At the time, I thought spending $20+ for Total War Rome 2 was a waste of money, but thankfully Creative Assembly has patched it to work a whole lot better now. So far I've regretted buying a lot of games, including Dead Island Collection, Saints Row 2, 3, and 4, Operation Flashpoint Red River and Dragon Rising, and the Painkiller and Serious Sam complete packs (only liked one game from each pack, but did get both for cheap, fortunately). They are still in my account, though, as I've only asked to remove some really cheap (and in some cases, free) games.

Metro LL. Was really hoping to play the game because I liked Metro 2033 and when I downloaded it, I couldn't even get to the main menu because game crashes. Went to Steam page to look for some support only to find out developers pulled both games from store to cash in on the Redux versions.

That sucks, did you try checking out the community hub? I believe it should always be there.

One common issue is not having the correct version of PhysX, which crashes the game as soon as it starts (or many times during the game). This version works better with this game and with Metro 2033. If you have an older version, uninstall that and then install this one:

You can also try with the latest version found here: NVIDIA PhysX System Software

There are two: the PhysX drivers and the PhysX Legacy drivers. You are refering to the Legacy version, which is used by games released up to late 2007: http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx-9.13.0604-legacy-driver.html

My two major regrets go back to the 90's, when there really wasn't much information available when purchasing a game... at best, we had the ocasional review on (often biased) gaming magazines.
The first massive regret I had was Brutal for the Mega Drive (Genesis). The store had Brutal and Ranger-X at the same price and... I picked Brutal. The game is a dreadful excuse for a fighting game. Meanwhile, ended up playing Ranger-X a few years later and it was a rather interesting sidescroller.
Another one I also clearly remember was my first CD game. When I purchased my first CD-ROM drive for the PC, the store allowed picking one game from the "expensive" rack or two games from the "cheap" rack. The expensive one had Cannon Fodder and Ishar 3, two games that I would later find out were amazingly awesome. The cheap one had plenty of games I never heard of, with cool box artwork. And I picked two games from the cheap rack... only to find out that they were damn crappy games (a fighting game and a football game, I no longer even remember their names), with no reason whatsoever to be on a CD (both could fit on a 1.44mb floppy).
These two taught me to always get information on the games I'm buying (and to always ignore the box). With the amount of information we have nowadays, thankfully that task is a lot easier.

So far, if you can call it regrets...
SimCity - haven't played much as I would like, but bought it in bad time and every time I get back to it, can't commit to it due unsociable community in the region.
Borderlands 2 - bought it few days ago, played hour or two, and kinda regretting due so far poor gun-play; friend is telling me that it will become better and that he'll join me later because BL2 playing solo sucks.

Brink, Edge of Space, Day of Defeat: Source (Only because I can't find a single server, if they fix that then all good), Rekoil. Most games that I don't like that much have been in bundles or given away for free so I can't really complain.

Half-Life: Source. I should buy the original version since the Source version is buggy on some part.

The list is long and full of heartache that I'd rather not revisit thank you very much! :(

Global Agenda for 50 Euro.
Fallen Earth for 50 Euro.
Both went F2P 1 year after release.

Most of my summer sale purchase.
-Full Mojo Rampage: good review by players, looks great. The game is lacking of sound effects, boring gameplay. Basically you just round around circling your enemies and shoot em until they die.
-Betrayer.

Transistor, that game is atrocious IMO. I got fooled by all the praise it got, it's so bad that I'm not buying a Supergiant game in the future before trying out a demo or a pirated copy if a demo isn't available. Also I might regret getting Shadows of Mordor, haven't progressed too far in the story in this one yet, but the gameplay doesn't impress me at all and I've heard the story sucks. Those 2 are the only regrets that come to mind right now.

Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect Trilogy... definitely not my kind of game.
