These days you can find most of basic apps and things to work as alternate to Windows apps in Linux, The problem is if you use some specific apps that are only available on Windows. They are either possible to run via wine or not possible to run at all.

Few years ago i switched to Linux as my main OS but unfortunately as Photostop and some games are still not available on Linux i must use Windows too.

From my experience Linux is much better OS to use than Windows. At least for my line of work. It is much more stable, never crashes if you break something you can restore without much of a hustle, you can backup and restore it just by copying files. And it's Basically plug and play.

Recently i switched out my SSD from my PC and put it in in Laptop and Linux booted without problems, while my Windows crashed and i was not able to restore nor boot it even when i switched SSD back on my PC.

I use Xubuntu which is light weight variant of Ubuntu. I don't like new Unity interface and it takes alot of impact on performance.

My main desktop has a swappable hard drive tray system in it that I pulled out of an old fileserver. When I feel the need to try a new OS I install it on a new hard drive and keep the old ones in case I want them again rather than reinstalling. Currently I'm switching between Win XP, Win 7 and Ubuntu, but mostly using Win 7.

I've also got some older machines that I use with legacy audio hardware going back to an Atari ST which I think is on GEM TOS 2.06 and some Macs that I mostly decommissioned and brought home from work. Those include a nice MacBook Pro that I use as my main laptop as it was free and that I used to do a surprising amount of gaming on until Steam completely stopped working on OS X Snow Leopard.

That is something I'm currently really vexed about - it is just plain rude to sell games with one set of system requirements and then change the requirements so that the games don't work anymore. Which Steam have now done several times with my Macs...

I'm programming C++ & C#, Windows has Visual Studio, Windows has all the games. Why would I need another OS?

There is Windows 10 Home Premium on my game rig and Windows 7 Professional on my laptop. I have tried Windows 10 on laptop too, but that wasn't a good idea. It is old one so Windows 7 is going smoothly and much safer on it.

It is so hard to believe that 1% of gaming users have Linux. People have been saying this for years (the same ratio) and Linux has received a lot of users lately. And a lot of people that try Linux never come back to Windows.

I think there are much more than statistics say. Many users who dual boot or have another machine with windows should count as Linux users too on these statistics.

The result of this poll, for example, leaves us with almost 10% of Linux users.

I use Fedora Core 23 (linux). Using it since version 1 :)
I suppose it's a great choice for linux beginners as well. It's less problematic (comparing to ubuntu for example).
For non-linux games I use Windows 7.

I forgot to say mine. I always use Ubuntu LTS.
I don't dual boot. There's already a plenty of games that work on Linux. I don't need another OS.
