Welcome to my first train. I loved FMV games back in the day and i want to share the love of this low budget interactive movies that tommy wissau wish had directed.

Train Lvl4+ only sorry :(

The first one i ever played was Grabriel Knight 2: The beast Within and the last one i played was Contradiction - the all-video murder mystery adventure. I recommend both you can find GK2 in gog and Contradictionin steam :)

Whats your favorite or the first FMV game you ever played?

First would probably be Dragon's Lair or Space Ace. Such wonderful animation from the hand of Don Bluth.

Some other memorables over the years:

  • Night Trap
The infamous Night Trap. It was quite controversial at the time for it's themes. Kinda funny when you compare this to something like Grand Theft Auto these days... The premise was actually pretty interesting, though gameplay execution could have been tweaked. The acting and story are pretty fun, really like playing an active role in a so-bad-it's-good horror movie.

  • Twisted
A fun little boardgame-variety show on the 3DO. This was great in multiplayer, totally random and hilarious (at least it was when I was 14, don't know how well it has held up!)

  • Rebel Assault
It was Star Wars and FMV! Enough said.

  • Sewer Shark
An interesting little rail shooter, I remember this mostly for nostalgic reasons -- I think it was one of the first home console FMV games I tried on the Sega CD.

  • Make My Video: Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch
Ah, Mark Wahlberg. Yes, let's remember your roots :)

Command and Conquer/Red Alert, if they count.

I have an obscure murder mystery game called Murder Mystery 4: Who Killed Taylor French? The Case of the Undressed Reporter which isn't particularly good.

Talkin about FMV... you know what I think would work as a reboot? Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego as an FMV game. That would be awesome and instinct tells me it would be highly marketable.

Maybe the girl from Roundabout could be cast in the lead role? I think a mostly silent/mysterious Carmen Sandiego would work too!

One of either Night Trap or Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective. Can't remember which was first but I had them at about the same time on the Sega/Mega CD.

Also remember having a demo for Slam City with Scottie Pippen , which for a demo I played a lot.

I think that the first one was Realms of the Haunting. I'm not exactly sure how I found about it, could have been that me and my older brother discovered playable demo from some demo CD back then (quite many gaming magazines had these CDs with some demos). After messing up with the demo and laughing to the menacing demon voice "You are limited to the demo area only", I went and bought the game with the money I had saved from my weekly pocket money.

I remember tha the game was quite hard but there weren't exactly many dead ends with sudden deaths (I remember only one or two but you could always run out of ammo and die that way). I really loved that you could inspect all your inventory items, talk about them and ask questions from your companion. The story felt really rich and engaging, the puzzles were quite logical and the acting was really good. To be honest I may have rosetinted glasses on and I wouldn't really want to play the game again today, I'm a bit afraid that the experience would be really different now than back then. I have been tempted for it, you can be sure of it, especially after I got the game from some bundle.

After the reply I just had to search for OST via Youtube. Oh boy, oh boy... Should I install or not, I'm a bit afraid of the disappointment :D I wonder what happened to the lead actor (David Tuomi, could a fellow countryman by the surname but can't really be sure... not much info about him anywhere I suppose), haven't read anything about him after the game. Also the ending of the game was a bit puzzling, there could have been a sequel :) And just as I'm about the press 'Submit Comment' there comes the piano on the soundtrack. Such a clichรฉ but went really well with the house! Such a spooky place!

It does not hold very well for current standards... The graphics were old even back then; plus, the control scheme was unchangeable in the UK version, you must make sure you get the version where controls can be reassigned. And the game was quite hard...

But I still think it was awesome. :D

I have two versions: one with original CDs (since I live in Finland I suppose it is UK version? Usually all the movies etc are :)) and one on Steam, whatever version that is. I think that we didn't change the keys on the CD version but can't be 100% sure since it was way back. Some players have had probs with resolution and fullscreen, but I think that there are workarounds for those.

Yeah, I remember the game being hard. The items were sometimes a bit difficult to find, combat was ok (just remember to conserve ammo in the beginning, at least once you get some better melee than fists!) Also I remember the really frustrating scene with trying to find small brains, I'm sure you remember that too ;D

The only one I can distinctly remember at least having FMV elements was Rama, a PC game from Sierra based on the Arthur C. Clarke book.
