Yep, the number 12 points to ARK: Solvival Evolved in a post Epic made earlier this year when they updated their store with coloured irons for games that you haven't downloaded yet. This update is mentioned in this post on the exit sign where this car is turning right. This might be confusing, but it does make more sense if you read chinese. However accoding to the past clues, the first guesses of games have never been right, so who knows

They re-used the last symbol in the last picture, it was also used for the Bioshock collection. I never did figure out what it's supposed to represent, a fish maybe?

I don't know what the last symbol is.

For the re-use of symbols, it took me a while, but the explanation is simple: with the last sequence, the vault does not open because the sequence contains at least one symbol which is wrong, maybe more.

For BioShock, I think the first two symbols were right, and the last one was wrong.

For Maneater, I am not sure if the last one is wrong. If the last one were correct, I would say something like a sonar, which would be how the shark find its preys, or something alone these lines. I think whales and dolphins work this way, not sure about sharks.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Oh, I did not realize some symbols could be wrong I was trying to figure them all out (after the game was revealed).

I don't know, it kind of looks odd to be sonar, but on the other hand I can't really make anything of it.

Any idea on the first symbol for Maneater? It seems to be in all the pictures but I don't get it, unless it's another red herring.

Edit: Also I don't think sharks use sonar (dolphin's do), though in this game they seem to do?

it's safe to say epic is doing what steam couldn't despit the miss of many foncionalities that steam offering right now.
and i believe if epic will continue doing this over the next year with giving away new games and excluives it will dethrone steam, one thing they should focus on is their client ( adding achievments , rewards and a better communication platforme ..)
in the last 5-7 years the steam sale is garbage , i remember when they were doing a flash sale during summer sale offering AAA games for a good price less then the cost of the game during sale
just a point of view out of nowhere

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

i personally don't think epic will dethrone steam exactly, just provide actual competition for the PC digital marketplace. there are a good handful of people that despise epic games for one reason or another. heck, some people refuse to buy games that "shilled out to epic" and some people (including myself) only have the Epic launcher for free games.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

^this, so much this.
Epic has definitely managed to establish itself as an actual competitor in the PC market, but so far has little chance of coming close to dethroning Steam. After all a bunch of us only bothered to create an account there just for the freebies with no real intention of actually buying anything from their store. Personally, I'd rather wait for a game to show up on Steam or to become free on Epic than buying it from Epic.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't know even know if I'd consider epic as much competition to steam. Yeah occasionally people will buy exclusives from epic, and when they had $10 off coupons people took advantage of that.. but do people buy games at full price or during normal sales? Probably not. It's probably a pitifully low amount of people buying during those periods. They also scrapped the $10 coupons for now so that's gone as well.

True. I suspect a good deal of their earnings actually come from selling DLCs and microtransactions for free games.

Epic Sales Data

During their spat with Apple, Epic did release the following snippits. They pay between $50k and $1.5m flat fee for the games they give away, and that about 7% of people claiming the free games go onto make a purchase. Data is a bit out of date, but it gives an indication as to where the conversion rate may be now.

You act as if giving away 2 crap games a week is spectacular. There are literally 6 or 7 freebies on Steam every week. They just don't come from Steam. So what's the difference?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

give me one good title steam gave away since this year started ?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

As I said in my comment - steam doesn't give away anything. It just offers a platform for publishers to put their games onto.

Humble has been giving away free keys, developers have been giving away free keys. And Steam actually has policy that if you hand out game for free outside of steam, then you need to do it on steam store as well. And there have been several cases of games being free to add for periods of times.

You are completely misunderstanding the scope of these both launchers.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Thank you! I was just coming to say that.
I have nothing specific against Epic. In fact I was happy Steam was going to have some competition to balance out the market until I saw what kind of tactics Epic was using, but whatever.
This being said, Epic is not in a position they will be able to maintain very long. Paying devs for exclusivity, offering massive discounts and giving away freebies is not a long term plan. They are a business. The drop in quality of the giveaways and the diminishing number of exclusives are expected.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Giving away free games is drop in the ocean IMO

Steam could have done it but they don't need to. It is more like democracy - everyone is free to make their game free if they want to and Steam doesn't interfere in what's being done (apart from taking in their take from sales)
Epic is constantly paying/bribing developers for them to be able to give away the games. They pay for estimated amount of keys that could have been sold while game is being given away for free. The games are not falling out of the air.

Only thing it does is stabilizes Epics place in the market - the younger folk who don't have libraries in Steam will have 100-200 games already on Epic, making that their main client.. being more keen on buying there. Maybe it will work out, but who knows.

It might become good competition for Steam but it has a huuuuuuuuge road to even think about dethroning monster as Steam.
I have now more then 1000 gams on Steam. And it offers shitload more functionalities, is lot more stable and more user friendly. Even with all freebies on Epic I even consider Uplay account to be more important to me with 30-40 games I have on it.

I have bought the Iratus bonus DLCs and installed it, it is the first game on Epicgames store I have actually installed. And only now I see how totally bare-bones the store and launcher is. There is no proper forums, support or anything and the DLCs doesn't even have the content they describe. Someone knows of the way how to get the soundtrack or guide which should be part of the DLCs? I had no luck when trying to find it on my PC or any information on internet except how to access the bonus content on Steam which is not useful for me.

I don't have the DLC but maybe you can try this:
From the Library, find the game then click on the three-dots button, then click "Manage". Besides the "UNINSTALL" button there is a small button with folder symbol, click it and it will open the game's install directory.
I hope it works.

Hi, thanks for reply. Yes, you can open the folder where the game is installed like this, unfortunately there is no pdf file or any music files in the installation folder. I even tried to find it in the Users directory or where Epic launcher is installed, but with no luck. In the installation directory there are only two small info files for the DLC. The DLC is installed, because I can see the extra minions in game, but the pdf guide or the soundtrack is nowhere to be found. So I was curious if Epic has some extra place for bonus content material, but it should probably be in the game installation directory where is nothing.

Thanks. Probably on Epic store it should be the same, but there is no bonus content or mp3 folder in the Iratus directory at all, so I've sent email to Epic support and I will see if they will tell me where to find it or why it is not there.

Did support ever get back to you with where it was located?

Permalink

The support gave me link to where I can contact the developer, so I wrote to them about the issue and in 2 or 3 days the game was updated and the bonus content is now located in the game directory for me. So it was resolved and the game now includes the bonus content on Epic store.

Let me get this straight. You don't see a reason to play a game if it doesn't have achievements? Meaning the actual game itself doesn't matter unless you can unlock little icons that say, "YOU DID THE THING!" ?

Imagine the poor developers and artists who put all that effort in to make actual games when there are people who are really only interested in showing others that they achieved something.
