unused Steam keys on Desura, maybe it's time to get your Steam keys now ?
Maybe to download every game you want to play ?
Get all your Desura keys and activate them on Desura so you can still get a Steam key, when offered ?
Comment has been collapsed.
Some developers provide Steam keys through Desura, it's now the time to get these keys desura.com/collection.
Desura offers DRM free downloads, the games you bought and paid for and those you want to play, now is the time to download these.
If you still have unused Desura keys, those keys that provide Steam keys through desura.com/collection it's best to activate those and get your Steam keys now.

New development on this, but the employee who did P.R. for Desura, even dealing with the aftermath of the dev payment problems? She was not made aware of the bankruptcy by the company, she found out via twitter

They're not exactly notable in terms of getting steam keys unlike Groupees or Indie Royale.

I think the bigger problem here for gamers (not gamedevs!) is IndieRoyale with it's outstanding Steam Keys if no one is payed to update the platform. I'm sure someone will write a scraper for Desura that backs up your library or something like this. Or maybe GOGs Galaxy Client can pick up the pieces. I myself can hardly think of a decent Desura exclusive title (at least since DeadCore is also on Steam) that I don't own elsewhere.
There is also a clear indicator when this all began: with the re-design of IndieRoyale making it look like some grey area business with its incoherent design and sub-par artworks. Still miss the old hand-drawn illustrations.

Itch.io is nice for individual games but a pain to handle a collection of games:
just discovered http://itch.io/my-purchases/claimed which makes it a bit better but still the site behaves very obsure.
GOG galaxy seems to be promising when it comes to cross platform playing, so called cross-play. At a time even Origin Added Games to your library you owned on Steam. One can dream that this era of exclusiveness will end. And Humble Bundle is the only one that integrates the mobile space with their Android Client. It's pity that the game world has become so siloed. Maybe there is a space for a cross platform clearing system model that offers your access to your DRM-free games wherever you bought them. One can only hope.

Desura says it has ~4000 people online right now, that's about a 2000th of the current steam stats. Not hard to see, that this can't possibly support the business operation Desura claims to be.
Comment has been collapsed.
Game stores potentially operate at low cost. Basically staffing & hosting costs. Money that flows in gets directed to the devs (minus the share%). Desura could easily operate at those 4k online people if those people would spend like 10$ a month (assuming a 20-30% share). Btw iirc desura's staff was like 4-5 peops before they gotten bought by linden back then.

So... No more IndieRoyale or Desura, I would assume.

You don't seem to understand what bankruptcy means. Chrysler went into bankruptcy once in the late 1970s, and again in 2009. It emerged from it both times. GM went into bankruptcy back in 2009 as well. But somehow old guys with erectile difficulties can still get their Corvettes, and won't have to resort to buying guns...

I know exactly what bankruptcy means, so you can piss off with that attitude.

indieroyale still working. should I quickly redeem my unused keys? :/

Is there anywhere with a convenient list of all the games that required you to visit a special page within Desura to get a steam key? The ones that you could get from your collection page are easy enough to find, these ones not so much. Been going through the "keys added" group but a separate list of ones of this type would be great.
E.g. If you had Slinki from a bundle and went here while logged in you could get your Steam key - http://www.desura.com/games/slinki/keys They did it like that for quite a few games.

Yes. You go to your collection and choose instead of DRM-free Steam keys.
Warning Kingdom Wars -> Desura key = Steam key !
Comment has been collapsed.
Thanks, I think I made a mistake there. I can see that the same key for Slinki on that link is available from my collection page now. I thought that the keys you could access from links like that posted in the keys added group or the old key tracking thread on here meant it wouldn't be on your collection page for some reason.

Pizzarian developer and Sym developer refused to give free Steam keys.
BUT if you bought SYM you have to PM the developer.

There is a lot of news coming, so I'm going to bullet point these and then expand on it. We have been far from idle over the weekend, and this is what I can tell you today:
-Tony was released from the hospital late Sunday, and while still having to confront ongoing serious health issues, he and I are working closely to move things forward. It is making things slower than we would like, but progress is being made.
-Manual developer payments are resuming, and those manual payouts will continue throughout the process of getting automation in place
-There will be a new forum and news page coming as soon as possible
-Desura is not going out of business, we are not in financial crisis. We are moving forward and actively working toward partnerships and opportunities for growth.

What to believe ? The bankruptcy or the PR-statement ?
Since almost no one was aware of the financial situation I'll go with bankruptcy.
Comment has been collapsed.
This statement was made on the 27th, over a week ago. It was also made by LadyAijou, the one who confirmed that she lost her job in the bankruptcy after learning about it on twitter today. This just shows that the staff had no idea right down until the end.
Comment has been collapsed.
That's not the statement that declares bankruptcy, that was a statement I chose to include to refer to them not paying developers. The bits that say that they've declared bankruptcy are the tweets, since the company itself is yet to make an official tweet regarding it.

Been following this personally for a while, but as in the title, they've declared bankruptcy. This all started with them having issues with paying developers, which was put down to a number of factors, including the hospitalisation of their CEO.
More recently than this, Graeme Boxall @uncomplex, an employee who dealt with IndieRoyale was discussing how he may be out of a job.. After elaborating that he wasn't fired from his position, and was waiting for an announcement in regards to Indieroyale and Bad JuJu, he finally confirmed the situation here.
Unfortunately, we don't know what will happen to Indieroyale, Desura, or even the developers who are yet to be paid as of yet. This is because Badjuju as a whole is staying pretty tight-lipped on the whole thing, it seems. Hopefully, everything gets resolved somehow.
