For my niece. Shes tired of sonic all star racing and before you say it no she won't like secret of the magic crystals and besides she won't understand a thing.

Something easy and sandboxy.

I should add that her english isn't very good and castle of illusion was too hard for her so she would need something easy and simple to understand.

Also the game has to be on steam and easy, shes really bad at platformers.

After some consideration I have decided that I will force her to play bad rats.

World of Goo, any LEGO game, maybe FEZ. Or just try something completely different - play with her outside, just like abaris919 and loczek187 suggested.

Judging by the fan-base, this seems like the perfect choice.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent
You play an explorer in a fairy-tale castle, discover wondrous myths and have to do puzzles and platforming. The game can be played purely on the visuals, the only reading is on the background story.

If the violence isn't an issue: Path of Exile. It is 100% free and it can be as easy/casual or as complex as the player wants it to be. I don't know how many languages it supports, but the story doesn't really need to be understood for the game to be enjoyed. .02

Spore. Sure the gameplay isn't exactly top-notch but the creative element is great. She might have trouble with the endgame 'space phase', but putting the game on easy difficulty (and occasionally coming across to help) would probably work!

There is always Triple Town.

Little Inferno. It will teach her what can happen when she plays with fire and the answer is 'fun'.

How about Botanicula? It's a short game, but it looks adorable, and is language-independent.

ok so the kids always go on my computer and these are their top picks if it helps:
Plants vs zombies, itzabitzas (my two year old can play this but the older girls love it too; especially the zoo one), wandering willows (definitely recommend this one for little girls), oddly enough limbo, depending on her skill level she might enjoy costume quest, and trine 2 (don't get trine one its not that exciting.
Oh I almost forgot peggle and virtual villagers those can be gold for kids.
