Not that it was especially good but a gritty firefighting remake could actually be a fantastic game.
EDIT: Actually, for my serious answer, I would love a reboot of the Pandemonium! series (with hot Nikki, not the first one). I loved those games.

I want a remake of R-Type Delta, Shadow of the Beast, Xenon 2 Megablast (possibly maintaining the same nostalgic theme https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2w-tiRnac2k), Barbarians.
Slave Zero, Requiem: Avenging Angel, Tombi, Pandemonium, Shogo: Mobile Armor Division (trashed classic :D), Sega Marine Fishing.

Monster Ranchers. Doesn't matter which one, but I want them back in my life again ;_;.

It's nice but not the same. It is missing the tournaments, and me spending hours going through my grandparents cds to see what they unlock :P.

I never played the Monster Rancher games, myself. They were really good? I'd always sort of assumed they were an off-brand version of Pokemon.
I do remember the cartoon though. As a kid who didn't watch Pokemon or any of its competitors regularly, I remember liking Monster Rancher because it seemed more grim and in earnest.

It was nothing like Pokemon. Imagine being a personal trainer to a creature that competed in tournaments. Each creature had a fixed lifespan before they died so your goal was to strengthen them as best as possible in order to progress. You then hand an unlock system where you unlocked new creatures via a random number generator. You would go to a shrine and be prompted to remove the game disc and replace it with a cd that you had at home that would determine what creature it would unlock.
The series itself was rather niche and the western audience for it is close to being dead but I can dream .... I can dream ;_;.

Ok, that does sound pretty cool. As a kid I would have loved trying out random CDs to see what was on them. (I'd had a similar idea years ago--that a GB game ought to include a bar-code scanner so kids could look for loot when they go out shopping with parents--I had no idea a game had actually done something like that.)

Mhmm, though my grandfather would disagree. He was never happy when I raided his cd collection :P.

speaking of mech fighters, i'd love to see a new Virtual On, or a hd rerelease on steam...

A remake of Aliens would be good, too. They sort of did one, already (Aliens 2000), but a real reboot would be so much better.

The Zork series done in VR (once it is a bit further along) with someone like Morgan Freeman narrating the warnings/in-depth descriptions(hints)/death messages. They were great as text based games and could be as VR I believe, add the right narrator and they might even pull off a "Stranger Than Fiction" feel but with the threat of Grues rather than death by author.

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri aka SMAC
edit: and no, Beyond Earth doesn't count

I played that game a whole lot for a while in college. (It was an old game at that point, but still very fun.) I was hopeful that Beyond Earth would be a spiritual successor.
I take it that it was not? I've never tried to pick it up due to not currently having the kind of time one needs to get into a Civ game.

I dont own it, but from watching videos and feedback from my friends . . . not even close.
I just want SMAC with modern graphics, bug fixes, minor gameplay tweaks, and a more friendly user interface.

It's easy to find a full version copy (it was made freeware years ago). It's somewhat harder to get it to run right.

I was talking to my brother tonight and we were reminiscing about the great games Epic Megagames produced back when we were kids, especially One Must Fall: 2097. It's a fighting game that you play as the pilot of a many-story-tall robot. There were multiple pilots with different strengths, a verity of very distinct robots, arena hazards, and it all ran smoothly on our 486. What's not to love?
That got me thinking, how has that not been remade? With 'Pacific Rim' surely this is an idea whose time has come again. Or at least, I wish it was. (Apparently it was remade once already in the early 2000s, but that version wasn't any good.)
What are some other games that people would really like to see remade or updated? Lots of things just keep getting sequels even though they lack merit. What are some things that went away and shouldn't have?
