Cake... or Pie?

I think cake (when done well) trumps even the best of pies, but pie is forever delicious. Nom nom nom.

A good cake trumps any pie in terms of taste and deliciousness in my opinion. However, pies are more versatile; not only are they more portable, but you can have more varieties of pie ranging from the sweet to the savoury. In fact you can have a whole meal composed of just pies.

So... which is better? Well if I had to go with one I'd go with cake without hesitation, but if you were to ask me which one I'd pick if I can only have one for the rest of my life, then I might have a more difficult time with that. Might be a toss-up at that point.
